Rode Mission Space today and it was......

Otimon...

Thanks so much for all the information.. we are very very grateful... Epcot is going to be one of our first parks on our tour in August...

I am very encouraged by the whole thing....and the fact that it will be open in August!

Now, you may not even know this... but August 15th is soft opening.. will that mean that it will be open everyday..or intermittent openings.. or it this "projected openining"... soft opening would be before :projected opening"...

Now, would that make it a soft or projected opening? Will there be a single rider line? How intense for smaller kids? Would the preshow bore younger kids?

As for the pregnant poster... I personally wouldn't do it. It may be fine, but to me, with my kids, I would not "tempt fate" in any way shape or form... I would love nothing more than to ride it,, but at 6 months.. that would just make me nervous.

(No, I'm not an Ob/gyn... but just stating from one former pregger lady to a presently pregger lady!.. this is just MHO, nothing else.

Thanks for all of the information Otimon. Have you been on Spidy at IOA? How does it compare in terms of the awe factor?

Glad to answer as many questions as I can from my own experience riding it.

Tiger: No, have not been on that ride at IOA so cannot compare. Sorry.

Cindy and Lexiluke: Can only tell you information that has been given to us here at Epcot. Only that the soft opening will be Aug. 15th and the official opening will be in Oct. I assume if any adjustments or changes are needed to be made prior to the official opening, the ride may temporarily close at any given time for that purpose during those two months. Don't know yet about the Single Line but there may be. In regard to the younger guests, the ride is intense. My suggestion would be for the parents to ride the ride first and them make a determination as to whether or not it would be suitable for their child. The pre-show is all part of the experience to build excitement. Again, how youngsters will react to it will vary and hard to say.

Thereal: The "G" forces are generated by spinning and all 10 vehicles (pods) will move in a circle together, not individually. You will see this demonstrated when you enter the building. Personally speaking, even though I knew I would be spinning, I didn't really have the sensation of it at any time during the ride. Hard to describe the feeling. As I stated in an earlier post, Body Wars (and Star Tours) are not the same as Mission Space. The former two bounce you around quite a bit while Mission Space does not.

Donna: Have never worked at or gone on Space or Splash Mountains so cannot compare the loading speed. These are just previews for Epcot Cast Members at the moment so the mood was very relaxed as CM's came in. However, have heard it will be faster paced once it's up and running for guests.

The G force sounds like this one ride that they have at our local theme park. You get in this spaceship looking ride and stand up. Once the ride starts, you cannot feel yourself spinning, but the G force puts you up against the wall. Its pretty cool. I wonder if this is some of the same technology used to have the pods spinning, but you can't tell that you are actually spinning? Sounds pretty awsome anyway. Thanks for all the great info!!!

I am Seriously thinking of going to the "soft Opening." My Boss already knows I might be going.;) I have a small poster of the ride on my wall at work and I put the date in.:o Also, If I DO go, when will they start the "boarding." Should I get there EARLY and wait, or what?;) Thanks!

Pooh: Delighted to hear you'll be making the trip northward. All I can tell you at this point is that Epcot opens at 9:00AM. There is usually no big fanfare for a soft opening and, if all goes well for that date, those at the park will just be allowed in as they come.

Oh wow, I hope I have the guts to ride this. I've never been on a spinning ride. It really doesn't give you that queasy feeling like a free fall does? yikes. four minutes of spinning?

and why haven't you been on space or splash?

Thanks so much for all the great information Otimon! I'm wondering just how close is close when you talk about claustrophobia??? Elevator size? Shower size? Closet size? I want to go on this so bad.....

Bear: There will be three other people in your vehicle (pod as I have been calling it but don't know what the official term is). You will all be sitting next to each other in a row. With the harness in place I could move my head around but could only see an arm and leg of the person next to me. You will be advised to keep your head against the headrest and, once in that position, you will feel completely alone there as you won't see the person next to you at all. As mentioned earlier, the monitors and control panel will move right up in front of you and it will be dark except for the panel. I truly had the feeling I was alone there and in charge of the task I had to do to arrive on Mars safely. I really enjoyed it!

Doc: As I mentioned earlier, you really will have no sensation of spinning during the ride, such as on the Teacups at the MK. Nothing like that at all. It is hard to describe the effect you will feel, as everyone is different, but you will feel something. Personally speaking, I felt as though I was floating for a moment as I headed to Mars.

Haven't been on Splash or Space because I don't do big drops or coasters.

Thanks Otimon! Sounds like a great ride! I cant wait we will arrive on August 17th Wooo Hoooo!

Glad to help Bear.

Found out the answer to a couple of previous inquiries. When the ride is fully operational for guests, 160 guests will be riding through Mission Space at one time. Those guests will be divided into 4 vehicles (pods as I call them) of 40 guests each. Those 40 guests will then be divided into 10 groups of 4.

Mission Space will have a Single Rider's Line, as well as Fastpass and the Standby Line.

Mars is closer than you think.

I think I will make my ressie now for Sports!;) I will be leaving Thursday after work, and I will be going to EPCOT first thing Friday Morning and ride the ride I hope, than leave around 1:00pm.;) No Luggage, just a change of undies!;)

Bear: We'll look forward to seeing you on Friday the 15th. Have a great time.
