What ever happened to River Country?? Does anyone know? It just seemed to disappear "off the map"!
We visited in the mid 90's when we were staying 'on site', and it was a great little water park.

Oh I agree, we loved visiting River Country when we first went in 2000, and I was so dissapointed to find that it had closed down when we returned in 2004, I dont know if they have done anything with it or what plans they may have. :goodvibes

Disney give the official line that the two waterparks they have open are sufficient for guests' swimming needs :)

I have heard though (rumour only) there were health concerns over swimming in the lake and due to liability concerns this is also why they closed it - how true that is though I just don't know!

ewww.. thats not great!
I didnt realise how tiny it was...

Still I never really "got" River Country. Something about the green murky water made me feel weird!!

I loved River Country. We visited it in 1999 and I really enjoyed it. Think this is the reason why I have never visited the other two water parks.

What a waste :confused3

Oh Florence, you must! Typhon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach are such good fun :)

River Country was always a park that we ment to visit but never got around to & now it's too late! Although I don't doubt WDw's official line about filtration,I would suspect that money has a lot to do with it! On our trip before last TL & BB took turns to be closed over weekends, all due to falling attendance, therefore if attendance is down for 3 parks it's a lot easier to make 2 busy!!
SD :firefight

I have heard of people getting close to it RC, on the lake, and it is not looking too good at all :( There were rumours about it being moderised ad turned into an Pirate themed water park but haven't heard anything for quite a while.

Yes that is true they could no longer filter it because that was causing lake problems and bacteria in the lake was making it's way into RC here's a link to what it looks like now.

Click on the larger buildings and get a closer look

Thank you so much for that link! It's great!!! Thought just about nothing could surprise about WDW etc, but that map site is brilliant. Hours of fun! Much better than mapquest.
I know, I'm sad. But just found the log cabin we stayed in last year (probably!)
Thanks again, dw will be pleased, keeps me out of trouble!
