I’m not in the market for new points and so have not been following the exact details of the incentives, but I thought I would provide a thought process of why someone might want to think about having a mix of both if the number of points and incentives align.Interesting way of looking at it. I am looking at resale then direct as a member add on purchase....I would have to do 200 points at $165 at AK on current member promo but that means only an $11,000 difference in purchase price (assuming $110/pt resale purchase)....over 34 years. So, broken out that way it is not that big a difference, ~325/yr extra cost...the dues are dues regardless of how the points are acquired. So while I wasn't doing the math that way it does suggest I am not too crazy....Thanks!
I started off guns blazing that direct was for suckers who couldn’t see past the pixie dust, but have since been educated by other members and have acquired more personal experience with both.
I think your strategy of buying resale first and then direct at the “member add on” price is a very smart way to go IF you are going to go hybrid.
