Rogers Data Roaming Options

Rogers has two add-on options for data roaming in the U.S. One seems to be clearly better than the other and I'm wondering if anyone can see something I'm missing as to why anyone would chose the other option.

The options are:
US Data travel pack: $30 to pre-purchase 10Mb of data, plus $3/Mb for anything over that or $50 for 25Mb and $2/Mb for more . Minutes are good for 1 month after the date of purchase
US Data add-on: $10/month fee (can be put on account for just one month) which gets you $1/Mb for as much usage as you want.

I can't see any scenario where the add-on wouldn't be the best option. Anyone else see anything I'm missing?

I don't have any good advice for you. It does seem like there is something odd about the option but I dont know what to tell you. It seems the folks at Rogers give you a different answer every time you call so I dont even that calling them for clarification would work.

I absolutely hate Rogers. I have made some changes with them in the past and they've always royal screwed up my plans. Telus was so much easier to deal with, with plan options(going back when my plan expires).

The time I did really enjoy them and was happy with them was when I flew down to Europe. It cost me next to nothing to have my cell on roaming to receive and dial phone calls. They were great from that point of view.

Good luck with your plan change, be VERY careful tho you get the right information before you add, change or remove anything from your plan.

Do you absolutely need data in the US?

You can turn off data roaming.

If you are accustomed to always being connected it's tough to go cold turkey.

The $10 option plus $1 a MB sounds like your best bet if they will let you use it for just a month.

I was just thinking about this and came to the boards to see if anyone knew the answer.

I hate to call Rogers to ask them...... ughhhhh.

I know I need data, I can honestly say I would be lost without it. I can go without calling anyone from my iphone, but I need to use the data!

I'm going to call them to ask about my up coming trip. I know they had recent changes for data plans, so I'll ask and let you know what they say. As posted above tho, calling them to get info always worries me because they are so unknowledgeable about their own services.

I ended up calling and added the $10 + $1/M data plan. They had to go searching for it but they found it eventually and added it. They confirmed that it can be added for just one month. They put a note on my account to take it off after one month but suggested I call back when I'm back just to make sure it does get taken off. Seemed like a lot better deal than the other option.

I know I hate calling them as well! I usually know more about the plans than they do.....

I am going to call and add this as well.

And yes, your best bet is to call after your trip, because you know they won't remove it.... lol.

Good luck! Everytime I call Rogers they seem to screw up our phone plans somehow.. I think it's been 3 bills in a row nearly I've had to call them to fix an error on my plan... it is getting tiresome.

Anyways I can't help you with the roaming... we have our phones unlocked and just slip in our TMobile cards in and go that route.

I've got an unlocked first generation iphone and I didn't even think about getting a US sim. Maybe a better idea for me actually!

4/5 times we've added the US plan they've screwed it up & what a pain to call them & be on the phone for about an hour explaining that you DID purchase the plan, it had not been applied or not correctly. Last week during the most recent go round the customer service woman said, We do NOT recommend you use your Rogers phone in the states :rotfl2: I said you have got to be kidding me!

If you add on any plan, get the rep's name, id # write down the plan added, date added, etc. I write all this on the actual bill & ask for an email receipt too. Truly it should not be so hard! DH swears we are going to switch to Bell but are they any better? :scared:

Thanks for letting me vent :rotfl:
