CHAPTER 4 – DISNEY VACATION CLUB

TEMP - 65 ° F ORLANDO, FLORIDA

We exited the airport and were greeted with sunny, but brisk Florida weather. It was a nice change from chilly Windsor. We drove down the highway and were ecstatic when we saw this little guy; it’s always nice to see a familiar face.

Luckily our stop at Port Orleans Riverside was this first stop on the Magical Express. Danielle and Dad waited for the luggage so Dad wouldn’t be part of the mad rush for check-in; he liked to pace himself for this trip on account of his illness. Mom and I went to check into our rooms. When we got inside there was a bit of a line up, even for the online check-in we waited about 20 minutes. While we waited in line, Dad and Danielle took some pictures of the large tree in the Port Orleans Riverside lobby.

Once it was our turn to check-in, Mom and I clarified our room location, that they were in fact refurbished, and that they were adjoining. We asked numerous times and got a 'yes' on all accounts. When we got to the rooms we discovered that 2 out of 3 wasn’t bad, I guess. When we asked for adjoining we meant that they adjoined together, not just that our rooms had doors to someone else’s room in which if we chose could be adjoining. We were in Alligator Bayou - Building 38. We headed through the beautiful scenary at the Port Orleans resort as fast as our little legs could carry us. Dad paused for some pictures. Danielle spent her time chatting it up with the Disney Vacation Club guy, she just asked one small question and then all of a sudden he is trying to sell her the whole package. When we finally rescued Danielle it was time to go to our room, the Vacation Club guy was disappointed to see her go.

:cheer2: EXCITING REAL LIFE UP-DATE :cheer2:

I am happy to announce that although Danielle will be busy this upcoming Disney season, I most certainly will not and to celebrate...

I WILL BE RETURNING TO DISNEY WORLD!!

I have finally talked my DBF into going to the world instead of a cruise. This will be his first trip to Disney world as he was extremely deprived as a child and only went on boring hockey trips.

We will be staying at....

I have already made ADR in anticipation of our exciting trip at...

And new, even for me...
capemay.jpg

We will be going once school starts, from September 8-13 and will be celebrating our anniversary there September 11. Althought Danielle is a tad bit jealous, she is excited for us.

Can't wait to see you all there :goodvibes.
Let me know what you think of the ADR, I am nervous for Cape May as I am not a huge fish person however John is.
Has anyone been recently? Is there more than just fish?

Hope everyone is enjoying reading along. Since I have another trip coming up in the near future I am trying to get this TR wrapped up as quickly as possible. Sometimes it feels a little lonely on here, but I'm use to talking to myself anyway. My last post had some questions about Cape May Cafe so if there are any experts out there, let me know what you think.
Anyhow... On with the show

::yes:: CHAPTER 5 – GOING DOWN THE BAYOU ::yes::

We were in room 3818, for those of you that are unfamiliar it is the first building to the right after the get off the bridge to the left of the main swimming pool. It was about a 5 minute walk from the bus stop to the room which wasn't bad at all.

dscf4284j.jpg

The room was fabulous; it still smelled like paint when we walked in, that’s how you know it is really fresh. The carpet was so cute; it looked like wooden floor boards.

dscf3709t.jpg

Danielle went to work snapping up pictures of the room before we made ourselves at home.

dscf3698h.jpg

dscf3701c.jpg

Everything in these rooms has the magical touch of Disney, right down to the fridge.

dscf3703q.jpg

dscf3704i.jpg

The double sink in this room was a savour for us since Danielle and I are both early risers, we like to get ready at the same time (like how Danielle got me in that sink picture). Danielle always takes the right sink because she is right handed, and me the left because I am a lefty.

dscf3705b.jpg

We turned on the TV and Stacey was there to greet us with her happy Disney voice.

dscf3708y.jpg

We were tempted to give this trundle bed a whirl but it was just too hard to give up a queen sized bed all to myself, plus you cannot see the TV from this location in the room.

dscf3697iy.jpg

Once we were all settled in and unpacked we started to decorate our window with our stickers and decorations from home. The window clings didn’t work out as well as we had hoped since they were intended for a mirror or something one wayed instead, but they got the job done just the same.

dscf3711p.jpg

As you may have guessed before, our room did have an adjoining door, it just wasn’t to our parent’s room (which ended up working out okay), but for the time being we had to walk all around the building to get to their room on the other side, 3816. Once everyone was settled in we realized we were starving and were ready to start our day at the happiest place on earth.

Subbing in! I am staying at POR next year and can't wait to read your TR!

Thanks for joining in :woohoo:. We had a great time at POR, the pool is beautiful, if you get a chance to enjoy it I highly recommend it. The hottub on the other hand always seemed to be a little crowded.

I've been following along! I'm so in love with that carpet! I kinda want it for my apartment! :goodvibes

Thanks :yay: I know right, I am in total love with the carpet too, all the beauty of hardwood and the comfort of carpet, Disney always has it right, they are so smart there. They have the cutest carpets I have ever seen.

I just love your TRs. I haven't stayed at POR since before the referb it looks so beautiful now. Can't wait to read the rest of your report, I'll be staying tuned for sure:banana:!

