did you guys hear about this?

"The picture is one of a number of different Oz adaptations in the works, including a big screen version of hit stage musical Wicked, and Oz, which sees Dorothy's granddaughter sent to the Emerald City to "fight evil," according to the Los Angeles Times."

Please please please don't even try to improve or make another. This is one classic I don't want touched

it's supposed to be a prequel not a remake

I would watch Robert Downey Jr read the dictionary....

Hopefully this adaption will be better than Wicked. I heard so many good things about the book and it was absolute torture getting through it.

really? it's coming back here in the fall and we were going to get tickets.

was it really that bad??

The book of Wicked isn't very good, but it's very different than the musical. The musical, in my opinion, is definitely worth seeing, but skip the book. It's slow and boring.

Also, Downey Jr as Wizard of Oz? Yikes, that creeps me out a lot for some reason.

Why do they keep messing with the classics? Remakes or sequels. Its still messing with it. Please stop.

I SLOGGED through the book Wicked. I finished it, but it took me like 2 months. I normally read a book or two each week. The musical, Wicked was WONDERFUL. Very, very loosely based on the book. The musical is clever and bright and FUN!

As others have said, I've heard that the musical is fantastic. I can't remember why I didn't go when it was here, but I've heard very, very good things about the musical.

The book? Ugh.

Since there are something like fourteen Baum books set in the land of Oz, it doesn't bother me much that it is being revisited.

I always hate it when movies are made from books. They change or leave out so many details. Also, I think that they could try harder for an original idea.

Regarding Wicked the Musical: It is fantastic; go see it. I have seen it five times and have loved it each time.

Regarding Wicked the Book: It is also a really good book. I did have to slog through the first part, but once the story was set up, I couldn't get enough. This may be because I love it when I notice certain types of social commentary appearing in the book that I am reading. I try to decide which side the author is advocating, then I reexamine my views based on the arguments made in the book.

Wicked the book is slow, drawn out and boring. The musical is COMPLETELY different. I literally saw Wicked on Broadway three times in less than 3 months. If I could afford to go see it again, I would go in a heartbeat.

I don't like it when classic movies are messed with, but when it comes to prequals and sequels, they can be interesting. After seeing Wicked, I can never look at the Wicked Witch of the West the same again. All I can imagine is Idina Menzel singing "Defying Gravity" on the broadway stage.

I thought the musical was okay, but never made it through the book. I NEVER put down a book, too-- it was just awful!

Okay, new rule. Once a film reaches a level of greatness such as The Wizard Of Oz, it is under no circumstances allowed to be sequeled, remade, prequeled, spin-off'd...you name it. The film should remain alone as one timeless classic...and never duplicated. We as the movie-going public should decide which films are so timeless that they cannot be tortured with continuations. I would nominate:
-The Wizard Of Oz
-Mary Poppins
-E.T.
-Avatar
-Forrest Gump
-The Sound Of Music
-Jurassic Park (two crappy sequels too late for that film)

Avatar was simply a high-tech version of (take your pick here): Pocahontas, The Last Samurai, Dances with Wolves, A Man Called Horse/etc. It made a truckload of money, but I would not put it in the same category of Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, etc.

And, FWIW, Cameron is already talking about Avatar 2. Rumor has it that it will take place in the oceans of Pandora, but I have a confidential email that ""Avatar 2" was "Journey to the Old World". Pocahontas Neyteri travels to the New World Earth to rescue John Smith Jake Sully, who has fallen to the evil machinations of Governor Radcliffe Parker Selfridge. . . . "

But that still does not mean that Oz could not be revisited. There are a lot of books in the series, and Wizard barely touched the land of Oz.

Another big thumbs up :thumbsup2 for the musical "Wicked". It was fantastic!!

Wonderful show, incredible music, great story that at several times, almost makes you cry.

Why would anyone want to do a "prequel" since one already exists?

I agree, the book I have never been able to finish. The musical?? Best I've ever seen!!! I have tickets to see it for the 4th time this coming September.

I would love to see him in this role.
