We just booked a short stay at Kidani 4th of July week. We haven't stayed at AKL since its first year. AKL that is, not Kidani. I'm struggling with planning the parks. For example, I think it's problematic too plan MK for the 4th itself. What would be a recommended alternative? Epcot?

In addition, that they're shifting Animal Kingdom to a night park too, although I'm unsure of the timing for this makes me think it might be an alternative. For example how or should one take in Rivers of Light?

What about Hollywood Studios?

I would suggest checking here for what park to do each day (although of course if you want to see fireworks on the 4th, you'll have to go to a non-recommended park):

Since Rivers of Light hasn't started yet (nor has a starting date been announced), it's an unknown entity at this point.

We were there this past July and Magic Kingdom does the 4th of July fireworks on the 3rd and 4th. We did Magic Kingdom on the 3rd (not too crowded) and did Epcot on the 4th. Both parks were doable and not too bad crowd-wise (to us at least). It's a good way to still get to see the fireworks but avoid the most crowded park (MK) on the holiday. I think if we go again for this holiday, we'll do it the same way.

Certainly Epcot has more room to disperse crowds. I'd vote for Epcot on the 4th.

What about Hollywood Studios?

We watched the fireworks at DHS one year on the fourth and they were surprisingly awesome. The crowds are intense at any park that day, however, we had no problem viewing the firework show at DHS and still talk about how great they were.
