Ride Breakdowns

We were at WDW from 12/2 til 12/9 and we found rides were breaking down constantly. We were stuck on Splash Mountain from 45 minutes on 12/3. We also got stuck on Test Track for 10 minutes on 12/7. We were also on line for Winnie the Pooh, Buzz Lightyear when they went down. Worst of all when we were at Animal Kingdom we twice waited for Kali River Rapids when it was shut down. Mission Space, Spaceship Earth and Star Tours and a couple of other rides also experienced some problems. It became a running joke during our trip of how many problems the rides were having.

When we were there in '03 we waited a loooong time while Haunted Mansion stopped running, and also with Spaceship Earth.

I have been on Spaceship Earth when it's broke down so many times that it's become part of the ride for me! I'm glad you didn't let these minor glitches upset you and you found good humor in it! Just think, it is better to be on a broken ride in Disney tha in a broken car on the interstate!!!!! At least you know Disney will take care of it!

That's odd. DH and I were there in October and we didn't have any problems. Buzz, HM and Spaceship Earth did stop while we rode them, but because they are "circular" rides they HAVE to stop the ride to let on wheelchair parties. But it sounds like you had more than the usuall amount of problems.

We were there 11-30-12-6 and experienced stops that were longer than the usual disabled load period on Buzz and Winnie the Pooh. My nephew and I were evacuated from Thunder Mountain on 12-5 (which was fine since he hated it). My DH and nephew got stuck on Star Tours with a broken vehicle on 12-3, but they were able to move to another car (just had to wait through another pre-board sequence). Peter Pan was down for about an hour the morning of 12-5. Otherwise we had no problems.

We were at the World 12/2~12/10 and also had lots of rides/attractions down. During the MVMCP, both Pirates of the Caribbean and the TTC were down. Also there were difficulties with FOTLK at AK that cancelled several shows. We starting joking about Disney closing rides on purpose to do "quick" rehabs to get ready for the Christmas crowds. :goodvibes

I've never beenon spaceship earth when it hasn't broken down. At first I thought it was just an old, crazappy ride.. but then it occured to me that they probably stop it to load handicapt guests who cannot transfer while moving. Also it seems that splash mountain always has Brier Fox "causin' some problems upstream." This past trip in October, we went on Mansion and it didn't stop once.. I was shocked.. SHOCKED i tell you!!

But it doesn't surprise me that they breakdown so often. They're so detailed and run by such complex programs that they hiccup once in a while. How many times has your home computer frozen for no known reason? I can't count how many times mine has! *shrug* It stinks, but stuff happens. (Not saying that any of you do, but) Just don't get mad at the people running they ride... they're just as upset as you are lol.

Yup -- we were in the World 12/3 to 12/10, our third visit, and were surprised at how often rides were broken down and/or shut down. Definitely more wheelchair loading/offloading than before, but also plenty of straight breakdowns.

My funny story: I FINALLY got up the nerve to try Splash -- it was my DS (7)'s one request for the trip. So we get on, we're sitting there, I'm already holding on for dear life, and they tell us the ride has been shut down so everyone off! I'm feeling both HUGELY relieved but also bummed that I'm going to have to work up my nerve all over again! I did finally ride -- three times! -- and now love it....

Went in June and had to be evacuated off of Splash mountain...no real surprise there. We also got stuck on Small World for about 45 minutes.....how does that song go again.

ouch! :rotfl:

We got stuck on Buzz a couple of years ago, it seemed like forever, probably about 15 mins. DS refused to go on it for a few trips after that, finally got him to go back on it this November, luckily we didn't get stuck again.

We were on Test Track on Dec. 3 when it broke down due to loss of power. Disney has it's own power source and, apparently, it's not unusual for a turbine to go down occasionally. The breakdown happened just before our car was to go outside. It was actually kind of neat to get a behind the scenes look when the lights came on and we walked quite a ways to get back to the lower level to exit. Two cars got stuck outside on a tilt...very glad we weren't in one of those. :earseek:

If you were stuck on Spaceship Earth on Sunday the 11th...that was our fault. My husband's hat fell off onto one of the sensors while we were on that backwards decline. We waited for the CM's to arrive before we tried to retrieve it, not knowing if it was actually us that caused the stop.

