I really hope so. People so often forget (myself included in this) how serious of a disease it is. It's hard to picture it because it doesn't "show" like Cancer, Lung disease, etc. It's hard for people to "see" it if they don't have any apparent behaviors. This is what happened to my children's birth parents and it scares the heck out of me that it will happen to my son when I can no longer make him take his medicine. They did not commit suicide, but self medicate with the alcohol and drugs.
If anything good can come out of this, I hope it is that we can really make changes to the mental health system in America and make it okay for people to talk about their mental health issues without being shunned.
I think people feel really uncomfortable about it. There are have a lot of negative connotations regarding "mental hospitals" and in reality the people we run into on a daily basis could very well be suffering in some form it. It's when people pass suddenly like Robin, people bring it up again. You're right. Mental illness is attributed to chemical imbalances. Really, whenever a person is sick in any way, there is some type of imbalance in their systems. Why should mental illness be looked at any differently?

Apparently, I didn't realize how much I cared about him. This has broken my heart. I grew up with him, first seeing him on Happy Days then the spin-off Mork & Mindy. I hope he has finally found peace.

Many amazing things have been said by many people but I actually think this sums things up perfectly....
"President Barack Obama on Robin Williams: "He was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit."
(not meant to be political whatsoever, just so happens the POTUS is the one who said it)
