Do they still let you do this? We were able to ride up in front with the conductor in 2009, but I wasn't sure if they still let you... Thanks!

I asked last month when we were there and they said it is not allowed for safety reasons.

Nope, and I don't expect it to ever come back again.

Well, I guess I am lucky to have done it at least once then! It was the most amazing experience. We got to ride it at night and you couldn't even see the rail under you, it was like you were flying! So sad my kids will not get to experience this! Thanks for your responses!:)

Did it several times before change in policy and it was a blast.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

My one and only experience in the cab was about two months before the tragic accident.

I still remember my ride up front when I was 5 :( The monorail is my favorite. I'm a little heart broken that my future children will not be able to enjoy the experience as much as I did.

With the exception of Peach, you probably don't want to ride up front anyway.

The front cabs are nasty and run down, not to mention mold.

I have a hard time beleiving the cabins where the drivers are are moldy. As much as OSHA is all over Disney everytime you turn around if that were the case surely that would have been reported by now and investigated.

I have first hand knowledge and have seen the letters from OSHA.

I also have a friend who left the department because he was getting sick from it. He made a complaint to OSHA and the letter was displayed in a area where anyone who works in the department can see. The problem area is the carpet on the wall behind where the driver sits.

We used to regularly ride up front before the incident that stopped that, and I never, ever experienced anything in the cabs that was different than in the regular cars of the train.

Not saying there was never mold but, keep in mind its Fl and in the summer, you can find mold nearly ANYWHERE. It not to say its safe, but it is reality. We have to do treatments down here regularly to keep it away.

I havent seen the documents so Im not sure if the mold you were referring to was something severe or just something noted that must be removed (I'm assuming it was in the carpet or behind the seats somewhere that gets wet).

Anyways, overall, I never experienced a "nasty" ride up there.

Well since 2009 they have really let the front cabs go. Quite often the AC doesn't even work in the front cab, even in the middle of summer.

The company I work for had some mold complaints to OSHA (like 3 out of 1,000+ employees on this site filed complaints) and as a result they sent out teams to all 30+ of our sites to investigate and do air quality tests. It was nuts and included tons of follow up visits to make sure the problem was corrected.

You may want to let your friend know for the future he can report things anonymously to prevent a public display like that. That's just ridiculous.

Well the company is required to display the letters where anyone who is potentially exposed can see.

The only reason I know it was my friend is because he told me right after he left the department, there was no mention of him by name anywhere on the letter by OSHA.

FYI you are still allowed to ride up front with the pilot/driver on the monorail at Disneyland, just did it in September and it was a lot of fun.

I had previously done it in Florida as well.

Also, the monorail at Disneyland is so small when you are used to the one in Florida.

The pilot cabin is small and the headroom is inadequate. The most important aspect is that the front and rear cabins were not designed to carry passengers. The windscreen design is a safety hazard. :thumbsup2

Oglet,

you mentioned that they have let the cabs go since 2009 and the mold issue has gotten much worse. I wonder wondering if you might know or have any idea if the issue with it (and the A/C) could in any way be related to the new "anti-fogging" measures that the NTSB report mentioned have been added.

Of course.... those trains are older now than the MKIV's were when they started getting replaced....And the amount of hours/miles put on them and # of people they've carried is not even comparable anymore.

I don't think you can say the front cabins were not designed to carry passengers. Considering the MKVI's were put into service almost 20yrs after the MKIV's first carried passengers around the Seven Seas Lagoon, And the MKIV's regularly carried passengers with the driver, It wouldn't take a big jump to realize that the MKVI's were designed with the idea of carrying guests as well.

If I remember correctly, the MKVI's even had more seating room (and a less "pointy" nose) than the MKIV's due to their increased size.