Good News is the very second it fell off, the ride came to a halt, the safety features on that ride are amazing.

again...I AM SO SORRY!!!!!!!

On the last day of our trip we had several breakdowns. Spaceship Earth was closed completely because it wasn't working, RnR Coaster broke down while we were in line and created a bit of a wait, Star Tours broke and after trying to start it 2 or 3 times, we finally had to move to a different theater, and TTA broke down while we were on it. That was kinda neat though because it stopped right in front of the Space Mountain window, which had also broken down, but we sat there for about 10-15 minutes and got to see it with the lights on. Pretty cool!

Sometimes when an attraction is closed it is not because the attraction itself is not working, but many times it is a certain element of the attraction. For example of the auctioner in POTC is not working properly the entire ride will be shut down until its fixed.

My DD and I were on Test Track this past October when it died on us- and we were smack in the middle of our high speed loop on the tilt. We could look into some mirrors that they have set up (the ones that allow you to see what is happening on the outside part as you walk toward Test Track) and wave at the CMs who were by the Fast Past entrance. Luckily, they got us started again after about 3 minutes. It was still a bummer since it was my DDs (8 1/2) first time on Test Track. Made for a good memory!

Either we were lucky or you were unlucky or both. We were there 12/3-11 and didn't experience a single breakdown, except that SSE was down the evening of 12/4. (We weren't on it -- it was reported as down on the status board.) When we rode SSE a couple days later, it didn't stop once! eerie...

My fear is being stuck in the "hot" room on TT. I don't deal with heat well.

We were also there 12/4-12/10 and experienced very few glitches in the rides. Test Track was down on the 6th when we tried for that one and Space Mountain only had one side open on the afternoon of the 10th (that was a hugh letdown for the kids--they wanted to ride it one more time before we loaded up for our long drive home but the wait was at least 90 minutes).

We were there 12/4-8 and didn't experience any breakdowns that I know of. Spaceship Earth stopped twice during one ride, once for at least a couple of minutes and once again for only 20 seconds or so. When dd3 and I got off, I saw a LOT of wheelchairs (about 8-10 of them). I figure it was to allow all of them to get on. DD3 LOVED SSE. We rode it a total of 5-6 times that week!

I guess you could call this a breakdown - Monday morning while waiting on my "spot" at Tower of Terror, the CM disappeared for a minute, came back and said we would be moving to the other end. We just had to all walk past the other two places they were loading and went to the last place. I guess there was something wrong with the one we were originally going to ride. Or is that something they were doing if you used FP?

We were there from 12/3-12/10. I was so surprised at the number of breakdowns we had. Buzz Lightyear was closed several times that we wanted to ride it, Carousel of Progress broke down on us, the People Mover ride also broke down. At one point it seemed like everything we were trying to do in Tomorrowland was down. But it's Disney World and there's no shortage of fun things, so we went to another land and had a good time!

We also went to MGM one day specifically for the Osborne Lights and were waiting at the end of the street about 5 till 6 when they announced the because of inclement weather, the lights were cancelled for that evening. That was a huge bummer. :umbrella:

We were there Nov 27th - Dec 4th and the only breakdown we directly experienced was on Big Thunder Mountain. It was raining and on the last lift hill (the one inside the caves with the moving rocks), the ride stopped. After a few minutes a couple of CM's arrived and escorted us out of the train and we had to walk back to the station thought the inside of the mountain.

It was rather cool to see the "backstage" of the mountain - all the equipment and the rebar framing.

Also, while on the TTA as we approached Space Mountain we could see the lights were on, but right as we got to the point where you could see anything, the lights went back off.
