I have given Morgan (age 9) Robitussin anytime she has had a cough. They have a dosage for 6 and under of 6-12 years of 1 tsp. For adults...2 tsp.

Anyway.....she is really coughing bad tonight...just like a dry think...(I am not overly concerned at this point)........So, I only have the maximum strength Robitussin left and it says for under 12.....to consult a physician. But for adults it still says 2 tsp.

Do you think it would be ok to give to her??? She weighs about 80 pounds...probably close to the weight of a 12 year old??!!

I was thinking maybe 3/4 tsp instead of the whole.....anybody ever give their kids maximum strenth Robitussin??????

Thanks

I'm not a doctor, but I've done this. I've given a 1/4 of the amount it says for an adult and see how they react. If it doesn't seem to be working, the next dose is a tiny bit more. Until I can get to the store.

Thanks Laurie...you know....I am sure I have done this too before...but I always second guess myself....and she just really needs a good sleep......the regular stuff didn't seem to work too well anyway........maybe this will kick in a little better anyway

I think we all do. :) I hope you get some rest tonight too. :)

Yea....just gave her the notch between 1/2 and 3/4. Why does this always happen before we are going camping. We are leaving Friday for the weekend to Cedar Point!!!!

Plus, don't know if you remember....Morgan was just at the after hours clinic September 5th (her BD)....with a double ear infection. That cleared up fine with the antibiotics.

You know what.....I forgot....she also threw up Saturday night...not alot....just a little....that's why I probably forgot.....

And now for all the coughing....that annoying cough that you just want her to stop.....

Hopefully she can sleep good tonight...and if not better by Thursday...I guess a trip to the dr's again....

Thanks again

That poor girl, and poor mom. I hope she gets to feeling better pretty soon.

I am not sure, and just a thought, but the reason for the dosage difference pertaining to age may be in the ingredients. The extra strength may have alcohol or another ingredient in it that the regular does not. For the sake of relief for the one night I'd probably go with a half teaspoon ...JMHO

Hi Donna....I gave her just between the 1/2 and 3/4 mark. It did say it had alcohol in it....didn't read the regular bottle since I don't have it anymore. She did fall asleep good......
She is a big girl.....only 50" and 80 pounds, so I think it will be ok.

I will go and get some regular stuff in the house...Robitussin is good to have on hand.

Hi Lisa...

I do have the regular bottle, and no alcohol, so there's your difference ;) I think you did the right thing, glad to hear she's getting some sleep :)

Thanks Donna!!:D
Since this kind is helping her sleep at night...wonder if I could give it to her tomorrow too...cause I plan to take her to the drs on Thursday if it's not better since we are leaving camping on Friday for the weekend.
