Traveling in May with my mom and sisters for an all girls trip. My mom is 82, has macular degeneration, some arthritis, but in general good health. I have a general idea of what she can't go on - no coasters - but can she go on Test Track? Dinosaur? Splash Mountain? Mission Space Green? No way on TOT, right?

Thanks!

Test Track? Nope. Unless she WANTS to. (The "brake tests" and "swerving" can be rough.

Dinosaur? No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No! (Just , No!)

Splash Mountain? If she wants to.

Mission Space Green? If she wants to.

TOT? Nope. Unless she WANTS to.

my grandfather rode ToT a couple weeks ago, he is 86, he likes that ride a lot more than I do.

We're taking my 76 y/o Mom this weekend. She has mild cardiac issues (very well controlled with meds) and arthritis.

She can do Test Track -- really, the fast part is not much worse than driving fast on a highway, and it's not too crazy for the earlier parts of the ride.

I am pretty sure she has done Dinosaur without difficulty in the past. Heck, the Safari is only slightly less rough in spots.

She won't do TOT, Mission Space (I may try the Green side for her first, just in case she is interested--definitely no Orange side for her), Space Mountain or RnR Coaster.

Splash, she probably could do if she wanted. She has done Kali.

Now...whether or not she'll want to try any of the ones I listed above on this trip (she was 73 her last trip to WDW) is up to her. I don't push her. My sis and I will ride the big rides while she waits, then we'll do something more benign for her. It's going to be a good trip!

My 77 y/o dad and I went last year to celebrate his recovery from 2 different cancers. He rode EVERYTHING! RnR and EE twice!

It is here that we completely disagree.

Dino is, by far, the roughest and loudest attraction at WDW.

Thanks, kind of what I was thinking. I don't recall Test Track being that jerky, so I wanted to ask. I think we will try that but definitely have her skip Dinosaur and TOT. Someone on another board told me no to Mission Space Green and I just couldn't remember that being bad at all. I know definitely not Orange!

I go on Mission:Space Green with a broken neck. There is no jerkiness involved. Turn away if you don't want spoilers.

With the initial liftoff, you will feel like you are on in the capsule and you are lifting off. And the shot around the moon is pretty cool. If I were in the oragne (which I was before my accident), I couldn't have handled the effects. With green it's not bad at all.

Go first and then decide for your mother. I dnnno know. If I can go on this. I just want to point out that it's not that bad.

BTW - I don't do the Safaril. That's in the "I'd better be safe" zone. For Dinosaur, that wasn't even an option after my accident. That was on the black list. And I rode these attractions before.

If your mother has more that just medical issues and you want a persective on likes and dislikes………My mother is 76 and doesn’t like roller coasters. So ALL of these rides are a no, no to her. She road Dinosaur once and hated it. She said she felt that she was going to fly out of the jeep. IT IS ROUGH. The safari she does and loves. She said she feels safer in that vehicle. Someone mentioned Kali. That is mom’s favorite ride!

Can I just say that the Dinosaur ride is a killer! Dont get me wrong I did love it but last time on it it jerked me so hard I had a headache for hours afterwards.
Also my mom had trouble on Dinosaur last time as well, she has arthritis in her hip and it was rough for her as well.:scared:
She doesent do rollercoasters and mission space not up her alley, but she was fine on Test Track, Splash Mountain & ToT is one of her favorites!

My 83 yr. old mother has some walking issues (bad ankles) but otherwise in good condition. She does Splash Mtn. always and will go on Dinosaur. She doesn't care for Test Track and almost went on Mission Space Green - she has been on the spinning side a few years back. She has no problem on TOT - she will go on it at least once per trip although I will do it multiple times. Actually she has problems with rides like the Jungle Cruise that she finds hard to get in and out.

I would suggest you look on the disABILITIES forum, especially at the disABILITIES FAQ. You can get there quickly by following the link in my signature.

I wanted to mention one thing that no one ever says. The Test Track ride itself is not that bad. The hardest part is getting in and out of the vehicle. You have to step way down into the car and not much to hold on to. If she has arthritis in her knees or back, it might hurt getting in to out of the car.

I would say yes to Test Track (as long as she doesn't mind the little speedy part at the end, but it's not rough), yes to Splash Mountain (the drop's not bad), no to Dinosaur (very rough, jerky and loud) and a maybe to Mission Space Green (I think the only problem is the feeling of being closed in, if she's at all claustrophobic).

I didn't care for test track all the braking, turning I thought the bumps were rough, dino was also rough, I didn't like mission green felt like I was trapped, and it made me sick. TOT was ok, my four year old rode it and liked it, I don't like the part where it drops and you fly up out of the seat I think it should have shoulder restraints.

TOT... I don't like the part where it drops and you fly up out of the seat I think it should have shoulder restraints.

That's like saying you like it's a small world... except for all of the moving dolls.

;)

The "negative G's" during the drops in ToT is the point of the ride.

When we took my mom, we bought Baumbaums (sp) she looked & read about all the rides. She marked all the ones she wanted to try & the only ride we "talked" her into was soarin' Which she loved.

This trip eas for her so we just did not go on any of the rides you listed, but if you mom is like I MUST go on someting, you could try.

All those listed seem a little rough, except test track. we did not do test track because mom has an ostomy and the seatbelt might of been an issue.

Thanks, all. My mom hasn't been on rides in probably 15 years. She and my Dad (no longer with us) used to be roller coaster junkies, but I know she will be wary of them with her age. Now that my Dad is gone she has become a hermit and won't venture out, so we are excited that she is coming with us on this trip. I just don't want to recommend something that would be harmful. She is not claustrophic so as long as Mission Space Green is not jerky I think that's fine. Big yes to Soarin (already knew that) and a big no to Dinosaur. I would LOVE to get her on TOT for the experience, but I'm just afraid of her flying up in her seat and landing down hard. I figured Splash was ok, the drop looks bad but it's pretty tame from what I remember.

I will check out the disabilities board - thanks Cheshire!

I go to youtube a lot to check out rides! I'm so glad I did b/c I almost went on Dinosaur and EE. I am soooooo glad I didn't!!

FYI I love its a small world, but I don't think my grandma in her 80's would want to fly up out of her seat that would probably be a little rough, I love the drop I said in my quote I don't like the part where it drops and you fly up out of the seat which means I don't like being thrown out of my seat, not that I don't like the drop, most rides at Disney have some kinda "drop" I just would like to stay in my seat

It is an attraction that is designed to lift guests out of their seats ("negative G's.")

Flying out of the seat is the reason they built the elevators to drop faster than gravity.

It is perfectly cool that you don't like the feeling of that (you are not alone, I'm sure.)

But I am pointing out that the reason that you don't like it, IS the reason so many other guests DO like it.

Originally, ToT had long lap-bars so that guests would feel the "hang-time" even more.

A few years later, they added the (current) seatbelts and now guests are much more restrained (and I think the ride is less exciting for it.)
