I'm hoping that some of you can help me. I'm planning on driving solo from TN to WDW with an overnight in Dothan, AL. I'm avoiding Atlanta on the drive down because Georgia is playing Georgia Tech that day. I've done some preliminary searching via TripAdvisor and Google. I've narrowed it down to either of the 2 below. Has anyone stayed at either? How was your experience? I'm traveling solo, so I want to be in as safe an area as possible.
  • Best Western Dothan Inn & Suites, or
  • Comfort Inn & Suites Dothan East

For the drive back home, I'm going to drive through GA staying overnight in Tifton, GA. College Football will be on a break and there are no major events going on in Atlanta, so it'll be the usual ugly Atlanta traffic. Tifton seems to have more hotels, so of course I can't seem to decide between them. Any input on the following?
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Tifton
  • Comfort Inn & Suites Tifton
  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Tifton, GA
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites Tifton

The La Quinta in Valdosta is like only 1.5 years old if that could be an option.

Can't help you on hotel choice other than look at TripAdvisor & Google reviews, which you've already done.

BUT, regarding UGA/GT, if timing works and you can go through Atlanta about an hour after kickoff to ~3 hours after kickoff, traffic shouldn't be impacted by the game. Although isn't that also Thanksgiving weekend? Yuck.

They haven't posted a time for the game yet. Plus as you said it's Thanksgiving weekend, so probably best to avoid Atlanta (including the by-pass) on the drive down.

From TN I don't see how using the 285 bypass will have any game day traffic. It isn't even in the path from Athens to Atlanta, it's on the opposite side. If I was driving from TN to FL (I don't, we fly because I hate that drive) I would not go all the way through Dothan. There's no way that's saving time, unless you are driving from West TN, then yeah, I guess it might.

Besides the game, I wouldn’t think they’d be too much trouble with traffic on Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Sunday? Absolutely. But not really on Saturday.

Hopefully, they’ll announce game time far emotion advance so that you can plan your route accordingly (e.g go through Atlanta during game time).
