***ROCKSTAR: Supernova*** (spoilers welcome)

All I can say is WTH was that all about tonight? Keeping that lackluster singer? No fan of Phil that much, but Zayda should have been gone several weeks ago, and she squeeks by him? And I'm sick of Jill, she needs to go bye-bye too, don't like her attitude and just not crazy about her singing either.

OK, I missed the show tonight, but from reading this thread it sounds like Phil went home tonight and Zayda stayed. I can't believe it. She is the worse singer ever, in fact I can't even call her a singer, she is so bad. This is crazy!!!!

Thought Zayda did OK with that song Wednesday. Shocking.

Phil did poorly again, but no way is he worse than Zayda week to week. She should have went home based on the many bad performances.

And what was with giving Jill a bad time about using sex appeal but then applauding Storm's exntneded butt shake once she hit the stage for her encore? Those band members are good musicians but they are not the brightest bulbs in rock.

I'm starting to wonder about these guys. What the heck is it they want? It's obviously not necessarily a decent singer.

Phil is from Ocean City, MD which is a big beach resort in my area. In their local newspaper Beachcomer there was an article about Phil. He said in the article that he didn't really even like the music the band was playing and that he only got in the competition to give himself and his band exposure. He went onto say that if he won, he would have to go on tour with Supernova even though he really wouldn't want to. To me he took the spot of someone who really wanted to be part of Supernova. I think the band might have found out about this since they said they don't feel he is committed and then he makes the comment he wants to win the contest, not that he wants to be in the band. I think that sealed his fate.

Also I think Zayda is staying another week for the drama. Didn't Brooke say that she has some of the most watched video because of the remarks between her and the band.

For me personally, I don't think either Phil or Zayda can sing. I do think that she should have been booted out long ago. She makes my ears bleed.

I don't think Phil is a bad singer, he just has a different style and is not right for Supernova. Zayda isn't right for any band. Watching her on Tuesday night I found myself yelling at the TV to make it STOP!

I thought the same thing but when I watched it again Gilby turns away. It was Tommy and Jason who were hooting and hollering. And did you see Jill's face when Lukas was doing that tongue thing with Patty while she was doing her song?

I think they got rid of Phil while they had the chance. Zayda will probablly be in the bottom 3 every week so they can boot her anytime.

This is exactly why Phil is gone before Zayra - that interview did him in and the fact that he said twice last night that he wanted to win, not that he wanted to be part of the band.

I didn't see Gilby turn away or Jill's face when Lukas did what he did. Maybe it's just Gilby since he did make that good point about Heart's Wilson sisters. Of course he wasn't with the band when they had Nancy dolled up like a 80's street walker. :rotfl:

Phil was not going to make the top 5 anyway, so what does it matter when he is sent packing. Josh, Zayra, Patrice, Jill - they can all go in any order. I think SN kind of wants to keep Zayra because they know she will be in the bottom three again (until she is eliminated) and if someone else who is more deserving (in their view) of being booted in the bottom three, the other can go, but if no one else is more deserving then Zayra can be booted. She can be their "safety." And let's face it - she is very entertaining. I look forward to her for the entertainment factor alone. It is like the audition shows for AI that people watch solely for the train wrecks.

Just read this on the TV W/O Pity forum (details about Phil's elimination and maybe more insight as to the shocked faces of the remaining contenders at the end of the show):

Even with a good half hour of dialogue cut -- the Gilby/Jill sparring, for example, went on at least twice as long as shown -- you got the gist of it. But I know there's one blank that needs filling right now:

After the Hatchet Man chopped Phil, you all saw him standing there saying his final words to them. What you didn't see was Dave suddenly piping up with "Do you get newspapers up at the Mansion, Phil?"

"No."

"Well," says Dave, "we do. Let me read you something." He whips out a newspaper and proceeds to read from an interview with Phil, in which Mr. Ritchie states that the reason he’s doing the show is to promote himself and his own band. What’s more, he doesn’t even like Supernova’s music!

