Riviera RESALE usable at other FUTURE DVC resorts???

I don't think Disney is looking to kill resales. That would lower the true value of buying DVC at all. One of the biggest advantages of DVC is that it holds its value if you ever need to sell.
Personally, I would probably not buy resale unless it was exactly what I was looking for, use year, points, resort and price. I want to be able to use it at all the resorts and Moonlight Magic events if they ever come back.
The value of resale has nothing to do with the direct prices. There are thousands of timeshares that have high direct prices but you can buy resale pennies on the dollar if not for free if you take over the contract and maintenance fees.

While the resale restrictions seem to be more restrictive for Riviera owners right now, it will get more and more restrictive for the O14 as time passes. Right now, there are 14 other resorts for the resale buyer to trade into. In 2043, there will be only 9 for the resale buyer to trade into, and probably 14+ resorts for the direct buyer to trade into. In 2067, the Copper Creek resale buyer can only book at Copper Creek and will be competing with the direct buyers at 7 months.
Wow, I never thought of it this way! We wanted CCV thinking we love the resort and that we wanted the furthest out contract as to not have to pay the purchase price sooner, but our son will be restricted with options since we went with resale like you are talking. Although we are still waiting on ROFR decision. Hmmm my wheels are spinning now. I wish we had pulled the trigger a few years ago since we only want 100 pts and the min is 150 now. Ugh. :scared:

Nor had I! We bought CCV partly because we knew we wanted to keep on going to the Wilderness Lodge after our BRV expired, and I'll only be 65 when it does. But I hadn't thought about the fact that after PVB expires in January 2066, the CCV resale contracts (a little more than half our CCV points) can only be used at CCV. Which for us doesn't matter, if we're still using it then, and hopefully if our kids have it, they'll be okay with it, too! But we do have direct points at both CCV and RIV, and CCV does expire in 2068, so it's not a long time it is the only resort resale points can be used at.

I was replying to the statement that Disney was trying to kill resales. One of the biggest things that separates DVC is the fact that you are not stuck with a worthless contract if you decide to sell. I understand that a lot of people are not aware of the resale market, but DVC is.

I agree that their intent is not to kill resale. They profit off the resale market through ROFR. They are just looking for ways to differentiate buying direct versus buying resale. With many of previous perks gone, this (non-restricted points) is their way to differentiate going forward.
