Hello me and my husband would love to visit the caves at Rio Secreto but our youngest child is 3 and is to small to go. Has anyone left their children on the chip while doing this?? All of mine will be in the same kids club together. We never get out or have any date nights at home so we thought this would be fun but worry about leaving the kids?

Yes, people leave their kids in the kid's club while doing excursions. There are some who don't (won't). It's entirely up to you, the parent, and your comfort level.

I'd be more inclined to worry less about doing it as long as I'm on a DCL excursion. Because, that way DCL knows where I am, and I'm more reachable.

This is our personal choice, but we would never leave the kids on the vessel alone. Just to many odd things can happen both on board a ship and ashore.

We haven't, but I'm sure you can. It just depends on what you're comfortable doing. You'll be unreachable while in the caves so if something happens to your children during that time, you'll have to wait (and you won't know).

I would make sure I was on a DCL sponsored excursion though. That way, you would be guaranteed to get back to the ship before it leaves port. It's obviously rare, but if you were delayed, and the ship left...well, your kids would be on a cruise ship in international waters without you.

We have! More than once too. And would do it again with Disney. The first time we had not intended to but one of our children (6 at the time) begged. And begged. And begged. Did not want to get off the ship. Got to where it was we all stay on the ship or leave him in the kids club. Had we stayed on the ship he would have wanted to go to the kids club anyway. Apparantly there was something in there pulling him, "this great game called Disney infinity. " So we left him, and they said no problem. They take note of the fact that you will not be on the ship and tell you that they will not be able to contact you. Well, after exiting the ship and walking about five minutes, another one of our children (8 at the time) informed us he wanted to go back to the kids club. Should have left him too when he asked but we talked him out of it. She we took him back, checked him into the kids club and got off the ship again.

I was one of those people who said I would never leave our children on the ship, but on our cruise last week we left our 7yo on the ship at Key West. We had no plans there and really were just walking around. She was desperate to stay in the club, so we eventually figured that was preferable to her complaining and being stroppy the whole time we were off the ship.

We only walked up Duval Street and back, so the risk of anything happening was very low. I'm not sure we would do it if we were planning to be gone for a long time, or if we were doing a 'riskier' excursion, but that's just our own personal comfort level. Lots of people leave their kids onboard and the counsellors are used to it.

I agree with the comments about it being a DCL excursion so they know where you are.

My concern would only be with this particular excursion but its because when we did it we took a ferry to another area. I can't say I wouldn't do it cause this ferry seemed to run frequently but I would want to do much more research on how often it is canceled due to inclement weather or something and what the other return options are.
