Thanks to all who recommended the River Roost at POR and its piano player Bob Jackson. We went there last week and he was great.

It's amazing how many songs he knows. He was akways asjubg fir requests, and I don't think he was stumped once. If you go, bring a list of funny obscure songs. I am sure he will know them.

He was great with the kids. He played all kinds of kids songs even sponge bob square pants.

As was mentioned in other threads, he always says, have fun, you'll never see these people again. That's only if you go without your DW. She was taking pictures and notes for furture blackmailing I am sure:D

We recently stayed at POR and I didn't know about River Roost Bob at the time. :( We are going back and might like to stop by on one of our "days off". What time does he play? Is he still doing this even with all the closures?

He plays Wednesday thru Saturday 8:30 to 12:00. He was playing a little over a week ago when we were there.

I am SO glad you enjoyed his show. He is very funny and talented.

I am probably his biggest fan in the Chicago area. Last year we bought his CD and we play it often, its almost like you are there. I know what you mean about the DW taking pictures. She takes many of me and shows the family how Bob really gets me going. Bob gets me to "let my hair down."

Jumping up and down, rolling around on the floor, running around the room and last Thanksgiving Night I was doing silouettes ( hope I spelled that right) to the " 5 Golden Rings" in the 12 days of XMAS song.

He gets everyone involved in his show. As I have said before, for those of you who have seen Bob, you know what a great time it is. For thosae who have not seen him...you have no idea what you are missing.

Did you leave Bob your e-mail address ? He puts you on his mailing list and sends you monthly updates.

His phrase..."you'll never see these people again" has become a phrase we use often in our family when we do something crazy or out of the ordinary.

We can't wait until our August trip. We are VERY happy that POR is keeping him on stage during the renovations. I thnk they learned from their mistake after 9-11 when they took him off stage.

My fiance and my kids and I say this all the time thanks to Bob!

We have found that it definitely doesn't hold true for us though, we're locals and are there every couple of weeks...and often times we DO see some of those people again! You would be surprised how many locals frequent his show! :bounce:
We're more wallflowers...I believe that the ones who should be up there getting involved and making fools of themselves SHOULD be the tourists! They're on vacation...they should let their hair down! :)

Whether you're staying at POR or anywhere else, you should definitely take an evening and go catch his show...the kids will LOVE it, as will the grownups! We're so glad he's still "home" at POR and we'll do our part to keep him there! :)

My kids are away for the month visiting their father and my fiance has to work late the next couple of nights, I may be the one alone sitting there at POR tonight and/or tomorrow night...I'm THAT comfortable being there!
Thanks, Bob! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Assuming Disney doesn't lay him off again, then yeah, I'm sure he'll be there! I think the only reason he'd not be there is if they did that and he found something else...I know he enjoys it there.

It's nice to love your job! :)

In December he changes his show to include holiday songs, etc.

His version of the 12 Days of Christmas is priceless....as kinggoofy can attest to, I'm sure! :)

Karen,

I think the 12 Days of Xmas is his best. Its the only song that ALMOST everyone in the crowd has a part.

In fact, I am thinking about requesting it in August....but DW does not want me to embarrass her.

But the holiday songs are priceless.

In fact, Janet2K...(where are you ?? ) has a nice picture of Bob that she has posted here before.

Can't say I've heard him do anything "holiday" any other time of year...I'll have to ask him tonight...

I can see a definite loophole here...just let me know when you're coming and I'll have one of my kids request it...of course, they'd dedicate it to you...but at least YOU won't have been the one requesting it! LOL

As if a grown man publicly doing a ballet move to the tune of "five golden rings" wasn't embarrassing enough...??? LOL Seems to me you set the bar pretty low for that fear! ;)

YEEEHAAA!!!

Karen

We will be at POR from August 14 - 24th AND November 26 - 30th. (Not soon enough)

If you go tonight or anytime this weekend...

PLEASE tell Bob, Pete & Paula from Chicago send a BIG HELLO. !!!!!!

It really wans't embarrassing....REMEMBER...I will never see those people again !!!!! LOL (Thats my story and I am sticking to it.)

But the idea of your kids requesting it sounds GREAT !!!!
DW will think there is somebody just as crazy as me out there.

In fact , right now I am listening to " Poor Charlie" from Boston song.

Thanks a bunch.

I'm thinking it might be fun to plan on this for an evening's outing. Is there a good restaurant at POR? Or will it be closed during the renovations? Is there a no-smokng section where Bob Jackson plays?

Boatwrights is next to the lounge. I don't know about smoking non smoking sections in the lounge. I didn't notice any smoking when I was there, but I can't believe it is a no smoking lounge.

Ed

We'll be at the Polynesian this Aug. but will be making a trip over to POR to see Bob!!! He is just terrific. ANd it will be nice to see one of our favorite resorts again too.

This are no "Non-Smoking" areas in the River Roost.

Boatwrights is right next door and me and DW think its one of the more "overlooked" places to eat on Disney property.

