***ROCKSTAR: Supernova*** (spoilers welcome)

I have avoided this thread because of the threat of spoilers, but I cannot keep quiet any longer.

I do not get Lukas AT ALL. I could not wait for his "Living On a Prayer" to be over last night. I have tried liking him, but that was the last straw. I am done.

Dilana, she looked SO JEALOUS last night when Dave Navarro jammed with Storm. ***. She has really fallen. I hope that the overdose info is not true, but yikes she needs to go.

I am in love with Toby. :smokin:

I agree with Miss Jasmine. And of course we all hope that Dilana overdosing is not true.

After last nite my top choices are Toby & Storm. Magni just did not do it for me last nite, he could not work the crowd. toby & Strom worked the stage & crowd the best last nite.

Kae

So if the finally is next week, will one or two be going home tonight? It would just seem weird to have a final four, or top four rather than a top 3.

I hope Dilana is OK but she has lost me as far as rooting for her as the favorite. The original was average as best, and would have been the worst of the night if not for...

I was waiting for the band to tell Lukas his set was marinated in wrong sauce, but they said they liked it. At this point I officially don't have that much respect for this band. That performance of "Prayer" was the worst of the season and they liked it? :confused3

I'll be watching tonight and next week just to see this out, but I couldn't help to find it ironic that they showed the first commercial for the local concert (Everett Event Center on Feb 16th for you folks still interested) right after the Lukas set. Yeah right... :rolleyes1 not a chance given the possibility of the mumbling skunk being on stage. :sad2:

A story about an overdose by one of the contestants on Rock Star would definitely be big news. I've heard nothing about it. Even when I Google it, nothing shows up.

Magni: Back in the U.S.S.R. (The Beatles)
I thought he was good but not memorable. He has a good synergy with the band. He sings well. He has good energy, but he doesn’t engage the crowd as well as the others.
When the Time Comes (original)
Props to him for a good song translated into English from another language. I had the same opinion of this performance as his cover.

Storm: Suffragette City (David Bowie)
Great performance. I liked her energy and her interactions with Dave. She didn’t really do the crazy eyes which was good as well. DH was disappointed in her outfit. Of all the contestants I think she has the best crowd interactions.

Ladylike (original)
Loved it. Lots of energy. She changed up the performance, which Magni didn’t do, and I thought the song was great. I don’t think it was the best original in 2 seasons though. Pretty Vegas and Trees were so much more memorable.

Lukas: Livin’ On a Prayer (Bon Jovi)
If I didn’t know the lyrics to this song all ready, I wouldn’t have understood more than 3 words he sang. I hated this performance.

Headspin (original)
I liked this a lot better but I still wasn’t wowed by it. I just am not a fan of the warbly growl he does. I like him a lot better when he sings more clearly and as Jason says “opens his throat”.

Toby: Mr. Brightside (The Killers)
It was a decent version. It was slightly better than average. I liked his energy and his crowd interactions. DH thought he was too vanilla. I thought it was slightly karaoke when he started mimicking the little nuances of the original. I thought Marty did a better version last season but it was still good. It irritated me that he never sang the “Mr Brightside” line.

Throw It Away (original)
I really liked this a lot. I think either he or Storm should get the encore with their original song. It was catchy without being cheesy.

Dilana: Behind Blue Eyes (The Who)
This is one of DH’s favorite songs and he was cringing the whole time. I thought she did a reasonably good job. Not stellar and certainly not in the caliber in which I’ve come to expect from her but decent. I thought she did much better towards the end.

Supersoul (original)
Gilby is right – it is horribly cliché. But it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. If she didn’t go on in the beginning about what it was about I would probably like it more. I have to say that Dilana has been my #1 pick since the beginning but I’ve really had it with the Dilanadrama. Let it go. The way she keeps bringing it up in interviews and on the show is just showing her to be a drama queen. She screwed up. Big deal. Move on.

My rankings:
1) Storm
2) Toby
3) Dilana
4) Magni
5) Lukas

I'm in the minority I guess...I thought Lukas really showed his creativity last night. I like Toby, but he's not that "original"...still love Magni too.

***entering this morning wearing my flame retardant suit, WOW, a lot of Lukas haters in here***

First up Dilana:

I actually liked her voice on Behind Blue Eyes but I didn't like her original song at all. Poor Dilana is just self-destructing right in front of our eyes.

Magni

Magni is a talented singer but has no real stage presence - he's boring to watch - not a good fit with Supernova.

