RIV vs CCV direct

Here I am once again contemplating direct points. With CCV on the market for direct and assuming it won’t last past 2/9, wondering if it’s a good idea to pull the trigger on CCV 150-200 to get the blue card over RIV.

Comparatively it seems CCV seems like the better value over time. Unsure of the current pp price but know it’s higher than Riv as of now.

Otherwise CCV seems to have the edge on resale value, annual dues, and points chart. The only thing holding me back is occupancy.

We have a family of 5 and with CCVs occupancy at 4 besides the 2br.

Can anyone help me make it make sense to buy CCV direct over RIV for a family of 5? Occasionally we’ll use the 2 bedroom option but realistically studios or 1 bedrooms would be ideal for us due to points

I don't think the 1BR vs. 2BR will help you. For example, RIV's 1BRs for a week in Season 6 are 321/391. CCV's 2BRs are 362. Pretty much a wash. Yes, the Resort view 1BRs at RIV are a little bit less, but they also only have one bathroom.

I'd buy the one you love. If you don't love either, CCV is fine.

Hard one since RIV only has 2 years on CCV. CCV is a real rockstar if you really sit back and take a look at it. But CCV is more money upfront and that sleeping situation can be hard for families of 5. If you can get past the sleeping surface issue Id say CCV

With CCV, I feel like we would be pigeonholed to only a 2BR while at RIV we’d at least have options on points. Would like CCV just hard to justify it with our family.

Then as long as you are okay with owning a resort that you would later sell as restricted, thus potentially selling for less than CCV then you should buy RIV.

I guess what I was trying to say was: the RIV 1BR does not save you much over the CCV 2BR, and that's only with Resort View. With Preferred View, RIV 1BR costs more than CCV 2BR.

It does save some, I suppose. But unless I loved RIV, I would not want to cram five people into a 1BR there (or, for that matter, most any of the other 1BRs, but that's just me.)

If I had to choose a 2 bed vs a 1 bed for the same pint cost its 2 bed every time! Man CCV has a good point chart!

Have you stayed at both? If not, it may be worth doing that (although I understand the window to CCV direct may be closing). I love and own both - but the RIV 2 bedroom is one of the best in all DVC imho. After staying in one last summer, we promptly bought an additional contract just to upgrade our stays there.

We love the RR, but the point charts are high. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and we enjoy the restaurant choices. But a restricted resort wouldn’t interest us. We have some extra points to use this year since we didn’t visit in 2025 (we’re already booked for a 10-day October trip). I just roll my eyes when I see RR’s point charts vs other resorts for the time periods we’re looking at. It always surprises me for some reason. It’s a lovely place, but CCV is also a great choice at a gorgeous resort.

The price difference right now between CCV and RIV resale isn’t that far apart.

No idea what will happen in the future but it does seem that they could remain that way?

I think what hurts CCV IMO is that you have to do a 2 bedroom for more than 4.

And they have a big studio problem. But, in the end, I think one still should buy which ever one they’d prefer to be at!

So, with a family of 5, you gotta go to 2 BRs at CCV. At RIV, you can stay in studios and up. If you're comparing 1 BRs at RIV to 2 BRs at CCV, I think CCV wins. But, if you're comparing studios at RIV to 2 BRs at CCV, then I think RIV wins.

So, if you think you will realistically be ok and/or want to book studios pretty regularly, I think you go with RIV. Resort view studios, you definitely need to own at RIV and even preferred view studio availability is not all that great at the 7-month mark.

I dont follow RIV but I see CCV selling 130-150 often and I thought RIV was around 115 but I could be wrong.

I would 100% be buying CCV over Riviera in your scenario. Lots of great points above; I especially agree with Brian.

Also…Wilderness Lodge is magnificent. And you can take a boat there. Those are major pluses for me personally.

Fidelity has RIV at $115 - $125 and CCV at $136 - $149

Site sponsor, for December, has RIV at $118 and CCV at $139.

So, maybe, on average, about $20 more per point for CCV than RIV? TBH, I think CCV is undervalued given the length of contract, the dues, and the ability to exchange into O14 resorts. I feel like RIV is about right given the length of contract and the inability to exchange anywhere. Maybe a little bit of a bump for RIV once it sells out? I guess we'll see.

Still, if you're buying and planning to keep into a post-2042 world, I don't think resale value should play much of a role between CCV and RIV. PVB is probably the better WDW bet if resale value is your primary concern.

Yeah I thought I was quoting accurately when I responded. I follow CCV very closely

We were in the same place in 2019 when CCV and RIV were in active sales. We planned on trying to do studios most of the time so that was one of a few reasons we ended up at RIV. Then a funny thing happened, with covid and less travel after it, we ended up with a bunch of points that had to be used so we decided to splurge on a RIV 2 BR...yeah, there is no going back from that beautiful and spacious room! LOL