You'll get a good dinner there then head over to Bob.

On the other hand....we started doing this 2 years ago.
We sat in the lounge and ordered appetizers and steak sandwiches during Bob's show. The steak sandwiches are VERY good.

I think I'm Bob's biggest fan on the West Coast (how 'bout that, KingGoofy?!). Okay, I'm the second biggest fan -- my young daughter is his BIGGEST fan!

Click here to view a photo of the gorgeous Bob Jackson!

A bunch of Dis’ers (myself included) wrote letters to Disney a month or two ago regarding our fear that Bob Jackson would be let go due to the downturn in the economy (we were afraid that past history would repeat itself). I was very pleased to have received a phone message from the WDW Executive Offices stating that Disney had no intention of letting Bob go, especially during the Port Orleans' refurbishments. Yahoo!!

I can't wait to see Bob during my vacation this Fall. And I can't wait to share him with the rest of my family & friends (last Fall, it was just my young daughter & myself on our "Mother-Daughter Vacation" who got to experience Bob's show). Bob Jackson is quite an entertainer and he really knows how to get the crowd going. He even had me conga'ing through the lounge with the rest of the crazy vacationers. Of course, I made sure that everyone in the lounge did NOT take photos or video of my conga-dance, so the truth to the rumors that I am one wild woman while vacationing at WDW are unsubstantiated... Unsubstantiated, I tell you… ;)

Hi Janet2K

You are hereby notified that you and DD are the #1 & #2 fans of Bob's on the West Coast.

( In fact, it may have been you who blew my "cover' during the Thanksgiving weekend last year. )

I have the Midwest covered.

I was the one who started the thread to email Disney about Bob back in March. We also got a call from the "Honchos" saying that Bob will be on stage.

Bob emails his fans who left their email addresses with him.
He gives them a schedule of his upcoming month. From his emails, it sounds as is the River Roost is " rockin and rolling" .

More than a great entertainer....he truly is a GREAT person. He comes out and meets the crowd 2 or 3 times every show. he works very hard.

August can't come soon enough. THEN Thanksgiving can't come soon enough.

Janet, when are you going in the fall ?

Kinggoofy (aka, KingConga ;) ), I'm not on Bob's e-mail list, so kindly PM me with what I need to do in order to get on it. Does Bob publish his schedule in monthly or quarterly increments? I will be at WDW at the end of Oct / beginning of Nov and am really hoping that Bob will be around (I don't want him vacationing the same time that I'm vacationing ;) ).

I know that Port Orleans - French Quarter is down for rehab, but I don't know what the Port Orleans - Riverside rehab schedule is. Does anyone know if the building that the restaurant/lounge is in will be going down for rehab?

Hi Janet

Bob's email address is yehaabob@yahoo.com

He sends a monthly e-mail. For May and June he stated that he is putting on his best show. The crowds are great and the River Roost is " rockin & rollin".

Also, he tells you of the other hotels and clubs around WDW he plays at.

From what he sad in his May and June emails...1/2 of the resort is closed. Is that only the FQ half or 1/2 of POR. ??? I don't know.

But you, me and others have gotten the call regarding his status at the River Roost. It sounds like they are not even thinking about taking him off stage. THEY BETTER BE RIGHT !!!!

I think I PM'd you...but I was not sure if it went thru.

KingGoofy....( AKA Pete.....NOT King Conga....Last Thanksgiving it was me and someone named Vinny from Alabama who were Bob's two Goofs that he knew would do crazy things. BUT we were never going to see those people again. At least thats what he said.....) :)

We saw him when we were there in June last year and really enjoyed the show. DD met a guy there and his parents invited us to go along. We usually don't enjoy things like this - but he was great. He even dedicated "Summer Loving" to DD and her new friend. I have never posted I picture before so I am not sure if this will work. This is a pic I got somewhere on the web - here goes....

Hey KingGoofy...we went to see Bob last Thursday night, unfortunately, I didn't see your message about who to say Hi to him from, but I did pose the question...."so...if a guest requested the 12 days of Christmas in August...would you play it? " Bob was quite amused by this, said nobody ever had...but said, "heck, yeah (I'm quoting loosely here! ) I'd play it...sure!" :bounce:

Now, I can still have my kids request it...but I can't say your DW won't be embarrassed by it still! ;)

The place was hopping, too...which was good to see! There seemed to be a good amount of people there and in the food court area. I wish they would re-open the rib/chicken counter, but it was closed even before they shut down part of the resort again, so maybe not. :(

Anyway, quick question...do you have the email that gives his schedule for this month? I didn't save mine to my filing cabinet for some reason. I know he plays at the Gaylord Palms sometimes and I'm wondering if tonight is one of those times. I've never been there to see him (it's a more adult crowd) and my fiance is working late, I thought I might stop in since it's just up the street.

I'm also bumping this....gotta get the word out to those at other resorts...it's worth the trek over to POR to see Bob...do it!!! :) :) :)
