Rode Mission Space today and it was......

So glad to hear it is going to be open when we arrive in August!

WOW! All this enthusiasm for Mission Space is just wonderful.

Cindy: Trying to remember the other positions. I know Pilot, Commander, and Engineer, which I was. I think the fourth might have been Navigator but not sure. I was too excited to pay much attention to the assignments given to the other three people with me. I plan to go again this week and will check on that.
I have no doubt your family, as you describe them, will all enjoy the ride. I believe everyone has the same ending.

Yes, you will experience a sensation of what I assume is supposed to be weightlessness after lift-off. Disney consulted with Nasa on this ride to give guests as true an experience as possible. They did a great job!

Kallison: Yes, Mission Space will have Fastpass.

Is this more intense than Body Wars? We love that ride, but I know several people who get sick on it.

how exciting!!! i'm not going until next year so i'm sure it will be open and there will be plenty of spoilers by then so i know what to expect! :)

Diane: I have ridden Body Wars and now that I've been on Mission Space I can tell you the rides are not the same at all.

In Body Wars you are in a room with several rows of people. I know if you sit on the ends of the rows there you get more of the movement than if you sit front and middle. Have had the privilege of going underneath Body Wars to watch how the ride operates (fascinating to see). Body Wars will bounce you around quite a bit but not so in Mission Space. Both have movement but are two different experiences. Again, if you are prone to motion sickness you will have a decision to make for yourself.

Another thing I forgot to mention in the way of warnings would be if you suffer from claustrophobia. You are very closed in your own space and it's dark except for the monitors and controls in front of you. The ride is about 4 1/2 minutes so it would be something to consider if that might bother you. Once in with the doors closed, you will not get out until the ride is over.

Thanks so much for this information!! I REALLY want to squeeze another Disney trip in so we can try the ride!!!!!!! Not sure if I can talk DH into it though! ;) Maybe I should send him a link to this thread.........;)

O.K. now here's the question I'm sure is in the back of everyone's mind who is going this summer: the soft opening is Aug 14 and the grand opening is in October, but CMs are on the ride now; is there any hope for those of us who will be there between now and the Soft Opening of getting to ride Mission Space?

That is EXACTLY what I needed to know....thanks much!:D

Newmouse: My pleasure to have been of help.

Fizban: The soft opening for guests will be August 15th. I can only assume that will be the first day park guests will be allowed in. Sorry I can't "beam" you all up there now to give you a first-hand look.

I see the warning sign indicates those with back and neck injuries should not ride. Is this strictly because of G forces or does the ride include some 'violent' motions, especially up and down motions.

Thanks for your help,

Indigo

I am riding this baby! motion sickness or not , dark or not, I want to be the Pilot. Since the soft opening in a day after my birthday, do you think if I write a letter to uncle Michael Eissner , he will send me a free airline ticket to go test Mission Space as a birthday present?? ;) A girl can dream, can't she?
Oh well, I guess I will have to wait until February , but I'm still riding that baby!!

Thanks for the great description!

I'll be 6 months pregnant.....Do you think it's too rough?

Thanks!
Alanna

Indigo: The ride does not have any "violent" movement but is more a pressure feeling from the "G" forces you will experience. I just loved it. Was a lot of fun and can't wait to experience it again. I think most everyone will feel the same way!

Pilot Mskanga: Hope you get your wish. We'll be looking forward to your visit next February.

Thank's for the post!!
It sounds so awesome!

I'm sooo upset though!
I'm going june 14-20
I'll miss it! I won't be back for a year. I can't afford it :(
noo!! I want to ride this VERY bad!

OK, so it accommodates 40 folks every 4-1/2 minutes . . .

How does this compare to loading speed for, say, Space Mountain or Splash Mountain?? Just trying to get an idea of how quickly (or slowly) the line would be moving.

I too am interested in knowing if younger children (7 to 9) can handle the intensity of this ride. Any thoughts?

This question may have been answered, but how are the G forces generated? Does the ride actually move in a circle like the thing at NASA or is it all just simulated? Or, is it more of a Body Wars/Star Tours ride? I can't imagine simulating G forces but maybe so.

OMG cannot wait to go in November!!!!!!!!!
