I have been getting increasingly frustrated by the quality (or lack of) in the Fruit Veg departments of my local superstores. We don't have a greengrocer locally we could use - would have to go into Exeter for that.

So, we are giving the above a try. They deliver to your home once a week a box of veggies and / or fruit and other nice bits and pieces.

Our first box arrived and it is stuffed full of lovely veg. The fruit is delicious (though not as "pretty" as Tesco's) and the eggs made the most delicious omlette DH had ever tasted. And believe me, that isn't down to my cooking ;)

So we are pretty happy so far :)

Anyone else tried this? What did you think?

Are they local to you, Karen, or is it a national firm?

I'm very keen to give something like this a go, but the only local supplier here has a waiting list as long as your arm - it's almost as bad as trying to find a dentist! ;)

We've been to the Farm Shop, but have not tried the boxes of fruit and veggies. I know lots of people at work that get them though and they are all happy enough.

My problem is that I'm incredibly fussy when it comes to fruit and veg and I like a good rummage and a feel before I select anything to put in our basket. I just don't think I would be comfortable with someone else pre-selecting the produce and then delivering it to me :(

Hilary, they are based in Buckfastleigh which is in South Devon so probably about 20 miles away from me (halfway to Alan & Kaylee's ;) ) but I had the impression there were similar outfits nationally? It sounds not from what you say :(

Alan, I totally understand what you mean and I am similar to that - but I am trying to see this as an adventure and maybe try things I never would have done otherwise.

We shall see if I am still saying this in a few weeks' time ;)

I have fancied doing that myself but like alan i like to see what i'm buying first.

Hilary-I believe there is quite a a few that do this service nationally, though i can't think of any companies off the top of my head i'm sure a search would come up with some.

I'll have to do a bit more delving locally then ...

There was an article on Radio 4 at lunchtime today (food programme?) about veggie boxes, maybe the BBC website would have some info.

Hi,

My neighbour and I used to get these boxes delivered and we live in Southampton, so they will deliver further afield. They have a web-site http://www.riverford.co.uk/en/ where you can find a local scheme. Hopefully there is something near you.

Hilary, they do seem to cover a small part of south Wales......not sure if it's exactly where you live though!
