Ok, so we do not have cable. We have Hulu plus and Netflix. Every TV we use already has a device connected to it to stream the Hulu and Netflix (wii, playstation, bluray player) What, if any, use would I have in buying a ROKU? Does it do anything other than stream paid services like Hulu and Netflix to your tv?

The Roku may offer channels your other streaming devices do not. You can check roku.com and find out.

The only thing it would add, in you're case, is news. Roku offers CNN International, BBC World News, Al-Jazeera, NHK (Hong Kong news in English) and Russia Today (in English). If you have Amazon Prime, it will stream that (but I recommend not getting Prime just for that!) and it has a 'channel' for really old movies. That's pretty much it.

roku does have a ton of channels but most of them really don't offer anything really good. They do have an mlb channel and some clips for nbc/cnbc but you don't get full newscast.

But the MLB pass is a pay one and usually runs around $130 for the season.

We don't like streaming through the Wii, the quality is quite poor (480p) Roku has the 1080p quality if you purchase that device. Otherwise, you really don't need one.

We used to stream Netflix over our XBox and it was SO SLOW. It took so long to load a show...

My husband got me the Roku for Christmas last year and I wasn't too jazzed about it to begin with because we already had Netflix streaming on the XBox. However, my opinion changed when the shows loaded and started playing in 2-3 seconds vs. 2-3 minutes.

Other than Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix, most of the channels are junk.

There is a Fox News channel that says it plays Fox News during the day, but it's some weird internet version of the channel.

The one channel my husband and I do enjoy is the LifeChurch TV channel. We are inbetween churches right now, so it's nice to turn on the sermons from this church every week.