Storm

Storm has a GREAT voice - almost liked her original song, it was ok, nothing that I would buy but I think she has a GREAT future.

Lukas

All the reasons why everyone HATES Lukas is why I like him. :teeth: Loved what he did with Living on a Prayer, once again Lukas takes a song and instead of imitating the original makes the song completely his own. Headspin is one of my favorite Lukas originals and he was GREAT!!! Love the voice, love the stage presence, love the outfit, love everything Lukas brings to the stage and in his singing - love the growl in his voice.

Toby

I really didn't like Toby's first song by the Killers - just meh to me, he took it up a notch on his original song - did ok.

After reading all the spoiler reports from the people who attend the taping on Sunday, I was a little mad that Mark Burnett Productions cut all the comments made to Lukas after he performed.

What happened to the story TLee told Lukas about having a dream about being in a band with a singer just like Lukas when TLee was a youngster???? What happened to Jason telling Lukas that he had been singing Headspin since March when he first heard it on the audition tape??? What happened to TLee then backpedaling and saying that this competition is far from over????

Oh yea, this is a reality TV show and edited to make the public think what MBP wants us to think. :rotfl:

WHo's going home tonight: Magni or Dilana

There will be 4 going to the finale next week and the public voting is over - it's now in the hands of Supernova.

Me, too!! I saw Tommy smirk to the others during Lukas's set and I thought to myself, "At last, Lukas is going to get slammed." And instead they tongue bathe him with accolades. :confused3 Over at Rock Band Forum it is posted that Tommy just couldn't stop raving about Lukas. :confused3 I was soooo bored during his songs (I NEVER understand a word the dude is singing!) that I actually spin-spa'ed my feet waiting for him to hurry up and exit the stage.

Someone posted earlier about Dilana looking jealous that Storm got to jam with Dave... I noticed that as well! And she was really ticked at Paul's comments at the beginning of the show (shown on the video coverage of rehearsals) when he basically said she was an idiot for trying to change a song that she didn't even know.

My rankings based on last night:

1. Toby
2. Storm
3. Magni
4. Lukas
5. Dilana

Who I think should win? Toby. Who I think Super Nova will pick? Lukas.

I was more excited to hear that the House Band would be opening for Super Nova with some of the rockers performing.

According to your post they cut out the parts of them rippin Dilana for delaying due to the stage lights. It's edited for time and it appears to be fair.

I would be all for them giving us more stage banter and cutting out all the Lukas time. ;)

ITA agree with you about Lukas.

Amen, it's not like we can understand what he is singing anyway. :thumbsup2 ;)
It's one thing to make a song your own, it's another to make the song your own and have it be actually enjoyable. Changing something doesn't always make it better.

I really think Toby is the best choice SN can make from a marketing point of view. He can sing, he can write, he's got great energy, and excellent stage presence. More importantly he's vanilla enough to appeal to a broad range of people and he will bring the girls in droves.

I'm not a Lukas hater by the way. I think he is talented. I just don't think he's right for SN and I don't like it when he growls and mumbles.

See, that's exactly my point. If you are going to have a singer in your band - I personally would like to understand what the dude/dudette is saying.

There's no doubt that Lukas has great stage presence. He's got the funky look (hair and makeup), the wild attire, the crazed-man stumble/shuffle walk.

But I have never been able to understand a word of what he's singing. Never. Sometimes I catch bits and pieces.

I don't hate Lukas -- he's just not my favorite to win this thing.

I understand why everyone says what they do about Lukas' singing and I understand that we all won't like the same people but I always think about another singer that I could never ever understand ANYTHING he sang until I read the words and he was one of the biggest rockstars ever - Kurt Cobain

Even though I compared them earlier in this thread, they are different kind of mumblers IMO. Kurt would mumble parts of the song and come clean in the chorus and other key parts of the song. Lukas even cuts off the end of the words in the chorus. Like others have posted, had I didn't have the lyrics memorized since my teens, I wouldn't have a Prayer understanding his take on Bon Jovi.

Lukas rendition of Livin on a Prayer was very painful for me! Didn't understand one single mumble and it hit me hard that anyone could murder a BonJovi song that way, it was mutilated beyond imagination. I like Lukas but with a different group, and there is no way I would buy a CD or a concert ticket if he were to head their band, although I am getting closer to going to one of their concerts since the announcement about the House Band! Everyone has different tastes in music, it's what makes the world go round, but Lukas does not do it for me, and actually I didn't care that much for Kurt Cobain either.
