Roll call for 10/29/09 3 night Bahamian - General chit chat

Now the groups are even again, if everyone else is in agreement, I would like to propose that we don't now add anyone else to the lists. From a personal point of view, I am making a lot of my gifts and there is going to come a point where I literally don't have time to make any more. We did originally say we were going to close the list mid August anyway so perhaps now is as good a time as any. That way we all know where we are and exactly how many we are buying/making for. What does everyone else reckon?

I agree. I'm making some of my gifts too, so this sounds good.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

In keeping with the HalloWonder theme, I've used one of the graphics made and posted by runskyhy (thanks!) to create some DIS group merchandise. A link to the 'store' can be found below. There is no profit for me in this merchandise, but am thinking that the four of us will definitely get t-shirts to wear at embarkation and maybe something else fun.

hehe love the doggie shirt! I think Denver should get it and be our mascot! lol

My wife and I have been talking about something and I would like the opinion of those of you that have sailed before. We understand that it is customary to tip the ship's crew on the last day. But how much should we tip and how do we go about giving it to them? I don't want to give to much or to little.

That is a great ??? I would also love answers from others ..... they have a tip sheet they send out on the last night and it is a set tip ammount for each thing like your wait staff and room person etc. I have only sailed 2x before and when we sailed Alaska we took an envlope and wrote our room ladys name on it and put in an extra 20 ( for the 7 night cruise plus what we paid in the one the ship gives you ) we did tip out waiter that we had gotten 5 of the 5 nights as well we gave him an extra 10 and his helper 10 we just handed it to him in cash the last night we ate dinner.
on my disney cruise i got moved to a different room the second night so i never really had the same room guy for that long so i didnt do anything .... i did however tip our waiter and assistant an extra 10 each plus what disney figured in .... i dont know what gratuitys are right now on the ship but i can find out for everyone so stay tuned !!!!

Also denver would like the shirt but he cant wear it because of the harness and also most doggie shirts are not big enough even if they are XL - he is more of a bandanna guy ! you will usually see him crusing the ship with some themed one for the day - snoopy/fall leaves scooby doo /halloween and many many more i have 2 large storage boxes FULL of them we love them !!!! he has a fat neck so i make most myself ...again buying them they usually are not big enough , but sometimes they are . He fits into all regular bandannas just not the ones made for doggies .... i must get creative soon and start working on my FE and some more Denver Bandannas with the graphics from this cruise ALSO
i know im lame but HOW do you all do the magnets? do you get stickey magnetic paper ? any links or tips would be great i dont want a naked door this time :dance3:

here is what i found online hope it helps

Disney Cruise Gratuities Posted on July 29th

When booking your Disney Cruise, many things are included in the price. All of your food and non-alcoholic drinks, all the kids club activities, and all adult activities and shows are included. The items not included are usually outlined by your travel agent of Disney Cruise. Airfare, airport transfers and trip insurance are usually not included, but are an options that are given you with prices, you can take them or leave them, depending on your plans.

One item that is rarely included, and even less understood is gratuities. On board the ship, there are several people you will become very familiar with, your stateroom steward and your waiter and assistant waiter. Your stateroom steward will take care of your room night and day, he makes sure you have everything you need and that your stateroom is put back together each day. Your waiter and assistant waiter follow you around to each new restaurant each night, and you will get to know them quickly. For these people, as well as the head waiter, much of their salary is based on gratuities from you.

The night before you debark the ship, your steward will place a sheet and a few envelopes in your room with suggested tip amounts for the four people who have served you while on the cruise. The easiest way to pay the gratuities is to go to the guest services desk in the lobby of the ship, and have the gratuities amounts added to your room bill. They will then give you vouchers to put in the envelopes to give to the cast members. You can alternatively put cash in the envelopes. If your service has been great, feel free to add a bit in there. One thing I have done in the past, if the service has been great, is that I have included pre-paid calling cards in the envelopes. Most of the employees on board are from outside the US, and many have families (wife and kids) at home that they support. A pre-paid phone card allows them to call home when at port, and those seem to be more appreciated than equivalent cash for some reason.

Rather than explaining who gets what for each type of cruise, the easiest way to figure out what your gratuities will be is to figure that you will need to pay $11 per person per night of your cruise. So, if you are on a 4 night Disney Cruise, with 2 people, you will be looking at about $88 total for gratuities.

So, while planning your Disney Cruise, make sure you take into account your gratuities on board. If you wish, you can ask your travel agent or the Disney Cruise Line, and you can pay your gratuities in advance as part of your final payment if you wish.

On board, there are a few other tips you will have to pay. For any room service, while the food and drinks are included in the cost of the cruise, you should tip the waiter that brings the food to your stateroom. Also, any spa treatments that you have done, please remember to tip the employee. If you choose to dine at the adult only restaurant, Palo, there will be a $10 fee per person to eat there, and that is basically the tip for your waiter. Feel free to tip him/her extra if you get great service, but an extra tip is not required.

