I couldn't believe the headline when I first read about it. He still seemed so full of life in the Spinal Tap sequel.

I admired Rob Reiner’s talent and was shocked to hear the news of the murders. Such an incredibly sad situation for the family. Substance abuse too often ends in tragedy.

I pictured him being around for many more years -- his dad lived such a long life -- so tragic that his life was taken in this way. At work this morning, we were talking about it and one of my male co-workers who is a few years older than me (around 60), had no idea who he was which I thought was mind boggling. I started with his Meathead role, Spinal Tap, all of these films he directed and produced and was still clueless. May he and his wife rest in peace.

Just awful. I just saw an interview with him a couple months ago. I couldn't believe he was 78.
Very funny and engaging.

At our performing arts theatre we saw earlier this year a screening of Princess bride with a live talk back with Cary. He was so lovely and funny. He told stories of them making the film. They had to get Andre the giant an ATV because he couldn’t navigate the hills easily when filming because he was always in pain from his size, but he would drive them crazy zooming around everybody in it. He said he told his family he wants “Mostly Dead” to be written on his tombstone.

My favorite, too. It was his second collaboration with Aaron Sorkin. Their first, "A Few Good Men," gets more attention, but I absolutely love TAP. (And, of course, the subsequent TV series inspired by it.)

Another bit of trivia about Rob Reiner I learned today… he wrote the pilot episode of Happy Days. Ron Howard mentioned that in his tribute to him.
