my family (husband, 2 kids- 13 and 8) are leaving for disney in a few days. we all love the more rollercoaster-ish rides (BTMR, splash mountain, space mountain etc.) but my 8 year-old doesnt. we dont want to leave him alone, but we all want to ride. have any ideas on how we can work this out?

I'd just have 2 people go at a time. If there is FP (most if not all of them have it that you'd be concerned about). Get an FP on your 8 yo's ticket, but give it to whoever wants to go on the ride twice. So basically 2 people will use their FP, then the waiting person will use their FP, and 1 person can go a second time using the 8 yo's FP. This way your 8 yo doesn't need to wait alone and no one has to ride alone. Youguys can take turns going twice in a row on the ride. :thumbsup2

Child Swap also. I would explain to the CM that your son is not the roller coaster type and swap off.

But give him the chance to change his mind - disney does do magic, ya know...

Very very true! :thumbsup2 I would ask him "so, would you like to try Splash Mountain this time?", for example. Don't bring up that he was scared on other trips, and ask him at every ride if he wants to try it. You never know, he may be terrified of Splash but decide that BTMR is ok. :goodvibes

If I understand correctly you can only do child swap if the child does not meet the height requirement. You cannot do it if they child does meet the requirement but just does not want to ride.

True. We were told we couldn't use child swap when our kids were tall enough but just scared to ride.

Our trip to Disneyland last month was the first time everyone was willing to ride everything. In the past when we had a reluctant one, we would do what was mentioned above - get 4 Fastpasses for the ride in question. Then, my husband would take the willing one on the ride while I took the other one on something else nearby. Later, the willing kid and I would use the remaining 2 Fastpasses for the ride in question while my husband took the other one to something nearby. That way, both parents get to ride at least once. The kid who likes the ride gets to go twice. The kid who doesn't want to ride isn't just sitting around waiting - he gets to do something he does like during that time. If neither kids wants to ride something, mom and dad take turns going solo while the other hangs with the kids.

I said child swap because I saw a lot of people doing it back in Feb with older kids. I didnt know they had restrictions. I'm sorry.
