Hi!

For those DIY travelers, how long was the train ride from port to St. Peter's? How frequently do the trains run? Do you need to "book it" off the boat to catch the "one and only" early morning train? (Similar to Pulpit Rock ferry in Norway) For the return, do you recommend a certain time to leave Rome? (again, is it similar to Pulpit Rock?)

Also, do you need to purchase tickets for St. Peter's? If so, can you buy tickets ahead of time? Cheers!

Check out the ports of call section on the cruisecritic boards. There are tons of specifics there regarding the train to Rome.
 

Viator had reasonably priced private transfer as well if you don't find info on the train.
