I was looking into the Rock 'n Roll 1/2 Marathon in Philadelphia in September as my first 1/2 - any thoughts on this race? Since I am a beginner, I'm not very fast and I don't want to embarass myself - would this be a good race for a first-timer or would I be out of my league here?

Tammy,

I'm not fast at all, but I've done this race twice (once when it was still the Philadelphia Distance Run). I think if you can finish a Disney race in the alloted time then you can do this race. I dare say that the course is even easier than the courses in WDW. There are no on ramps like there are at WDW. The hardest hill is just the return to the Art Museum. It isn't a very long hill though!

I did it in 2009 when it was still the Philadelphia Distance Classic. I thought it was a really good race with a pretty easy course. Others have said they had problems with the volunteers at waterstops but I did not.

I have run it the past 3 years and would recommend it. There is a fairly large field with people of all different paces, so you would not feel left out or alone no matter your speed. It is a nice, flat course at a generally nice time of the year weather-wise. I found the water stops all well stocked and the people friendly. There are always a handful of WISHers there too.