Cari for my magnets I use the following:

  • card stock paper (you can find it at walmart or office depot)
  • self laminating sheets (available also at walmart or office depot)
  • Self adhesive magnetic strips (same places as above or you can recycle free magnets you get at stores, those paper thin ones and glue them to the laminated signs, even though i haven't tried this trick yet)

I print out the designs onto the paper (you can use regular paper too since it gets laminated anyway, but I find card stock is easier for me to deal with on the laminating process), then cut it to the shape and size I want, laminate according to instructions on the self-laminating sheet box, and then cut out the excess of the laminate leaving some space around the design so I won't break the seal.

I stick a magnet on the back and voila! done and ready to go! :thumbsup2

What a great idea and I love the shirts. However, I wondered if it was possible to get the v-neck shirt in a smaller size (thanks to WW, it appoears that the plus size shirt is likely to be far too large for me). Also, can you put the graphic anywhere other than right in the centre of the shirt (I am thinking on the left chest area (and smaller), like with the golf shirt), if that makes sense.

Are there any smaller ones for kids. I definitely like the idea of matching shirts for embarkation day and Natalie and I would definitely wear them even if the men (and kids) are likely to balk at the idea.

So for 4 people on a 3 night cruise the minimum would be about $132. Thanks Cary.

Unfortunately the V-neck shirt is only available in the plus-size. Also - the shop lets me pick where to put the logo on some items but not all. It does let me choose for the t-shirts (front center, front left chest, or back center), but it only lets me pick one. I can't have one v-neck tshirt with the logo on the front center and another one with the logo on the front left chest, I only get one v-neck plus size tshirt option :sad1:

As far as kids sizes go - there is a Kids Clothing section further down the page with Kids t-shirts, Toddler t-shirts, and Infant bodysuits - as well as a couple sweatshirt options.

Hope this helps - sorry that the options are limited. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Who's heading to Alaska with me summer 2011?!?!? :cool1:

Not me, I'm afraid - isn't Alaska cold ;)

I'm gutted about the repo being 6th Jan, though. I was really hoping it might be March/April time and DH had more or less agreed that we could do it but there's no way we can swing it in January :sad2:

Cari,
for my magnets I used a roll of self adheasive magnet that I bought at Michaels crafts that's the only store where I have seen the rolls of it. Then I printed out the pictures using my printer on photo paper so it would be a nicer quality picture. Then I just stuck it to the magnet sheet and cut it out. Really easy and it turned out nice. The laminating sounds good too! I just finished my FE's yeah :cool1: one less thing to do!

As far as magnets go, I use printable magnetic paper. I either buy it on ebay or from the teacher supply store. It is a probably about the same price as the cardstock, laminating pouches and adhesive magnetic tape, but I'm not sure - I just know that it is simpler.

TIPS - we prepay our tips when we book then we don't have to hold out money until the end of the cruise, but we always being extra money since CM's tend to outdo themselves and we feel that the "reccomended amount" is not enough. I think you can also do this at guest services once you board.

Shirts w/ logo - those were really cute! I am taking the design to my embroider and she can digitize the image to be sewn onto most anything. I think I'm going to have treat bags for trick or treat made for my boys. I wish I could make them for all the kiddos in our group.

I'm glad that we are getting close enough to begin talking about the FUN stufff!:cool1:

Great job on the store! It turned out great :thumbsup2!

Who's heading to Alaska with me summer 2011?!?!? :cool1:

I wish! I think that's for another year, DH and I really would love to go on the Dream after our VR, but putting up a party at WDW comes with a hefty price tag so we will see if we can even swing that after all is said and done.

It sounds wonderful though, the repo cruise going to Alaska would be so much fun, I always wanted to visit San Fran!

I gotta try that printable magnetic paper sometime, and the embroidered bags sound so cool! I am sure they will be fantastic! :thumbsup2

Yay! It's the weekend and our cruise is inching closer!!!
Just bought tickets for Beauty and the Beast the Musical for a presentation in town. I managed to snag floor seats, never had those before, so I am psyched!

The only downside... it isn't coming to town until April 2010 :rotfl:

thanks for all the tips on magnets everyone !!!

WE R SO DOWN FOR ALASKA 2011 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are planning on doing Alaska. So that finally ends any chance of a cruise next year. Will try to do the reservation on the 21st for the inaugural.

Hope everybody has a great week.

BobandLee
you can google designer duds for dogs . She is a neat lady she made Denver the tie just for the cruise with the mickey fabric ... she usually dosent carry that one but she has others too ..... she has cancer now so i dont know how much shes doing but if you order from her tell her i sent you tell her i have to dog who she did the disney tie for !

Angie,
you have nothing to worry about on the flight. The trip from Va to Orlando is a really short one, perfect for your first time! Just think, if my kids can do from MD to Hawaii (10 hours total) then you can do a couple of hours to Florida. Do you have a nonstop flight? That makes it so much nicer if you do. I would suggest you bring an Ipod with your favorite music on it to help you relax. If that doesn't help maybe bring your disney spreadsheet and re-plan your visit. :rotfl:

We are flying to Charlotte and then to Orlando. Tri Cities does not have a direct US Air flight to Orlando. We are using my DH air miles for mine and Ashley tickets. I will bring my IPOD for sure! Thanks for the advice!
