I am just starting to plan for our first trip to WDW this fall, we will be taking our dds - ages 6 and 8. The 6yo is very small for her age and will have a hard time keeping up walking if we try to take advantage of getting on the most popular rides right away.

I had this bright idea when seeing some kids on roller shoes at the mall - what if we got the girls each a pair before we went to WDW?

Has anyone ever tried these - at Disney or elsewhere - or have you seen anyone using them at Disney? Can you tell me about possible disadvantages - we have never had them before, so I don't really know how they work. :scratchin

You mean like roller skates that "pop" out of the bottom? I have never seen them used at Disney and my guess would be that they are not allowed.

Have you considered renting a stroller for the 6 yr old? It might be handy at MK and definitely Epcot.

The shoes with wheels aren't allowed in the parks. My grandson took his with him this week and my daughter said they aren't allowed to wear them in the parks. The CM will ask you not to use them she saw this happen a couple of times.

There have actually been some posts on the dis about people complaining about them in the parks.Evidently, kids are crashing into folks and zipping around.I wouldnt be surprised if Disney starts to crack down on them.

Some of the kids in my neighborhood have them. There are 2 kinds, wheelies and heelies.... wheelies have wheels in the front and back, heelies have wheels only in the back.I dont think they are very safe.I see kids falling on their butts all the time. You kind of have to lean back to roll on them.
I know youre not well informed on them, but IMHO i think its kind of inconsiderate to the other park guests who are trying to get around. After all put youself in their place... how would you feel if you were walking around the park and someones kids were zipping past you, accidentally crashing into you even?

Its just not worth it to get to an attaction 5 minutes faster.I say bring a stroller.
PS, im not trying to say youre inconsiderate at all... as you said yourself you have no experience with them so i was giving you another perspective.

We were at Knott's in CA last fall and some kids in the line in front of us were wearing Heelies. One of them almost ran over my toes a couple of times (I had sandals on) because she was standing right in front of me and was wheeling back and forth on her heel. After the 2nd time she came w/in an inch of my toes, I had to say something to her (nicely, and she did keep her distance after that).

I also think that Disney would never officially allow these because it could be a big liability for them if someone were injured while using them in the park.

Just so you know, the rental strollers are heavy duty and can hold older/bigger children quite easily. I would just play it by ear and rent one if you think your dc needs it.

hth.

I saw kids use those on our trip last month and I also saw CM tell them they weren't allowed in "wheelie" mode. The kids I saw were very talented while rolling but I would guess it takes a lot of practice. Lots to roll into without experience, plus all the scraped knees! My suggestion would be to rent a stroller. Disney strollers are heavy duty enough for a 6 yo and I saw plenty of older kids in strollers.

Thank you for all the replies - shoot! I guess my bright idea wasn't so bright after all! :(

Don't worry anyone - I didn't take any offense - I asked because I had no experience and figured there would be someone out there who did! :thumbsup2

Hi: Our first time in Disney my youngest was 5 years old and I brought my umbrella stroller with me that folds very easily. I was able to run for buses and then whip it out going into the parks and he loved it. He would never have been able to keep up with all of us(10 of us) if we didn't have his stroller. And the umbrella stroller is compact so it never got in the way on the crowded buses or anywhere. Good luck. Enjoy your first trip to Disney! The first trip is soooo magical!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

No way would I let my little "graceful angel" loose in those things on the general public :scared: .... OMG the damage would be catastrophic... I have a mental picture of my little princess leaving a path of distruction in her wake.
I can barely make her pay attention to where she is walking in regular shoes....

Now I could where those heelies would be useful in WS getting from Mexico and the XXX to Germany for a lager.... hmmmm :goodvibes
