Ringing in the New Year - Jan '12 TR - UPDATED Sept 4 I BROKE MY FOOT**

Oh we know all about that being so close to Detroit, we always have US friends coming over for sporting events, the ultimate divide :rotfl:.
Our parents were just in Calgary last week they said it was beautiful.

We have always wanted to visit Chigaco, I really want to go to the aquarium, maybe this summer will be our chance.

We are actually headed to the exact same spot where your Dad is standing on the 4th of July - excited to be headed "home" for a few days :cloud9:

I hope you guys will make it out to Chicago sometime - it's a beautiful city! If you need any info - just let me know :)

Thanks so much, we are keeping our eyes peeled for some cheap flights right now.

Oh my goodness a Flynn Rider bus:love: I see why she was so excited!! Does anyone know what those buses are actually ever for when they have names like that? Well besides to make me super happy when a cool character bus ends up picking us up!

Glad to hear the Osborne lights were still going. We saw them in 2011 and it was amazing. I feel that pictures and video truly can't capture the magic of seeing the lights in person. :santa:

I have no idea what they are for, we didn't see the named buses very often. This was like a sign, for us that this was our bus and time to go home :rotfl:

Oh I agree 100%, we had seen them in many pictures before but actually standing underneath them was so beautiful, it brought tears to our moms eyes
she is a huge Christmas fan.

CHAPTER 8 – A BLUSTERY DAY

Day 2 - Morning Weather 41 °F

Danielle and I rolled out of bed at 7:10 to Stacy on the TV, she is so happy in the morning, she really gets us going. We bundled up in nearly all the sweaters and jackets we had brought with us and made our way over to our parent’s room.
They were not ready yet so Danielle and I went down to the Riverside Mill food court.

dscf3797d.jpg

We opted for our usually breakfast, the bounty platter no sausage bacon only with Mickey waffles
(they also had a station which served the same but with french toast sticks instead).
We got Smart Water as our CS beverage of choice and we brought our refillable cups

dscf3798v.jpg

Danielle filled hers with hot chocolate.

dscf3801r.jpg

I opted for a more fruity choice, cherry coke, after all a cherry is a fruit.

dscf3800c.jpg

Our parents joined us with a cinnamon roll and coffee in their refillable mugs, they are not too big on breakfast, but they said this pastry was flakey and delicious.
We finished up and headed the the bus stop for a chilly 10 mins wait.

We got going and made it to EPCOT just in time for park opening at 9:00. We made a beeline for Test Track to get FP’s and then ride… BAD NEWS the fast pass machines were down due to cold. Thankfully there was a CM there giving out passes as long as you had your park tickets or room keys, we hoped in line and got 4 FPs to come back later. Once we got inside we saw an old friend, Bill. Some of you may remember him from the last TR, it was nice to see a familiar face.
We snapped some pics while we waited in line.

After we had had our fill of TT in the chilly morning air we walked over to the land to ride one of my favourite rides, Living with the Land.

disney20122437.jpg

Danielle also enjoys this ride but mostly because she says it smells so good, today her choice phrase was "the doors are going to open and it is going to smell GOOD!", she loves the smell of swimming pools and chlorine and thinks that this boat ride smells like heaven.

I just love Living with the Land - I think all the different methods they use to grow plants is so interesting. Every time we go I always tell myself we should do the behind the seeds tour, it just has never happened yet.

Afterwards we hit up Figments, it was having some issues when we arrived because it was so windy outside a side door had opened up, I believe it was a fire exit, and the ride would not run without the door being closed. The closed down the ride for a few minutes so a CM could do out to secure the door, in this time everyone got out of line

Now we were first

After Figment went back to TT to use our FP as well as acquire new ones.

While we waited for the World Showcase to open we snapped some 'girls only pics'.

My mom and I cried too when we were standing under the Osborne Lights . I am glad to hear we weren't the only ones.

I loved your Minnie Mouse nail polish when you were showing off your Cherry Coke.

Thank you! Danielle had sparkle Tangled nails except her yellow nail polish was too pale to show up against he dark purple sparkles.
I am trying to think of something different for this time when I go but Minnie nails are always look cute.

