Riding Dr. Doom??

I know there was a thread like this before, but I believe it was about Hulk or Duling Dragons, so I would *really* appreciate anyones thoughts/feelings on this.

Does this ride scare the crap out of anyone else ?????

It's 3 months before we go & I just know I won't be able to get on it. I rode it once, & it really scared the bejesus out of me & I haven't been back on it since. Just the thought of getting on it makes my heart race & I get a little sweaty.

Now, understand that I will ride anything else at IOA.
Hulk ? No problem, lemmie at it - LOL
Duling Dragons? Fire first or Ice first is the only problem there !!

So is anyone else absolutely *petrified* of Dr. Doom, or am I all alone here ???

Hi Hag- The lift off is the scariest part of Dr. Doom for me. But I gotta tell you, it pales in comparison with the Big Shot ride in Las Vegas. The Big Shot is basically about the same ride mechanism as Dr. Doom, but placed at the very top of the tallest building west of the Mississippi! THAT is REALLY scary!!

I have seen the Big Shot on the Travel Channel !! I shook my head no during the entire time they were showing it !!!! I was scared of the show!!
That is one heck of a ride. You think Dr. Doom gets to me ~ I couldn't even dream of getting on the Big Shot !
You are right, there is no comparison ~ but I'm not getting on either one of them!!!!!

from my username you can tell I'm a fan of the ride. I've definitely been on it over a hundred times and I think the ride is simply fun. It's a second of an adrenaline rush and then a good view of Orlando. Now, Drop towers such as Acrophobia in Six Flags Over Georgia do scare me. I still ride them, but going up and then just sitting there before dropping does make me more nervous.

just wanted to add my two cents and second Disney Dave that nothing is as scary as the Big Shot.My wife and I both rode it and we still get scared just seeing it on TV.What makes it so scary is the height of the Stratosphere , it feels and looks as though your feet are dangling over the mountains in the foreground

Oh, yes, I have to agree.. I remember standing on the roof, just looking at it, and saying.. I'm not going on it... I'm not going on it!


But I did ride High Roller... that was one scary coaster, not the fastest, most intense.. but hey it was a coaster 900 feet off the ground... that was SCARY!


As for Dr. Doom, no, its not scary. My son went on it last year, he was 7.. he thought it was the coolest thing.

It's ok, I know someone who won't ride Dudley Do-Right, so I guess everyone has *something* they won't ride !!


I'll just hold everyones stuff while they go on it & then they can return the favor for me at the HULK!!!!!

Oh, seahag, Doom isn't bad. I've talked to people who went on Stratosphere in Las Vegas, and they said that Doom is nothing compared to it. Remeber, it's okay to scream on that one!

Riding the Stratosphere Big Shot at night- that is scary! You feel like you are literally being launched to the MOON! Scariest ride I have EVER ridden. It was a cold November night and we were practically the only ones up there, too. Just thinking about it makes my adrenaline get going! The Superman ride at SixFlags is the same type ride and the one at SixFlags over Texas is supposed to be the tallest of its kind- a 325 ft. blast- but it still has NOTHING on the big shot!! NOTHING! So- you CAN do Dr. Doom. Think of it this way, its smooth, not painful, and has a perfect track record of not killing anyone.

I am going to try to give it a go when we are there ~ I'm not making any promises tho, cuz just writing that sentence makes my heart beat faster LOL

Doom is kinda slow.....i rode "Power Tower" at Cedar Point..that was like 75 mph up!!!! that was fun......Doom is still an awesome ride!!

lol not really for me. Once you reach the top and start to go back down...you lift up off of your seat That freaks me out because I'm only 5'1" and so I feel really small and lift off the seat pretty well... it freaks me out a lot but I love the ride! Wonderful THRILL!!!

My 9yo son likes Doom. That fact alone scares me more than ME riding it, because he's so little and must have a lot of air time. He won't even try Hulk or Dueling Dragons, though, since they go upside down and he doesn't like Tower of Terror.
