Rider switch conflicting info

i always thought that one could only utilize rider switch if you had a child that did not meet the height restriction for the particular attraction. This seems to conflict with what is on the wdw website as well as what I'm reading in another forum. I have in thrill riding child and one who does not like thrills - but he is almost 48". So he exceeds the minimum height for most rides, he just doesn't want to ride. Rider swap would really change our touring plan. Thanks!

You're correct. If your child does not meet the height requirement, you'll be able to obtain an RS pass.

We were there in August with the same situation. DS, who is tall enough to ride, did not want to do the coasters. They allowed us to do it with him. DD, the younger of the two, was able to ride everything twice - once with DH and once with Me.
This is on their website:
"If Guests in your party can’t or don’t want to board an attraction, you don’t have to miss out!"

That was pixie dust. No one should expect that to happen for them. CM's are instructed to only give rider switch passes if there is a child too short too ride.

We where there for two weeks and asked two or three times a day for rider switch pass for our daughter who is too tall...never once did we get told no.

Yes and there are people who have had to measure their child to prove they were too short. It ultimately is up to the cm working the ride.

I have been refused for DS.
It's just one more of those Disney "rules" that doesn't seen to be set in stone or have any consistency in practice.
Aggravating as someone is our group is always missing out riding some big ones to stay behind with him.
While other guests get to use it and get double the FP+ limit.
Very frustrating.

I get that some people may have been turned down. That hasn't happened once for me. So I think it's bad advice to just say no it's not allowed. I'm letting Op know that not everybody has same experience. What's the worse that could happen..they get told no. I asked a got told for two weeks yes. I'm glad I did!!

We had no problems getting a pass for my daughter who was tall enough and just didn't want to ride.

And the reason others respond that they have been refused is because there is clearly NO set policy on this that is ADHERED to. It will depend on the attraction, the CM, the lines, the crowds and maybe even how your child or you look to that CM. When there is no consistency in a policy none our our experiences are representative of what will happen to the next guest. So to the OP - try but no one here can guarantee what will happen so plan to be flexible of necessary.

PS Website is so outdated that they say you will wait in a designated area until your turn which is not true at all since they don't exist.

I was replaying to the people who said it's not allowed. Again that's bad advice to just say you can't get a rider switch.
My personal experience has been that they give them out just like the website says. I've been told yes ever time..so I keep asking. I'm assuming the people who where told no quit asking after that. This kind of post comesup ever so often and it's always about half say you can and half say you can't. Now take the half that say you can't and only asked once. Then the half that say it's works fine ask multiple times. So I'm saying your chances are better That you'll get your rider switch.

But again you are wording it like it is a for sure bet policy, like the website, because it happened for you. It is also bad advice to say it will happen. The website also says part of the process is to wait in a special designated area for your turn to ride which is completely untrue. The website also says the pass will only allow two guests back, stating rider and one other guest, when many have reported three guests total may come back; wrong or right? The same website that is so inconsistent that when you go to pull it up this comes up prior to page says "Rider Switch allows an adult Guest to wait with a child unable to ride an attraction and then board the attraction without waiting in line again." Then the next page says "..a child does not meet the height requirement or a Guest does not wish to board a particular attraction.." Inconsistent information from the source. If you read on 7DMT isn't even on the list. My point is, as was a PP, the website is years outdated and can not be used as a basis for information. CM at the attraction has final say so.

"The half that say you can't only asked once".............. how do you know? You couldn't possibly know my experience. Also note that two of us that have had "the no experience" have been around here and Disney a long time. We aren't newbies. I never said it couldn't happen, as I know it can since Disney is very poor about their own guidelines and enforcing any of them, and one reason is the large number of temporary employees on the front line having to deal with guests.

We all have our own experiences, you shared yours, I shared mine. None of us are official Disney reps and all we are here to do is let OP know what we have experienced so that they know what may or may not happen. This is a grey subject - thanks to Disney - with no promises.

Again I was talking about the people who said no like it wasn't possible at all. I gave my experience so they would get both sides. I never said they couldn't be told no. I came after people had said it wasn't possible. If I was the first poster and said it is a definite yes, then I would be giving bad advice. I'm making sure OP gets accurate info.
I said I'm assuming they only asked once. Taking a guess that after you been told no you wouldn't go around asking. Just a guess. You need to read my post better.

I read your post.

You stated "Now take the half that say you can't and only asked once." as a factual statement. There was no implying you were guessing.

- ONE poster said no and she is a veteran poster well versed in Disney policy. She is stating what has been historic Disney policy and that the website is not kept up to date and that particular page has not been updated in two years or more.
- ONE confirmed height may be measured in order to get.
- ONE said ask the CM. Best advice here because it is ultimately their decision.
- ONE (me) said we had been refused and the only answer will come from a CM.
- THREE of you have been successful, so less than half.

You can not support your statements with "the website says so" when the website is years out of date. Particularly since those of us that have been around a long time know that this policy has had many versions. The only answer that matters is the CM at the attraction at that moment. They won't care what the website says, they will go by their training and/or how they wish to implement it that day at that moment with that guest.

This keeps coming up off and on and until Disney sets a firm policy in place AND sticks by it, we just don't know. They don't keep policies updated on the website with current implementation and they consistently break their own policy. I would imagine this policy may be up for change a few more times since there is now FP+ and folks are using the rider switch system to double their FP+. They have bugs to fix so this is one I would keep my eye on since it is sloppy policy.

In my experience - over the past 7/8 years we Have Not been able to get a RS pass when the child is tall enough but chooses not to ride. If I am giving bad advice so be it - but maybe the OP should plan for not being able to use RS and then it would be a bonus if a CM does allow it?

Just one of many examples - on TOT when my nephew was just over 40 inches we were denied a RS pass when he was measured. We were offered to switch at the boarding area and then take the the chicken exit but he was afraid to even wait the queue so we took turns. We have gently tried to clarify with a CM without making a "stink" but for us arguing with the CM and or telling them what may be on a website (even the official site which is very wrong) doesn't work.

Most recently we asked at Soarin during our December trip knowing it was a 50/50 shot but my 5yo niece doesn't care for it but is barely tall enough and they also said no - it was a choice not a Disney imposed restriction.

FWIW the website also says the RS pass is good for 2 riders when in reality it is good for up to 3 riders.

If you read my post. You would have seen the word ASSUMING.
Let's agree to disagree. You can go around and not get rider switch. I'll go around and get them. I must be that good looking and CM's just can't tell me no:-)