I just love those mittens, plus they look so warm! Did you guys find them in the Canadian pavilion? I’m sure they were selling out of them if it was that cold out!

No sorry, those mittens are from the Hudsen Bay Company, they sell alot of our olympic clothings. They made similar mittens for the winter olympics in 2010 and have made a variation of the mitten every year since, we get a new pair every year. This was the 2012 mitten with the maple leaf on the palm.
There are some fabulous ear muffs coming upin the TR that I considered buying in EPCOT but I refrained and instead frozen my ears.

Awwwww well that's disappointing for Canada loving American's like myself. We don’t live too far from Vancouver and everything always looks so pretty there. The Canadian pavilion should really look into getting those!

The Canadian pavilion did have some gorgeous animal hats while I was in there last time, they were pretty funny.
Maybe there is a suggestion box and I can recommend the mittens.
I always thought of Florida as a sunny warm place so it was just lucky that we actually brought the mittens with us, we would have had some cold little fingers without them :cold:.
If we ever go again in the winter time we will be better prepared.

Ya that's a good thing to know. When we went a few years ago in January it was still warm out; but it certainly does not sound like that was the case for you this year. I'll make sure to pack some layers for our next winter trip.

I'm new to your TR but am all caught up now :thumbsup2 Love the pictures of Port Orleans Riverside. So glad you got a refurbed room! We're staying there this year and I can't wait.

If you have any tips about a early September trip it is appreciated. Our next trip is the 2nd week of September and I am dying to know how hot it will really be when we are there.

Oh Welcome, Welcome!! It's nice to hear from new people all the time.
We loved POR it was a nice quite resort, the main pool had alot of action but the smaller pool closer to our room was always empty.
Hopefully by the time you get there all the referbs will be finished, it is so exciting staying in a nice fresh Disney room.

CHAPTER 9 – OH CANADA, OUR HOME AND NATIVE LAND

disney20122463.jpg

It was now 11 o'clock and in true Disney fashion we scooted on over to the World Showcase. It was still pretty chilly, especially in the shade, so Danielle was shocked when she noticed the popsicle stand was not open

dscf3829t.jpg

"Disney, why you no sell me popsicle?" :confused3

We made our way through Mexico

disney20122472.jpg

disney20122473.jpg

China

dscf3830g.jpg

Almost picked up these awesome little puppies (or pandas if you will), it was so cold I thought my ears were going to fall off.

and onward to our destination…

disney20122477.jpg

dscf3834z.jpg

GERMANY!!!

We had one thing on our mind right now and that was yummy caramel. We entered Karamell Küche and were hit with a delicious aroma which no description can do justice to.

dscf3831h.jpg

dscf3832.jpg

After browsing the variety of treats they had to offer, Danielle and I almost settled on this little devil...

dscf3833n.jpg

But then we decided on the Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookie – HEAVEN :cloud9:

dscf3855y.jpg

It was so moist and chewy and soft and yummy and sweet…. Oh I could go on.

Mom and Dad opted to split a Dark Chocolate Caramel with Sea Salt

dscf3854e.jpg

We noticed it was time for our dining reservations at Le Cellier so we packed away our treats to save for later and headed toward the great white north aka Canada.

Hey! I'm joining in (a little late). I'm really enjoying your TR! I'm sorry it was so cold for yall, I can't even imagine!

Oh, and by the way, Happy Canada Day! :thumbsup2 Can't wait for more!

After reading how cold your trip was and seeing how crowded some of the background pics were, we changed our dates for January 2013 to the second week in January. Now we are going January 5-12, 2013.

I have been thinking about your nails, what about Cinderella with white our silver and blue stripes?

Thank you, happy upcoming 4th of July ( I looked all over for an American emoticon but there was none ) :teeth:

It was pretty crowded, my parents decided we probably wouldn't go back again immediately following New Years.
I think switching the date was a good idea, it warmed up considerably at the end of our trip and the crowds thinned out nicely.
Also I think last year the HWS lights were still up until the 7th so you will get to see those still too :)

Cinderella nails are a great idea, you could almost do like a french tip kind of design, I love that look it's so classic.

Yes, I can picture French Cinderella nails.

Thanks for the info on the lights, I hope they are still up for our trip.
