Roethlisberger admits: 'I don't think I got in'

Had they not have to play against the Steelers 12th man - in this case the refs - they probably would have won.
I appreciate your opinion and I am sure I would be saying the same thing had the situation been reversed. However, there is no way to know that the outcome would have been in the Hawks favor had anything been any different. i would agree that they would have done better, but won? I don't think so.
All of the hype, the commercials only showing 3 Seattle players with the trophy versus how many Steeler players just confirms that Seattle was destined to lose no matter how good of a game they played.
I think that is just paranoid. I do not think this was a huge conspiracy.

During The KDKA coverage of the Steeler parade in Pittsburgh today, a reprter asked Ben about the statement. Ben said that he had since seen the tape of the play and that it was in. What he said on Leterman was seemingly just his thoughts at the time of the play.

PoohandWendy - I'm just tired of defending my position to you on every thread I post on. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that. I have to add that 90% of the Seattle fans feel the same way as I do about all of the things I've posted. So if I'm paranoid then the Pacific Northwest is full of paranoid people.

My husband had the same observation about all the trophy shots.

While it is paranoid to think conspiracy--it is clear bias of a network airing a championship game. (And we had other problems with the coverage as well in general).

No problem. I have no personal issue with you and I have meant no disrespect. I can understand your feelings, even if I disagree with them I cannot say I would not feel the same way if the situation were reversed.

I can totally agree with that, we have been on the underdog side many, many times. (I was saying the entire week before that I hated how the media fixated on one team (this time it was the Steelers) and played favorites. I think it is unprofessional. They are both great teams and deserved to be respected equally)

I was really just adressing the idea of whether or not things like that were some sort of proof that the Seahawks had no chance at winning, or that the game was fixed.

Thanks for the update :thumbsup2

For what it is worth, if you feel the refs cheated the Seahawks in this game then you can probably understand that the Steelers are also cheated by the controversy.

I really do not see how that will really change in the future because human beings are in charge of officiating and no one will ever feel that it is totally fair. Especially in the big games.

Not a problem--just found it interesting that I thought hubby was silly when he mentioned it. Then I picked up on it myself. Then I was thinking it while reading the thread. Then someone else mentioned it. Hubby is a Bucs fan btw.

I'm not aware of the officials scandals if there are any to even offer an opinon that the coverage indicated the game was fixed. I wouldn't know what to use as my evidence. :teeth:

At least with play reviews..they were able to show--that despite it being just a hair across the plane--that the call was good.

I like that there is opportunity to review plays--it at least cancels out a little bit of the human error.

True, but you will always have people thinking the calls are unreasonable. If anything, I think the main complaint I would have as a Seahawks fan is that they took the rules too literally. I think most of the calls were legit, but should they have been called? Were they being too picky? That would be my complaint.

But the bottom line is that you just keep playing the game. This is all monday morning QBing, the players were just playing the game as it went. As professionals do. I am impressed with how the Seahawk players have carried themselves after this loss. They have been a class act, IMO.

I don't have any problems with the trophy shots. Either they picked the players the typical sports fan would know, or they picked players that had shot at winning MVP. Either way, they picked the players that fit the bill.

I think that the comment was made by a relatively "green" quarterback who was very unsure of himself in a VERY big game. I'm sure we can all relate to making a comment doubting yourself in an emotional or stressful situation. The comment was made between a coach and a quarterback. Not a quarterback and millions of people! The footage has been reviewed by MANY people including myself, and that ball did go across the goal line before Ben touched the ground.

As for the trophy picture question, I don't see where there was that huge of a discrepancy. The Steelers shown holding the ball were Roethlisberger, Ward, Bettis, Porter, Polamalu and Cowher. The Seahwaks shown were Hasselbeck, Alexander, Stevens and Holmgren (that I can remember.) The Steelers shown were all people that most football watching Americans would recognize. Same for the Seahawks. I can't think of many other Seahawks that most American football fans would be able to recognize :confused3 Claiming some great consipiracy is ridiculous. The media went after the story and there weren't many beyond Bettis and Porter leading up to the game.

Sure most of the media touted the Seahawks as underdogs in the game because they should have been. When you only beat 2 teams with a winning record during the regular season it doesn't exactly speak volumes about your abilities. The NFC was a much weaker conference this year. The AFC is much stronger right now. They go thru cycles and I'm sure that the NFC will be stronger again in the next few years.

You are absolutely right.

I actually watched Letterman last night and didn't just read about it this morning. He was talking about what happened when he went to the sideline during the review.

Now, here's Ben, leaping over roughly 600 - 800 pounds of flesh, a flurry of men dressed in white, gold, blue and green. And he thinks to himself "I don't think I made it" seeing as he probably couldn't even see the goal line at that point. That seems like a pretty reasonable thought. He shared that with his coach during the review.

I can't see the retelling of that story as some kind of "admission" that he didn't make it. Heck, there are plenty of things said on the sidelines during plays, between plays, and after plays that are commentary on the game as it is happening. None of it means a hill of beans. It was reviewed, he clearly crossed the plane, and the Steelers righfully get 6 points for Ben's effort.

I can see questioning the holding call that nullified a pass to the 1 yard line, or the (IMO) incorrect personal foul on Hasselback during the interception return. But the touchdown was good and the game is in the books now.

I wish I had access to those commercials - it became a joke at my house - let's count the Seahawks! There were only 2 of the trophy commercials that we even caught sight of anyone from the Seattle team. I don't recognize many of the Steeler's players so we were just watching the jerseys. I didn't really notice the first time or two it ran but once one of DH's friends pointed it out - we really started looking for it.

Holmgren, Hasselbeck, Alexander, and Jones. Not sure about Stevens.
