Rogue One catch all thread

Chicagoland/midwest has -15deg feels like temp now and down to -20deg actual temp this weekend so I am going to guess that most of the ticket sales are going to be tempered just because of the temps.

Last year this time it was only jacket and hat weather.

I'm in the Milwaukee area, same thing plus a major winter storm bringing 9-11 inches of snow this Friday and Saturday.

Heh, casual fans. *ducks*

Me: I'm going to see the new Star Wars!

Sane Person: Your car will freeze before you hit the first marker!

Me: Then I'll see you in Hell!

No...they'll go if it means needing an airlift from the Soviet army...

But I have to ask: is $20 a lot of money these days ;)

That's 1/6 a ticket to after hours magic...or roughly 30 minute of waiting for mine train...

It's not even 1/2 a dessert party! :cake:

Was it "deep"?
No

Was it "flawed"?
Yes

But...but...even though they didn't try to make it painstakingly match the 1980 look of the originals...they still succeeded.

100% on gareth Edwards...what the movie showed was that he is a real
Star Wars fan...and a real fan would make you want to go grab a toy or run into the backyard and re-enact it...and that's what this will do.

For those worrying about kids...it's not a happy ending type story...at all...but I didn't find it to be a "gritty war movie" either...it's depends on the kid if they will find it thrilling or downing.

Well, I saw it.

I loved it. Teared up a few times.

Not really sure if I'd take kids younger than 10. Maybe not even younger than 13. But I don't have kids so I guess judge your own kid's maturity level.

Best part...it was it's own movie. There were several call backs and winks at the audience, but I didn't mind any of them.

The beginning was so jarring for a SW movie. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

One of the better parts about it was how well it fit into A New Hope. Most flaws I've heard people argue about a New Hope over the years...this movie fixed a lot of them. There were a lot of 'ooooh, I see, that makes sense' moments.

And geez...I don't know how they did the part at the end. That was some craziness.

Can't wait to see it again.

There was a lot of that "craziness" you speak of...like a lot...I knew it was coming and still wasn't prepared for it.

But I thought it did a great job of setting up the real trilogy without going too far techie or off course...

And the critics who panned it are frankly not in the right element to watch Star Wars...the script wasn't that bad...the acting wasn't terrible...and the characters were not "hollow"...even if a little bit too much was going on.

It was Star Wars...pure and unfiltered...no story will ever have the elements of empire strikes back...we can all accept that...

But this feels like the 3rd best one to me...(empire and Jedi...just to be clear)

Agreed 100%. I didn't find it to be heavy war like at least not much more than any other star wars film. I had plenty of kids in my theater. Lots of Easter eggs folks this is for the star Wars fans for sure.

Right there with you except I think 10-13 would handle it well. I was only a 10-13 year old 5-6 years ago. There were kids as young as 5-6 in my theater and they didn't seem scared or upset.

No I don't understand what critics could pan about it. Unless they want to be nitpicky. Which I guess they usually do.

Well with Empire I think it helped that we already knew the characters, so they had already given us all their surface traits in a New Hope so Empire could delve deep into all of them. That wasn't the case with this one, they needed to give us a broad idea of the characters, which there were quite a few, and then still get all the action and story in.

Yeah I'm not really good at judging what kids can handle.

That battle at the end though...wow I enjoyed that. When we saw a few of the characters show up...almost tears then. Hah, I'm trying to be very vague yet still discuss it.

Then at the very end of the battle...it's just like ****.

My major complaint (and i saw this reported prior)...is that one character didn't move/walk quite right...something was a little "off" there. I'm sure we'lol discuss that down the road ;)

I might know what you are talking about...or I might be making it up. Do we have spoiler type things in this forum?

I'll post this in bold so people know. If you want to discuss aspects of the movie please use the spoiler tag. It is an option three buttons over from the emoji button that looks like a page with a cursor at the bottom.

Now that I know how to use the spoiler tag...

So I kept myself very spoiler free. I figured the movie would end with someone handing Leia the plans, but we'd only see her back. So when we saw Carrie Fisher's face I was shocked...still am. And that ending...having Vader just mow down all those Rebel soldiers really reminded us that he is a villain. That was no Kylo Ren throwing a tantrum.

I was so shocked and happy to have Red Leader and Gold Leader show up!!! And poor Red Five. As soon as you heard his call sign it was like ugh, clear the way for Luke. It all makes so much sense now for a New Hope. I always kind of wondered why Luke got assigned an x wing. I mean...yeah Leia probably mentioned he was force sensitive but giving him an xwing?! I guess it was cause most of their pilots got wiped out at Sarif. Most likely had more ships than pilots.

The Tarkin actor and makeup was really good.

I'm glad that C3PO and R2 got the cameo, this way they've still been in all the movies.

I was super excited for the Rebels cartoon shout out. When their pleas to the Rebellion to go get the plans were turned down, you can hear someone paging General Syndulla, who I have to assume is Hera.

But that ending though...on the car trip to the theater I said I'd be surprised if more than one, two tops, of the crew survived. I never thought they'd wipe everyone out. As soon as the robot went I was like oh no, here it all comes.

I also appreciate that they left it up in the air if the one guy was force sensitive or not.

And ugh, how much of a tease was the whole thing with the Jedi temple and the old abandoned statues in the desert.

completely agree! The Leia sighting was like a wow moment for me. Vader is the best definitely much better than his grandson. I loved the cameo from C3PO and R2. So many good things and great connections to a new hope and more. Definitely a Star Wars fans movie.
