Pretty bummed I have a contract in ROFR and it stinks to have entered into it with one set of expectations and to have them changed mid flight. I would still be considering purchasing even with this change but it certainly change the value proposition.

i hear you. my broker confirmed we should be good to go yesterday....i just emailed him and let him know what i've been hearing/reading and to get his thoughts...which i'm sure will be what everyone is saying today. how sad....

kinda makes the wait even longer? i'm only day 8 into the rofr process....sigh.....
You can check your contract... You may have the right to cancel the sale within the first 10 days. My contract gives me a 10 day window from the date signed. At this price ($78.00/point VWL), we're going for it.

I think it is really crummy of them to do this to you guys and everyone else in ROFR / the closing process. It would have been a goodwill gesture of them to include contracts under review as they originally claimed, and how much would that have harmed their bottom line? But this is just bad optics all around, ESPECIALLY since they went ahead and double talked themselves into a different set of rules today. I am really not impressed.

Agreed, pangyal. It's still a business - all in all, but their actions fall short of what one would expect from a business that looks to build on peoples' social and emotional needs. These past couple of days have left us with a much different Disney Experience than any one of us would have ever expected.

Just to make sure others reading this understand, it's not just your contract, it's actually Florida state law. Anyone within 10 days of the contract date can rescind without cause and without losing their deposit.

Good luck with your purchase!

I guess. I'll post here too, because it may be the most appropriate place.

I'm in ROFR. I'm also a current DVC owner. I definitely bought into DVC for the savings, whether it's discounted rooms or tickets. I enjoy taking my family and friends with me and use my discounted rooms and benefits, so that benefits my whole family (even the non-DVC members). Less benefits would have definitely effected the way I negotiated my contract and whether or not Disney has the power to take away those benefits or not, doesn't excuse the fact that entered into a contract without knowledge of the reduced benefits. Call it what you will, but I expected more out of Disney's customer service.

Thank you for the clarification, MinnieB.

I agree. I'm in the same boat, already a member but have a current contract in ROFR that I DEFINITELY feel I could have negotiated a better price for knowing this. I now feel I overpaid for a small 50-point AKL contract. I have been watching for one for 6 months and this was the only one I saw come available that wasn't already "sale pending" so I jumped & grabbed it at $96 a point. They were asking $97/pt - and it had been sale pending for a few weeks then that fell through -I didn't know why, but didn't want to risk not getting it, so I offered $96/pt & they accepted. High for AKL. I realize 50-pt contracts do go for much higher than the same resort with more points, but still. The seller didn't know I was already DVC member, so I could have used the "this contract comes with no benefits" as leverage for a lower price per point. Oh well, nothing I can do, I still want the points, just needed to vent I guess. Disney is a business in the end, and I'm really starting to see that lately between this & the "new" EMH paid events.

Same thing here....already a DVC member...passed ROFR on Monday....could I have gotten a better deal? Don't know - I wanted a small add on with my same use year, so I was restricted. I got what I wanted....I won't look back, only looking forward to having those extra points soon!! If I was a first time buyer it might make a difference in the offering price.

I'm not sure if this got missed in the melee on Monday or if it was incorrectly formatted- if so, I hope it's correct now!)

1st post. Closing on VGF, 200, August, $140/pt, $28,360, 200-2015, 200 Aug 2016, 200 Aug 2017, $1142 16' maintenance, $360 closing costs. Off to rofr. Upon passing rofr, plan to buy 25 more points direct, so as to not be a "2nd tier member".

Just wondering... Only because my DVC Direct cousin made the point - are those smaller 25 pt contracts part of the DVC Direct benefits package? Hmmmm...

We're in the same boat. We went into ROFR 3/16 and when I asked the first time we were told we would be grandfathered in because we were already under review. Yesterday, however - we got an email from our broker that it will be based on the actual closing date. Although we're totally bummed, I don't think the savings we would have potentially (and probably not even used) for the additional "perks/bennies" are no where near the amount of money saved having gone through resale vs direct.

Bottom line: Everything on their site and Disney's has verbage about not buying based on the assumption of getting bennies as they can be pulled at any time.
For us: still more money in our pocket, perks were NEVER the reason we bought in the first place.

I've been reading on other boards (including here on the RESALE POLICY CHANGE THREAD) that Disney is clarifying the whole extra benefits thing from yesterday, and they're now saying that a contract needs to have *closed* by yesterday, not just have been submitted for ROFR. Has anyone else heard that?

YES - it will be closing date, not date into ROFR. Our broker emailed us yesterday. Bummer but not really why we bought so I feel alright about it.

I've been meaning to add our info all day- and then low and behold, just got notification that we passed ROFR!
