When I ride a roller coaster I get a queasy feeling in my stomach and a mild headache that hangs on for a while. I want to be able to ride with my grandkids but it's no fun to feel like that so I have stopped riding. Anyone else have that problem and have you found anything that helps?

Last trip I used a motion sickness patch. I got an Rx from the my doctor. It worked perfectly. I rode everything I wanted to with no nausea or headache.

Try some of the standard things that work for motion sickness. Ginger is a natural thing that works for some people. Or, an over the counter medication like Bonine or Dramamine. Bonine works pretty well for me.

Have you tried a dose of dramamine and ibuprofin?

Do you get motion sick esily or just on coasters? Is it worse or better if you close your eyes or focus on the train and not the surroundings?

The headache could be from your tension or from being rattled around, which would vary depending on the coaster. I always judge which is better for my head - settle back into the head rest, or hold it up - I do whichever is less physical stress on my head.

Do you remember the name of the motion sickness patch.

Thanks to everyone for replies. Keep the ideas coming.

I have been sea sick on a boat but other then that only on roller coasters.

I would suggest you get a patch or dramamine, and focus your eyes on the roller coaster itself right in front of you. Hope it gets better. I used to be able to ride coasters over and over but find I cannot do this more than a few times a day now as I get into my 50s!

I highly recommend ginger. It comes in capsules in the vitamin section. Take one or two after a light meal (I take one to start as it sometimes gives me a slight warm feeling in my stomach, usually on an empty stomach). There's no drowsiness or medicinal effects, it's all natural. I take it about 1/2 to one hour before activity or flying on planes. It lasts for a few hours, if you feel you need another one, take a second one later in the day if you're still doing the activities. I haven't taken Dramamine in years. Never tried Bonine.

I have also used the motion sickness patch and it's worked great. I don't know the name of it, there might only be one. I just asked my doctor for the motion sickness patch.

Also, make sure that you have something in your stomach (but not too much!) when you ride. I know that I feel worse if I haven't eaten in awhile or if I haven't had enough to eat.

For me, screaming makes my headache worse. I think it tenses all the muscles in my head and the vibration of the rollercoaster translates into immediate headache and nausea. If I feel the need to verbalize, I go with a "YAAYYY!" or a low "Ahhhhhh" and make sure that I don't scrunch my face or tense my muscles.

I also do breathing to combat the nausea. Breathe in up a hill and out down the hill.

GOOD LUCK!!

You could try SeaBands. My wife uses them for car sickness and did use them for morning sickness at one point. I don't know how they work, but they work for her. Since you are probably already wearing a MagicBand, adding Seabands probably wouldn't be a big deal.

The motion sickness patch is called Scopolamine or Transderm Scop. Some side effects include dry mouth, possibly blurred vision, lightheadedness. Didn't care for it.

I recently read a thread on here about people starting to have issues once they hit 40. I am now over 40 and it was making me nervous. I bought a product called Motion ease, you put a couple of drops behind your ear. There were warnings that initially the smell was not that great but once on the scent diminishes quickly. I am going to bring that with me and probably take a Tylenol before heading to the parks (I get a headaches sometimes but never sure if that is from the heat/excitement or the actual riding).

I just had a similar issue for the first time last week. Took chewable Dramamine and had a much better time the next day. Good Luck!

I was also going to suggest Seabands. I believe it balances the equilibrium in the inner ear. Works great for me. You can get them at CVS, etc.

Love ginger capsules. They are great for motion sickness and queasy stomachs. Also a great anti-inflammatory. I take it for my arthritis along with turmeric. Can't believe how great my joints and tummy feel.

It's a prescription patch called a Scopolomine Transdermal patch. You need a doctor's prescription, I think.

I used the Transderm on my last airplane trip. I found I could read on an airplane without getting sick for the first time ever, but it did such weird things to my vision I had a hard time with the reading anyway. :)

Another vote for SeaBands. It has a "button" on it that presses on a nerve that transmits nausea sensations. I like that I can take it off, so nothing has to wear off. Be sure to read the instructions. The button has to be in the right spot to work.

I suggest you use a spinning office chair and test out a few of these options. You definitely don't want your fist time taking medication to be at Disney.
