Rides, etc, to skip?

In an attempt to make this a relaxing vacation, what rides, shows, etc, can we skip in order to get done the ones that are a must do and still have down time? DS will be 10 1/2 and DD will be barely 6.

My suggestion is to have each person going write a list of three things that they MUST do in each park and do those. Any extra that gets done is a bonus. This way everyone gets to do something they want and keeps everyone happy. Plus it cuts down on the disappointments of missing favorites.

I know it sounds like a non-answer, but there's really no way to tell you what is skippable. Everyone likes different things; what I might deem "Must see," y'all might hate to no end! :rotfl: I myself have gone on rides/shows expecting to hate them/be scared half to death and wound up loving them (Test Track being one example). That being said, here are a few tips (more of a "what to avoid if you or a family member doesn't like something" guide than a list of attractions to skip):

If you hate going upside down, skip Rock n' Roller Coaster
If you hate speed, skip Test Track (65? mph), Everest possibly (50mph, I believe), and Rock n' Roller Coaster (60 mph?)
If you hate heights, skip Tower of Terror and possibly Splash Mountain; with Soarin', you could just ask for the lowest row (only 10 ft or so off the ground)
If you hate being in pitch blackness, skip Space Mountain, possibly Stitch's Great Escape, and probably a few others I'm forgetting
If you don't want to get wet, possibly skip Splash Mountain (I've heard varying things about how wet you get there), and definitely skip Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom
If you like history, make sure to check out Hall of Presidents in Magic Kingdom and The American Adventure in Epcot

I agree that this is a tough question and really impossible to answer. Everyone has different opinions on what rides, attractions or shows are great and which ones should be avoided.
I agree with the poster about making a list of what everyone feels they MUST do and work from there.

I also agree it's a purely personal thing & to make those Must-See lists. Do those, then start filling in with things around you.

Personally, there's really no attraction I don't recommend doing at least once. Really, for me, the only ones I consciously skip are Tower of Terror (I don't like the FreeFall feeling, otherwise I love the attraction) and Stitch's Great Escape (Love Stitch, don't like the attraction & miss Alien Encounter that was there before).

The attractions I plan to skip at the MK this trip are:

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse
Pirates of the Caribbean (Closed when I go for refurbishment)
Tom Sawyer Island
Hall of Presidents
It's A Small World
Stich's Great Escape

I think it's more important that you pick "must do"s rather than "must skip"s because if you try to do too much you'll make yourself crazy anyway.

That said, I skip much of Future World except for the hot spots. I don't even know if they still have things like Food Rocks and that Body Wars anymore, but I think once was too much for a lot of that stuff!

If you hate heights, skip Astro Orbiter too. Heck, skip it anyways!

I would also suggest that you have the kids write down their "must dos". If you are not very familiar with the park layouts or the most popular rides, then repost a message for input on what strategy to use for each park for the rides they select. For instance, if they want to ride Splash Mtn, Big Thunder Mtn Railroad, Buzz, and Space Mtn they are on opposite ends of the park. If it's cool weather I would suggest going to Space and Buzz first, FP one and stand by the other. While you wait on your FP time to come up, you can ride the Speedway cars, Blue Line, etc (extras for the day). Then move to the other side of the park and FP one of the other must do's and stand by one, etc. You will still be able to ride other rides in between that will just be icing on the cake.

Definitely start with the must-dos.

We skip the shows for the most part - just too much waiting and sitting for what we get out of them and we'd rather be riding something 99 times out of 100. Some people love the shows, though and wouldn't miss them. So much of it comes down to personal tastes.......

What we're doing to decide which things to see is: We're using the Unofficial Guide Book and each of us is using a different highlighter color and highlighting the items we want to see and then we'll go from there. If there are things that no one highlights then we won't waste time discussing whether we should go there or not. Hoping this will work for us.

Of course, if it's at Disney how wrong can it be whatever you ride or see :thumbsup2

LOL I agree! It's pretty to look at, but possibly the scariest thing at WDW! And I didn't realize until I got on the thing! What is it about that??? It's like you're going to tip out of it or something!!!

I'm not scared by much but the Astro Orbiter scared me big time! I loved all other rides - hit them all at MK but will never go on Astro Orbiter again!!!

But everyone seems to have the same idea. What is fun for some people is not for others. I kind of liked Stitch but many people seem to hate it!!!!

I hate to be rude, but I would only take this poster's advice if you also hate having fun. These are some of Disney's best offerings.

You absolutely CANNOT skip Splash Mountain. I guarantee it will be one of your kids' favorites.

I would suggest taking each day as it comes. Match your pace to your kids, unless you can't keep up :Pinkbounc . They will want to try certain attractions based on what they see as they walk around, and by the end of the trip if you haven't done it all, then you'll have something to look forward to for the next time.

Enjoy.

I don't know that I would tell you to skip it, but my kids were very disappointed in Stitch's Great Escape. We waited for an hour, and I don't think we will ride it again.
