Rogue One catch all thread

Chicagoland/midwest has -15deg feels like temp now and down to -20deg actual temp this weekend so I am going to guess that most of the ticket sales are going to be tempered just because of the temps.

Last year this time it was only jacket and hat weather.

I count the official tally of "good" Star Wars films currently at 3.5...

I give Abrams half credit, ESB is legendary now, ANH looks like much better since 1999...and Jedi looks 10x the quality it did in 1983. Still better action than most that's come since...and deeper character story for the skywalkers

Despecialized versions are better.

I'm in the Milwaukee area, same thing plus a major winter storm bringing 9-11 inches of snow this Friday and Saturday.

I'm not happy. I live in Texas and my showing starts at 7. Shouldn't it be able to start at 6 to coincide with east coast??

Does the west coast have to wait until 7 their time as well?

No doubt...luckily I have the one (circa 2005) DVD set with the cuts...

Hopefully lucas becomes incapacitated and whatever schills that run disney will then release a really good cleanup of those...

...you know...the ones that were "destroyed"

I was watching empire the other day on tnt and the emperor scene is HORRID!!! It wasn't broke

The escape from cloud city was the best music/action sequence maybe in a movie ever...it wasn't broke...now it is.

You should be happy because you were the second best team in the big ten...

But I think you might be able to get through that extra hour, no?

I think the weather will affect who shows up...NOT sales. Those tickets are already sold...though disillusioned, the hundreds of millions of Star Wars fans in the US alone could not resist opening night tickets:chewy:

I agree. Luckily I'm going tonight before the snow. I would probably go even during the storm.

Fandango will refund any ticket preshow...you just have to ask...

I doubt people will not seek refunds at $20/seat...

It's just snow, it's not like you are in the southern half of the country that isn't accustomed to dealing with it. You have snow tires right?

9-11 inches is much different than a few inches. I have 4 wheel drive and good tires but not everyone does.

My own theory is that the "special editions" were intended to change as many frames of the movies as possible, even the parts that weren't broke, in order to seize revenues/royalties from whoever (presumable 20th Century Fox) was getting paid the lion's share from each showing/sale of the original editions.

"This isn't your father's Star Wars" means that Lucas deliberately ruined his own legacy as an artist in order to grab even more cash. And Disney which has no artistic legacy at all when it comes to Star Wars is even less likely to give away its precious revenues by restoring and marketing the original versions.

Imagine if Rembrandt's art studio received major backing from a corporation in return for a profit split ... but he found that he only needed to buy some tubes of glitzy neon paint at the craft store and scribble all over the old paintings, slap a new copyright on them and "tah-dah".

On the other hand, it is well known that Lucas regarded Hollywood films not as Rembrandt paintings, but as "American Graffiti" which in that case means, what the hey, go ahead and spraypaint meaningless tags all over your previous graffiti.

It doesn't square with him trying to endow a "Star Wars Museum of Narrative Art" ... but at least he has an out.

No...they'll go if it means needing an airlift from the Soviet army...

But I have to ask: is $20 a lot of money these days ;)

That's 1/6 a ticket to after hours magic...or roughly 30 minute of waiting for mine train...

Dude, don't bring me down today...

If the movie blows I'll read This tomorrow and get all riled up with you ;)

Last year my girls finally showed interest in Star Wars (I guess they got bit by the TFA bug).

I have VHS of ep IV V VI, but those things are so worn, and we don't have a VHS player.

So anyway, I learned of the despecialized editions and downloaded them.... WOW, pretty impressive work.

So we did machete order + ep I and then all three of us saw TFA opening night at Smithsonian IMAX.
I think they are fans for life now.

There have been updates to the despecialized versions since last year (ANH is 2.7 and ROJ is 2.5) I got ROJ 2.5 yesterday and so far it is much better than 1.0 that we watched last year.