The rooms are so nice now that they are referbed, they are still finishing some of the mansions I believe, they have a list of how it is coming along on portorleans.org, thanks for reading along :flower3:

CHAPTER 6 – WELCOME TO THE WORLD

We left for the Magic Kingdom at 1:41 in the afternoon and arrived there just before 2:00, it was a pretty quick bus ride. We paused briefly as we entered the kingdom of happiness to marvel at the Christmas time wonders and take some quick pictures.

We went to Main Street Bakery for lunch but after seeing the line and our menu options for the quick service lunch we decided to try somewhere new. We walked along the Tomorrowland Terrace and ended up at the Lunching Pad. The line was only a few people deep so we joined in. As you may remember from our prior trip reports, Danielle and I are big fans of sharing as were our parents on this vacation, so we both opted to share a taco dog. With the dining plan we got 2 chocolate chip cookies for dessert, a small bag of chips, and a delicious blue raspberry frozen beverage on our chilly day. Lunch really hit the spot. We will definately eat here again, this was a great sharing meal althought next time I think we will just get the regular soda since the frozen beverage was a smaller portion.

dscf3718sp.jpg

As we ate we had the delightful opportunity of seeing a tour group go by, we have never had this experience before but have read about it often on the DIS boards, we now feel your pain.

dscf3719c.jpg

After lunch we finally noticed that the crowds were bananas but the people mover – Tomorrowland transit authority didn’t have a long line so we opted to make that our first ride of 2012. We boarded in no time, to our sadness they asked us to throw our slush in the garbage, Danielle and I had some severe brain freeze while we tried to suck that thing down quickly and then we were on our way.

dscf3721i.jpg

disney20122426.jpg

As we rode along we entered the Space Mountain building and were shocked. The lights were on and no one was home, it was an eerie sight, boy oh boy is it dirty in there. We tried to get a picture but they flew us through that part. The Space Mountain debacle was the highlight of this particular ride. After the TTA, we made our way over to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.

dscf3735.jpg

Danielle always blows me out of the water on this game, I can never figure out which red dots is mine, Im pretty sure I am always all over the place... this time was no different.

dscf3747f.jpg

dscf3751.jpg

After our Tomorrowland excitement, we headed off to Fantasyland to the Haunted Mansion and Mickey’s Philharmagic. As we walked by I couldn’t help but think out loud "there are so many good smells here, it smells like meat and nuts", Danielle laughed at me. We caught a peak at the January Fantasyland progress and noted it was coming along nicely.

dscf3723l.jpg

dscf3724o.jpg

I always appreciate the detail on HM, I love the subtle spooky decorations, if I could live here I TOTALLY would .

dscf3726y.jpg

We decided after the HM, that time was getting short so we headed toward the exit because we had reservations at Whispering Canyon for 7:35 and we were not sure how long the boat ride over would take. We walked past Pirates and decided that a 10 minute wait could not be turned down so we made Pirates the last ride of the evening. I find it important to let everyone know that we did have intensions of returning to the park every night, however the cold weather had not been anticipated on our part and we had inappropriately packed only a jacket and were unaware that we actually required a parka; therefore not allowing late night Disney fun. After pirates we walked to the train and hoped on for a ride to the front of the park, we stopped in Toon Town to refuel then we finally made it to the front gate.

dscf3756g.jpg

dscf3755ml.jpg

As we arrived at the red flag boat dock, the boat was just leaving, that is our usual luck with these sorts of things . It gave us the opportunity to take some pictures while we waited for the next boat. Once the boat arrived we hopped on and we were on our way to a delicious skillet dinner.

The Haunted Mansion does have amazing detail, and even more amazing staff. I love when you get a CM that is completely into their character and they go all out on that ride; it really makes the atmosphere even more spooky:hmghost:

I know right, I always think its funny when they creep right up on people waiting in line and say something to them in their scary voice. It has got to be one of my most favourite rides, that and Thunder Mountain, I can ride that thing 1000 times and not get bored of it :yay: BEST RIDE EVER!

:cheer2: REAL LIFE UPDATE :cheer2:

83 DAYS UNTIL MY NEXT DISNEY VACATION

More good news... Danielle was so jealous about my next trip without her that her and Brendan are trying to plan another trip right before mine.

Two more PARENT-LESS TR's on the way

Ya! They do that at TOT too. One time I turned around in the room where you watch the video and some guy was just standing behind me just looking at me, I think he had been there the entire time! Creeeeeepy.
Thunder Mountain is pretty great, I just love the loop that they play while you're waiting in line; it just screams Disney to me.

I love Thunder Mountain as well, it is one of Danielle's favourite rides. We got trapped in there one year during a tornado watch, the loop was pretty funny. A little girl that was in there with us kept saying "it's the wildest ride", we were dying laughing. :rotfl2:

That does sound so funny, some of the kids at Disney World are just the cutest things you have ever seen. I just noticed your real life update, that is so exciting that both you and your sister are planning on going back!! I'm already looking forward to reading both of your Trip Reports!

True story, cute kids ::yes::
Yes we are hopefully both going back, Danielles trip is still tentative
she is waiting to hear from her DBF to see if the trip is during an appropriate time.
I however... am a GO!! I cannot wait!!
I'm glad someone is looking forward to our trip reports, it feels like I am talking to myself most of the time on here
nice to finally have someone to talk with :flower3:
