RnR Savannah, GA - Marathon & Half-Marathon - Nov. 5, 2011

I've already done races in both of those cities. I'd like to do one someplace I haven't before. I have done Columbus but that is just on the list in case I want to do one close to home. It is only a 2 hour drive away.

I hope they fix the problems for next year. They sure aren't the first race to make sure the boring part of the full is on the second half. I see a lot of races that make the fun part the first half for the people only doing that half.

Thanks for the info.

Like the previous posters stated, it is a flat course, and the highway miles were very difficult because of very little crowd support. The headwind was difficult as well, but that wasn't the organizers fault.

I too stayed near I-95 and took the shuttle in from the Mall. It was very disorganized to even get into the mall at 5:30AM (very heavy traffic) and while the buses were plentiful and loaded quickly, none of the drivers knew where to go (someone said that they were brought in from jacksonville).

Instead of heading East towards the city, out driver headed west, passed the highway to head into the city, all the way out to I95, then went I95 north to the airport exit, then drove in on the same highway he didn't get on near the mall. I got on a shuttle at 5:50AM and did not get to the drop off point until 7:10.

I had just enough time to visit the bathroom, drop my bag at bag check and get into my corral. I heard stories after the race of runners that did not make it to the starting area until almost 8AM for a 7:30 AM race start.

I am sure that the logistics will work better for next year, as this was the first year, and the Mall shuttle parking was a last minute add on when the organizers realized there wasn't going to be enough parking near the start.

All that being said, I enjoyed the race and the city, and would consider running it again next year.
