Ridiculous Question - Anyone know Dimensions of an Epcot Garbage Can lid ?

Lol. I am enjoying people's reaction to the idea of setting a drink on top of a garbage can while you eat nearby. I can only assume anyone who is skeeved by the idea has never gone to a major league ballpark, Octoberfest, or a really good Texas BBQ pit.

I'm a germ-o-phobe of the highest order, yet I'm pretty sure standing a foot away from a garbage can that is cleaned and emptied 5 times a day while you eat will not cause any health problems. Heck, I'd be willing to bet a topical bacteria check of that garbage can lid shows it to be at least 100x cleaner than the handle grips on any of the rides.

The concept itself isn't what bothers me as much as the idea that its so crowded that you're stuck huddling in a corner next to a garbage can. That doesn't sound very enjoyable to me!

BBM-Well said, and I totally agree! :rotfl:

The trash cans are kept clean and regularly emptied. We bring along individually wrapped handi wipes and use them throughout the day. (I am not a fan of gloppy hand 'sanitizer'.) The handi wipes are good for wiping off our hands before and after eating. I think folks who are skeeved by this are thinking the cans are like the dirty smelly overflowing trash cans outside their local discount store. They are not like this at all.

Of course, if there's a high top table, or bench available, we'll use that. But it's perfectly fine to share a clean trash table now and then, too.

What you describe wouldn't be pleasant. Thankfully, it's not like that at all. :thumbsup2

When you hyperbolically simplify it like that it doesn't sound fun, but Food & Wine, even dining atop a trash can, is quite pleasant.

If you don't have a definitive answer by August 17, I'll be glad to take a little tape measure with me and measure the trash cans for you. It is the least I can do to support a fellow DIS-er! My DH and I love thee kinds of weird tasks. I'm totally on this for you! :thumbsup2

As for the adult strolelr concept, I love that, too. I think this basket: http://www.walmart.com/ip/14563673?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227000480883&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=13688605270&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=34444884550&veh=sem with a plastic tray and table cloth on top would be AMAZING! Heck, you could get a bunch and rent them to people like Orlando Stroller rentals does. Wait, I might need in on this deal...this is GENIUS!

This thread has me laughing out loud!

We don't go until Labor Day, but if no one has given you dimensions yet, then I'll try to remember to bring a sewing tape measure with me. I'm curious too! And I can't wait to see the pictures. I agree with the other poster that said she could make and sell them to others as well!

Actually none of the cans we have used are stuck in a corner. Many of them are along the rail by the lagoon, and actually have a very nice view.

LOL, well I hope so, otherwise it would be really strange that all you folks want to go!

Man, too much effort. When we went a couple of years ago and needed a place to eat, we found an opening on a curb and sat down. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, especially for me since I was pregnant, but it worked. Plus we got to watch an awesome band at the UK pavilion.

If there is anywhere that I would feel ok about eating off of garbage cans, Disney would be the place!

This is hysterical. Please add cloth linens tucked into your shirts and use some of that classy silver colored plastic cutlery. I can also get the dimensions for you in 2 weeks but if you post on one of the Resort FAQ threads you will find someone who has just checked in and is there.

But I just got out a ruler and I think that 15" wide is a safe bet, then go about 36" long to drape over the two sides that are not trash openings.

When you sew in the pockets, make one 1/2" wide on each side and insert a plastic flower. Pockets for silverware and napkins, yes. Now, if you can only figure out how to put drink holders on the thing you should go on that show where you try to get the venture capitalists to invest!

Great suggestions!:rotfl: Seriously, I just don't get why anyone would want to do this. She'll have to haul her tablecloth around with her, day after day...
Most of us don't plan to use a trash table for a few minutes, it just happens occasionally. The vast majority of the time we are at a high top table, a bench, or a curb.

In OP's defense, he did state that it was a "ridiculous" question.

You act as if people rub their garbage on top of the garbage can before throwing it away. It's no different from an outdoor picnic table; it's exposed to the elements, which is why people use table cloths.

That's not how germs work. Anyway, if you're at a theme park, unless you're constantly using hand sanitizer, your hands will be just as contaminated as most surfaces. Possibly moreso.

I do use hand sanitizer constantly while I am at Disney. Everytime we get off I ride, we clean our hands. Before we sit down to eat, we make sure our hands are clean.

We have made use of garbage can tops several times at F&W, sometimes you cannot walk and eat, if you have food and a drink. I have NEVER smelled the stench of garbage while doing it.

I'm with Erika on this! We've utilized garbage cans, as well. Short of suddenly growing an extra set of arms/hands (wouldn't that be magical?), sometimes it's the only option to handle food and drink. Never smelled stench, and have shared the "can" with others managing the same issues! We've also seen folks waiting for us to finish so that they could take our place!

We should go share a garbage can one of these years!!!!

You do realize that is considered worse because it is causing bacteria to evolve into anti-biotic resistant strains.