Phil is taken aback when confronted by this, but does admit that he didn’t like “the Supernova riff” (or something like that). Tommy, meanwhile, looks like he’s just been stabbed in the heart. (You can see a shot like this in the show.) He turns to the other Rockers and warns ALL of them NOT to make the band or their work look bad with the media or in the press. Gilby then tells Phil that Tommy was absolutely devastated to be letting him go and that he hadn't wanted to do it.

Do they have a recording of that? I'd love to see that conversation.

It's totally understandable for them to let him go for those reasons. I just didn't get why they were saying he wasn't committed, so why didn't they bring these things to light last night on television?

I'm a bit confused about the Phil interview. When did he make the comment to the press - was it before or after they had the songwriting clinic where they had their first actual sample of Supernova's music?

I have not seen the article, but read that it was published on July 7th, so he heard just the short riff but it was before the songwriting clinic. In his blog, he mentions that he wasn't too impressed with SN before (from the riff) but now he likes their sound. Whatever. Too little, too late apparently.

Ok, so as the audience of this show, we wonder why decisions are made based on performances....don't ya think it would be a little wise to let us in on a bit more of the conversations to WHY they let people go, when it boiled down to something like this issue with Phil? It certainly makes more sense to me now, after reading stuff about the article....whatever I guess

Philling in the Blanks

Wow! A lot of people are really up in arms about Phil going home! Well, after watching the show last night on television, I would have to agree with the Supernova guys once again. If you think about the direction we give these contestants, Zayra and Patrice are the only ones who listened to it. We keep saying, "change it up". Phil kept giving them the same performance while Patrice and Zayra clearly made efforts to try different things with their performances. We all know there can only be one winner, so I agree that the ones who are willing to take direction and evolve should be entitled to stay longer. Phil just didn't do anything new. As for the "question of Phil's commitment", check this out:

Ritchie said his primary goal for competing is to gain exposure for his band. "I mean, really I just hope to gain exposure. I love my band and I love the music," he said. "I'm not stoked about the music Supernova's popping out."
He said he knows if he wins the competition he's obligated to tour with the band, but that's a risk he's willing to take.
"I may have taken a risk. I love my boys back home, but you know I still have to look out for myself in this world," he said. "I've got to create opportunities for myself, and this is too huge an opportunity to say no to."

Obviously, I should know, of all people, that what you read in the press isn't always accurate, but these are Phil's words in quotes and he has confirmed saying it. If Supernova is looking for someone to represent them and be committed, why would they choose a guy who doesn't take direction in an audition setting and slags them off in the press? IMHO...Supernova might as well keep the ones who want to be there and are willing to try to mix it up.

This was asked right away:

I mean, do you honestly think he is the only contestant that is using Supernova to promote other agendas? For that matter, aren't there members of Supernova that are using Supernova to promote their other projects?

People may be promoting other things, but they aren't talking *poop* about the band they are in or auditioning for. That *poop* is unacceptable.
==================================================
I have to agree with the guys for cutting Phil. Singing ability has nothing to do with this one. They need someone who WANTS to sing for them. Although, I wish they would have aired at least SOME of this on the show last night.

Ok would like to add this Zayra & Patrice did change it up. I do no tsee the first epi so on went to the web site to listen to some of the first performances & I thought Zayra was good, so it make me wonder (imho) Zayra does well during the elimnation round(except for the first time when she did the repeat but even then she did a better job)do you think she just kinda screws this up on monday so she can get more exposure?

As for Jill during the clinic when SuperNova were playing their tracks Gilby was discussing his daughter & saying this is the sound we are going for-Rock & Roll not Heavy Metal, everyone kinda agreed it was top down rock not sexed up grinding Hard Heavy Metal. So I think she totally missed the boat with her performance.

And some of the songs they pick I don't even think they like in the first place, so how could they give a goodreview.SuperNova that is.

Again just my thoughts
