Rocketing prices.....aaaaghhh!

Hi 2tiggies! Thanks for the advice :goodvibes I really appreciate the time you and Wayne have taken to respond to me :)

I am getting really stumped to know what to do for the best! I sway from one day to the next - one day we are going to do a split say off and on site DIY, and the next I think to hell with the stress of worrying about it - i'll just book 14 days on site with Virgin and sort out the savings after!!

Probably won't be last post or question about it!! ;)

Thanks again

Claire :)

It will always be that way. No matter how good or bad prices are at any given time, there are so many choices and the challenge is that one is not always necessarily better or more cost effective than the other. As long as you operate within your budget, it isn't as simple as a question of how much a trip costs because so many other factors come into play. For every option you take, it costs something. It may be money, could be a saving, it may be more or less time or convenience by proximity to a certain area ...... the list will never end and you have to make the best decision for each particular trip. Easier said than done of course :rolleyes1

None of us ever have a last question so you are in good company :goodvibes

Hi there,

I can only sympathise with you and all the other people looking to book, We booked in April of last year for this august, 3 weeks at P.O.F.Q. For 2 ad and 2 kids over 10, with free disney dining plan, 3 week disney ultimate and 2 week orlando flex plus, and finally upgraded the car to a 4WD, total cost was £8500, however in the virgin january sale this price for the exact same holiday had rose to £12400, some sale that eh! so my only advice to you would be book early and get the holiday that you want, by the way I checked again the exact same holiday from the virgin preview 3 weeks ago and it had only gone up £200 on what we`ve paid for this year. Bear in mind that the food would of cost us £2700 had it not been free and is well worth it, the disney dining plan has been announced with the dates and hotels in April the last 2 times we have been, so keep your ears and eyes open on here.

Don't knowif it helps but I saw elsewhere flights to sfb 27 aug with monarch 327 per person.

Prices have got so crazy, I tried to book flights earlier in the week to Florida for feb 12 and on the va website it was 657 each!! I booked with vh and was quoted 1940 ... Whilst on the phone it came down to 1790.

Have you considered renting dvc points... IT can work out very cheap

I would have suggested that but if she wants to stay onsite for her daughters birthday (24th 25th december) it is the highest bracket of points so will probably be a lot dearer than pop.It may be cheaper up till the 19th Dec but dont have points chart around to check.Good idea though. We rent points at the mo as la lot cheaper than booking direct at AKLV for the time we go anyway:thumbsup2

Yeah December has become soo expensive, i thought those aug flights were a bargain for anyone with kids. I use tagrel.com to check the points. I think ap rate is not available during this period also.

Hi

Once you get in the .com site to start pulling up quotes, make sure you select a discount or offer before entering your selected dates and searching. Unlike the UK site, the US one only shows the offers and discounts if you specifically click through it. If you just put in your dates and search it will show you the rack rates.

It is worth keeping in mind that with Disney US to take advantage of any offer or promotion it only has to be available on the day you check in for you to benefit from said offer for the entire duration of your stay. For example, if free dining offer ends on 15th October and you check in on that date and stay for 2 weeks, you are eligible to take advantage of it. With Disney UK the offer has to run from the date you check in until your check out date inclusive for you to be able to add it onto your booking.

Disney US has actually changed now (except their free dining which you will still get for the whole trip as long as it valid on check in) and they do their discounts day by day. So if you are there 2 weeks and the first week is part of a room only discount and the second isn't you will only get the discount for the first week and second will be at rack rate.

We currently have 4 nights booked at the Contemporary in September with a 35% discount :thumbsup2 Last year we did 3 nights with 42% off although that was an AP rate not public :goodvibes

I saw that yesterday playing with their site. I also noticed (through a pin code) that for the second time now, Disney US is only offering free QSDP with mods, not the regular. I imagine it's only a matter of time for that to spill out into the public offeres. They are still offereing free CS dining for the values though so for anyone planning on staying at a value resort, this would be worth looking into. Just a heads up for those who usually prefer to book through the US site

is their an advantage to booking through the USA site?
Also, when will free dining be available through all the deluxe resorts on the USA site for 2012?

The only advantage economical, if what they are offering over the dates you plan to travel is better than what you can get on Disney UK. Also, sometimes if you are going for a shorter trip or not the typical 7/14 days, Disney US can work out cheaper with the right promotions. It's a bit hit and miss really and there is no way to tell unless you are prepared to play the waiting game.

I have just received a pin code for US free dining which is from June (? I don't have the email open at the moment) until 13th August this year. That is pretty normal - they are releasing the promotions less than 6 months out. It seems that the offer I refer to is only pin code, although this often becomes a public offer. I would say to you that you are in for the long haul in terms of waiting for 2012 prices, but Disney US have been making so many changes to their discounts and promotions over the last year that it is really anyone's guess. Maybe that is part of their strategy - panic induced booking because people are no longer comfortable relying on historical patterns :confused3

We booked with the US site for our Dec 2009 trip.

This was because we only booked 3 months out, value resort offered free qsdp (which we upgraded to ddp) and at the time you only needed to buy a 1 day myw ticket to get the deal - think it is now a 2 day. We had unused tickets from a previous year so didn't want to buy ultimate tickets.

The uk deal at the same time would have worked out dearer as you needed to stay moderate or deluxe to get free dining and you had to buy ultimate tickets.
