Rock the Universe ticket question

I recently got the 40% off pin, so decided to piggyback a visit to universal onto our disney trip. It's the same weekend as Rock the Universe. I noticed that the Rock the Universe tickets are significantly cheaper than any other kind (even though I'd only need the two day tickets and not the Friday - still cheaper even with that. Oh, I'm talking about the package deal for tickets that includes park to park tickets, just so that's clear).

I have two questions:

1.) I have no interest in going to the Rock the Universe concerts. Can I still buy the tickets though? Are there limitations with them? (Mostly concerned about my day access to the parks).

2.) I have a small child...are they allowed in for the nighttime events? I didn't see a child ticket listed, would I just buy a regular Rock the Universe ticket for him (barring answers to question number 1)?

Thanks so much for all your info.

I don't know of any limitations on RTU tickets but you can still purchase the tickets. You can enter the Studios park any time after 4PM and can stay until 1AM with those tickets. Day guests who are not attending RTU must leave the park at 6PM.

There are no children's tickets to most of Universal's hard ticket events (RTU and Halloween Horror Nights) so you would pay the adult rate. There are three stages throughout the park and music will be playing almost continuously. I don't know how small your child is but RTU is very crowded and the attendees tend to get a little rambunctious.

The important thing to remember is...during a hard ticket event (after normal park hours), not all attractions and restaurants are open. There are usually only four attractions open and those are: Transformers, Despicable Me, Revenge of the Mummy and the Rockit coaster. These events are geared more to older children and adults who could ride those attractions. Plus they usually have a party type atmosphere that may be inappropriate for young children.

Here is the link to the website for the event. I think you should read it carefully and decide if your child would enjoy the parks during the event.

Thanks for responding!

Yes, my kids are quite young so we probably wouldn't go to the park in the evening (although the option is there).

But, the Rock your weekend ticket package is cheaper even than buy a 2day park-to-park ticket. So, I'm just curious if I'm reading that right. (As in, I can go to the parks during the day with this ticket).

this site shows the 4 rides that Metro West stated that will be opened at the studios.

the link will show you the 4 rides that will be open at ioa.

i don't think littles would be doing 3 of those 4 rides at ioa.

this site will give you the info on the ticket prices for rock the universe.

it states that this hard ticket event only covers from 6 pm to 1 am.

Guests with Rock the Universe tickets can enter Universal Studios after 4pm. The park closes for guests NOT attending Rock the Universe at 6pm, but your ticket will allow you to remain in the park until 1am to experience all the music and thrills.

you would have access to all the rides and shows in the parks if you buy the regular UO park tickets.

but, the parks will close at 6:00 to the general public unless you buy the rock the universe tickets.

if you buy the rock the universe tickets for that weekend event, you would only have 2 hours in the parks to do all the rides on the 6th and 7th.

at 6, only 4 rides per park will be open to the hard ticket guests.

the way it reads to me, the 8th (sunday) for park admission would be included in that 2 day rock ticket pass.

the ticket site lists the 3 day ticket costs at:

BOTH NIGHTS of Rock the Universe
THREE FULL DAYS admission to both Universal Studios® and Universal's
Islands of Adventure® theme parks
PARK-TO-PARK access all weekend

Advanced purchase required on or before Aug. 30, 2013

$113.99

if you buy that pass, it would cost you more than just buying a one day park ticket for sunday.
you could buy the children's sunday ticket at the kid price.
for RTU, no children ticket prices.

Ah, see the way I'm reading it is that you get three daytime tickets in addition to the RTU tickets that can by used during the day on the 6,7,and 8th during normal park operating hours. I might be wrong, which is why I asked! Thanks!

I have been to rock the universe if you buy the rock your weekend passes you get three full days in the park including the concerts at night. All rides are running until the hard ticket event kicks in on Friday and Saturday .Crowds are moderate. Just remember only universal stays open for the concerts. Ioa runs a normal schedule.

I do not know where any of you have gotten the very strange idea that only 4 attractions are open during Rock the Universe. The only closed attractions tend to be those that use live actors (Beetlejuice, Fear Factor Live, Animal Actors) and unless something is under construction (Diagon Alley) it is more than likely that the attraction will be open. On Universal Rock the Universe site itself they highlight at least 5 attractions and those are only highlights. Plus the Rock the Weekend ticket allows entry into both parks during normal hours and into the Studios during Rock the Universe after 4pm. And really Universal does not really force people out of the park immediately for the event, they just wont let you in certain areas or on any attractions after 6pm if you do not have a ticket to the event.
