Given that it’s the same flight time from Portland to Orlando as it is to Honolulu, and 3x the time as it is to fly to John Wayne, I really need the airlines to help me out with some reasonable non-stop prices.
Yeah it's the flights that are very hard for us currently. Finding a decent price NS flight is very hard to do. Not nearly as easy as it used to be. The one small carrier we love flys to MCO but gives us a 4.5 hour layover in SNA.. so at that point it doesn't make any sense to then go WDW. I have hopes better flights will come in 2025

Isn’t this a very conservative assumption? Granted, for a very small contract it might not be worth it to try to get the money back but for a larger contract? You might need to wait a year or two, though.

Based on my experience the last time I did this it was a huge pain, cost money hiring an accountant, took forever and made no sense what they actually ended up refunding me. So now I just assume I'll get nothing back and if I do it is a bonus. The with holding tax is one of the main reasons I'm more of a buy and hold type owner.

I suppose living in the OC does have some benefits. We're 15 minutes from DL, HNL is a 5.5 hour flight west, and MCO is 5.0 hours east. We fly out of LAX and not John Wayne as the flights are more frequent, we enjoy having lounge access, and we always have enough bodies to use carpool lanes.

And getting a NS from LAX Im sure is super easy and affordable too
It is. I really won't fly anything but Delta for pleasure and most business (will fly SW for business occasionally if it's an intra-state flight up to SAC or the Bay Area), so having access to the airline hub definitely increases flight selection.

Racking up business miles to use for pleasure trips adds to the equation. We are headed to WDW in 3 weeks (I know, it's gonna be hot, but we get hot here and at least it isn't too muggy) and I'm using miles to pay for two tickets and a companion pass for the third. Total cost: $72.

Same here! Makes very little sense to actually apply for a withholding certificate unless the total sale price is at least $15k (especially when you have 2 owners like me… more fees oh yay!). Most of my contracts are small (50-100) so I’ll just have to hold those to the bitter end unless I want to suck up a 25% on sale once you include broker fees.

Fellow LAX and DL traveler. Has Delta started using algorithmic pricing to gouge you for Aulani trips yet? We are trying to buy our flights to HNL (during Christmas break) and DL keeps quoting prices that are 2-3x all the other airlines. 😭

I tend to just sit in the shadows of the board an enjoy reading the comments. But figured I’d post about my experiences with some contracts. When PVB towers were still questionable to add on the current contracts, buying in with the potential of one bedrooms was something we wanted to take a gamble on. First contract:

Awd_gt---$149-$15549-100-PVB-Feb-0/23, 100/24, 100/25, 100/26- sent 4/23, taken 5/2

I figured I would try again with a stripped contract as I have a couple others, but nervous the ROFR feeding frenzy would continue. Mostly because the price trend was skyrocketing recently for buybacks, compared to what I was submitting. Second contract went through today!

Awd_gt---$145-$29786-200-PVB-Feb-0/23, 0/24, 0/25, 200/26- sent 5/15, passed 6/7

Just curious. Is it common to get news over the weekend that you've passed ROFR? Or is that rare? Does it happen at all?

Update, I had put in an offer for a similar 200 point contract with Fidelity.

This was rejected. Just had an email saying that seller accepted $40pp.

So I think Im going to cancel the above and do the $40pp deal!
If the other contract isnt Fidelity and the seller on the Fidelity isnt paying fees remember that the $225 they charge equates to $1.13pp on a 200 point contract. Still cheaper but i think people forget fidelity has this fee that no one else has that I am aware of.

Other is DVCRM - but I went back to Fidelity and said seller to say $225 fee......

America thanks you for your donations to our general fund.

I haven’t heard of them coming through on weekends and assumed they worked typical business hours. That said, others on here have far more experience than me!

And the only time I have ever had issues with DVC contracts is with Fidelity listed contracts…..

Dunno. I just looked and a round-trip ticket, 12/24-12/31, main cabin versus main cabin comes up with $861 for Delta, $592 for American, $721 for United, and $787 for Hawaiian. All LAX to HNL, all 12/24 to 12/31, main cabin non-refundable (to find the cheapest seats).

I had to use those dates because they were the only travel dates when there were main cabin, non-refundable fares available on all four airlines, but they are smack-dab in the middle of Christmas break and include Christmas day.

I wouldn't fly American if they gave it to me for free (and they would, because I have had over 100,000 AA miles sitting in my account for over 3 years because I won't fly with them (I got the points through a CC bonus offer that was ridiculously good but I hadn't flown with them for a while, flew once, and said "nope, not again").
