Ridicules prices for Canada!!!!

No typo, we paid $1500. It was the week after Labor day, I guess it hadent sold that great. Got an email from Disney Vacation Club on the special. Just found the email...

For just $130 per person, per night, Members can book a verandah Stateroom of their choice on select 5-Night cruises aboard the Disney Magic in September, 2012. (Total voyage fare is $649 per person)
That is true I got the same offer but couldn't go. In your oringinal post you neglected to add that it was a special offer for DVC members

And now everything is back to be available. Nearly all categories are there... Strange things happening!!

Some of the holds will fall off Thursday or Friday. I think mine will.
Agreed. I imagine a lot of this is travel agents putting things on hold while they wait for a client to decide. But still, it's pretty crazy how fast this is filling up especially considering it's in October. I'm glad I booked at 7:00 this morning. I thought I was being silly, to be honest, worrying about logging in so early. Live and learn!!

Yep! They're back all right - at higher prices. Just looked and the category we ended up booking (5A) increased by $190 per person from what I paid three hours ago. Looks like they were updating pricing.

I still think it will be very popular. The 7a rate has already gone up $710 since yesterday when I booked, for two adults. The 9c for two adults has gone up $300. Sadly we know the prices will not come down if people do cancel or let their holds go. We watched our 11 night Norway/Iceland/Scotland cruise double in price ~ yowsers!

Agreed! Just checked back to possibly change categories and my 9B went up $150 from 7:30 this morning.

Okay, but then you aren't comparing apples to apples. If you had booked your past Canadian sailing on opening day it would have been just a little cheaper than the current rates. The only reason there is such a big price difference is because you booked a great deal last-minute. While I agree that DCL is only getting more expensive every year, saying they are "out of control" in this situation is a bit misleading.

You have GOT to be kidding! I have gotta learn to stop thinking I can afford to sail Disney anymore. A Cat 7A for 2A is almost $3,700! I just looked at Carnival Sunshine for Sept. 2016, which is a 7 day cruise with FOUR ports, sailing out of NYC and we can get a balcony for 2A for $1,899! We can get two cruises for what Disney wants for one anymore. And now that we are close to retirement, we'll be looking at these more sensibly priced cruises. [We did a 4-night on Carnival last year out of NYC and loved it -- not the same "party" crowd you get in the Caribbean.]

It's gonna take a few years, but their pricing is eventually going to catch up with them. As each person/family starts experimenting with other lines due to the ridiculous prices, many will never come back at these prices. I know many will undoubtedly respond that there is "always a new family to take your place". That may be true - for now. Wait for the next recession (which can't be far away)...and we'll see then how many are lining up to pay these prices.

Prices jumped as we speak!

The 4A I am looking at went up $600 in 5 minutes and the Conci 1 Bed went up $2k

Yep...and it doesn't help that RCL is in U.S. Dollars. We booked with RCL in CAD....similar cruise, ship (Allure vs Fantasy), both Eastern Caribbean , similar cabin and difference is $3000 with the dollar.

I hope everyone booked early today. It looks like only Concierge remaining available now on the 5-night Canadian cruise!
Wow!

For anyone who missed out, hang in there and keep checking back. Courtesy holds can/will release. It's a long way off but the PIF date usually sees some rooms returning to inventory as well. Good luck all!

You got it. I am (honestly) surprised that they are still getting the crowds they are getting. I think people with young children don't want to venture away from Disney (which I can understand), but they would certainly get a lot more bang for their buck if they did. And let's face it, some of these other cruise lines have just as good staff/crew and amenable (if not better) food. We have tried HAL, Carnival and NCL, and in August will be on Princess for the British Isles (again, $3,000 cheaper than what Disney wanted), and next year will be doing NCL in Bermuda for a 7-night sailing and Carnival for Canada/New England for a 7-night sailing and the TWO combined equal one 7-night sailing on Disney!

I'm afraid I have to disagree that Disney's pricing is going to catch up with them, or cause any ill effect... interspersed in this same thread are people noting that other cruises are filling up so fast, prices are jumping higher. The demand is there, so the prices go higher. Right or wrong -- not defending them. Just don't think it's going to change.

I'm willing to pay Disney prices since my kids love it, but I'm not at all thrilled with the itineraries. Only 2 ports in Canada? Why not add a few New England ports?

I don't think I'll be booking anything for next year since competition has a lot better itineraries than DCL.

I think this is a flaw in their system personally... I understand pricing going up as the ship is BOOKED, but pushing prices higher when so many of the rooms are holds just discourages people who would otherwise actually book the rooms. Personally, once I see that I missed the boat on original pricing, the ship has sailed for us.

I think that's because you're a fiscally conscious person -- I'm the same way. But humans being what they are, I think some people see prices jumping as rooms sell out (sort of) and think, "Oh no! We must book it now, then, even though we were on the fence!"

Something I do if it's something I know is going up quickly or selling out and want to keep my options open, I throw a booking down ASAP. It locks in the price while I'm taking the time to think about it and decide for sure. If I do decide against the booking I can cancel or move it. At the very least, I'm locked-in. Even if down the road I decide to bump up in category it'll be at the same price I could've had at the time I locked down.

Like when the big Lilly for Target thing happened last month I did the whole early morning store rush....scooped up everything I might want to consider having, brought it home, and thought on it for a few days. I decided what I wanted to keep then returned the rest. If I hadn't done it that way I'd not have had the opportunity at all since everything sold out within minutes. It's the same premis. Make the booking to give myself time then decide and keep/cancel/move.

That makes sense. Again, there's still a planning/fiscal thought process going on there. And what else can you do? Like you said, you'd miss out, otherwise. (I wish I'd gotten in on the Lilly for Target thing, because some of the clothes looked really cute, but I missed that boat entirely. Ah well.)

I'm cynical, though, and I think lots of consumers are driven by a "It's popular I must get it and have it now!" mentality, and not the kind where they make a smart decision about it later. The scarcer something seems, the more people will feel they have to get it NOW or they won't be able to later. And there are a lot of people buying up Disney cruises, so I'm just saying, I don't see the upwards-price-trend ending.
