This is a long story, bear with me. Yes, I know I'm sexy.
I work at a personal training studio. My coworker (we'll call her Jenny) made plans to buy a pound cake from one of her clients who bakes them for a living. Quite expensive, but worth the money. She purchased it for her dad's 50th birthday party.
The client came in and brought the cake. Jenny was going to pick it up later in the day. To keep anything from happening to it, the employees (we'll call them Carl and Liz) that were there put the cake in the fridge. Called Jenny to tell her the client had brought it and that it was in the kitchen. No problem.
Liz goes into the kitchen later and our boss is in there digging into the cake with a fork. Liz says, "Hey, that's Jenny's cake client X made for her. She's taking it to her Dad's birthday party!!!" Boss comes back with, "Oh well, there was no note or name on it."
So Jenny comes in that night to pick up the cake. Not only had our boss gotten into the cake, he didn't have the decency to cut a piece. He just kept getting bites of it with a fork. Jenny gets mad but realizes there was nothing she could do about it for the time being. She took the cake home and cut it into pieces so no one would ever see what happened.
Fast forward to the next day Jenny's at work (she only works part-time). She goes to our boss to find out what happened with the cake (Liz and Carl had told her). All she was wanting was, at the very least, a "sorry about that, my mistake." What does she get? CUSSED OUT!!! "What the h*** is wrong with you? You should put a d*** note on things like that. What the f- is that matter? You have no reason to be upset."
Needless to say, Jenny was livid. I am shocked she didn't just walk out right then and there.
My opinion: if you didn't bring it and it wasn't offered to you, it is not up for grabs.
My boss's opinion: there was no name on it, so it's fair game.
So all of you who share eating spaces with employees, what's your opinion? Jenny should have been honked, Jenny didn't have a name on it so it's for everyone? What do you think?
ETA: Hee hee, a related story. The day AFTER I heard this story, I brought in some goodies for Jenny and Carl as a thank-you. Jenny had trained my husband the week before when he was off, just to be nice, and Carl had done me a big favor. So I was sitting in the office talking to the two of them and in walks our boss. He looks at the goodies I brought said, "Ooooh muffins. Yummy!" He grabs 2 and leaves the office. The three of us looked and eat other, rolled our eyes and busted out laughing.

He's a moron and a jerk and Jenny should make him pay for the cake. I would have taken a piece out of his butt for it. People like that make me furious.
And even if it was there to be shared, why the hell would you just eat it with a fork- wouldnt most normal people cut it and just take a peice?
