Roller Coasters or Simulators - Who's With Me?

From what I've read, it seems like most people who have any sort of motion sickness issue with rides can generally handle some roller coasters but not simulators. I'm the complete opposite -- I can handle simulators but not roller coasters. Is anyone else similar to me?

No, I am betting you are in the minority. I am definitely one of those who can handle roller coasters just fine, but not simulators.

I don't like all coasters, but I can do simulators:yay: On a coaster, I know it's real. On a simulator, if it's really bothering me, I can look off to the side or close my eyes, and the motion goes away or becomes very mild. I did this on the Simpsons at Universal last year. It has a huge simulated drop. I hate drops, but if I looked to the side or behind me at the ride vehicle or closed my eyes. I was fine. I am slowly building up to keeping my eyes on the drop the entire length of it now. I am going to try Splash and Space Mountain next week. 7DMT and BMTRR finally quit bothering me last trip. I attribute it to being desensitized by Forbidden Journey after riding it 4 times.

I can handle simulators because I know it's in my head and that the ride vehicle really isn't moving that much. I can't speak to the simulators at Universal but Star Tours doesn't bother me at all. I can't do roller coasters because the drops are actually happening.

I prefer rollercoasters. I was fine all day going on rides at Epcot and Hollywood Studios but the second I set foot on Star Tours or Mission: Space I felt like I needed a barf bag.

I think that's the problem I have with Forbidden Journey at Universal Studios - it's not quite a rollercoaster or simulator, but the way it shakes you around and flips you on your back, it makes me SO sick. I've heard the ride has shut down in the past because of someone getting sick and it getting all over the screens. Add "working at/cleaning up Forbidden Journey" to the list of jobs I would NOT want.

I'll be going to Universal for the first time ever this trip. I've heard that Forbidden Journey is rough so even though I tend to like simulator rides I plan to stay away from that one.

I can handle simulators but not the roller coasters. I am talking my self into 7DMT next trip.

Yes! I have never been brave enough to try Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I always say that I'm going to watch it before I try it and then I stand near the big drop and freak myself out. I know people say that the drop isn't bad but it looks steep and intense to a non-coaster person.

I can do (most) coasters, but I discovered on our trip to UO last year that some simulators are just too much. Forbidden Journey and Simpsons, I'm looking at you!

I can handle simulators. I don't get nausea problems on roller coasters, but I do get head and neck pain on some of them. The head pain is from striking poorly padded head rests.

Six Flags has come out with adding a simulator experience on a rollercoaster,I have a feeling my stomach might have a problem with this:

It's not that terrible. I had a hard time with BMTRR and 7DMT summer 2014. Last March we did Universal for the first time. You do move around on FB but not as bad as a coaster. If you close your eyes when you feel overwhelmed, it becomes pretty tame. I would give it a try. I was thinking of skipping, but I am glad that I didn't. We ended up riding it 4 times that trip. Don't go on an empty or full stomach. If you do decide to skip it, see if they will let you do the castle tour, which lets you see the highly themed, very cool queue. I found that BMTRR and 7DMT last March were easy after doing FB and Simpsons.

Simulators are much worse for me.
I need to be able to see what is coming to get ready for it.
Dark coasters are worse than the ones in the light.....but I can still compensate for them

Seriously? It is milder than some kiddie coasters I've been on.

I love simulators and do not ride coasters. That has nothing to do with getting sick though. I'm just scared of them. I don't like heights and I hate falling.

I'm with you. I hate BTMRR! So jerky. I did ride Seven Dwarves last summer. I did not like those drops and I KNOW it's a freakin kids coaster. Doesn't mean I have to like it. It was not bad enough that I won't ride it with my family this summer, but you won't catch me riding it twice or ever waiting to ride it. :)
