Riddle me this!

I used to love Captain Kangaroo... especially when he read a book aloud. I was captivated! "Make way for the Ducklings" and the Steam Shovel story particularly still stay with me even today.

:)

Welcome back, Dix! You were sorely missed!

Thanks, yepod! Gotta love Johnny!

BREEZY!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!

Good morning, riddlers!

It's been busy here, but I just wanted to say hello....:D

Carol - I know just where you're coming from. The people on the shuttle were at their chosen jobs, jobs that carried considerable risks.

Gina - I also feel the same way about the Twin Towers. I'm looking forward to this weekend in NY but I'm also somewhat dreading actually seeing the site since I haven't been back since the attacks.

I also agree that NASA should continue. Someone on TV this weekend spoke of the astronuats as explorers.....and that many explorers had lost their lives in the history of our country but we have and will always benefit from their sacrifices and dedication.

Peace everyone - have a good day.

Morning Riddlers...

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Can you believe it? Kasie is really 2 now!
Hmmm...now 2 years flew by like ... well 2 weeks.
So... at this pace she'll be ready for college by June...
Guess I'd better start saving...like about $5,000 a week...LOL

I'm bringing the cupcakes into her daycare this morning.
Hope the staff isn't to upset after I leave them with 8 toddlers
hyped up on a sugar high...lol...bouncing off the walls.

Have a great day everyone!
:D :D :D

btw:
I'm attending a conference this week ... so I'll check in as I can.
Enjoy the week.

Good morning to all! Wow, I really need to get up earlier and check the thread sooner. Seven pages is a lot to read at once and a lot to comment on. I'll just send a group {{{{hug}}}} to everyone.

I think I might have an idea for today's riddle, so hopefully Bernie doesn't "Ahem, IHSEIM" me.

Diane - how was your TwinsFest? I worked at Piratefest all weekend. It was really crowded and lots of fun.

DblD! Welcome home! That steam shovel story was titled 'Big Bertha', and I named one of my dogs after it!

TwinsFest was PACKED!!! Loved it!:bounce:

Good morning all! Pm sent thanks to some clues!

Mickey, I hope Lucy is fine!

Bernie, congrats to Erin and Katie!!

Welcome back DblD!! We missed you!

I was getting ready for work Saturday morning when DD told me that Nasa had lost contact with one of its satelites. I didn't think too much of it, until she changed the channel and I realized what it was. I started to cry. DS was upstairs with DH and couldn't figure out what happened when I came running up, hugged him and told him I didn't want him to be an astronaut. It's what he's always wanted to be, and I'd never stand in his way, but at times like this, I just wish he'd pick something safe--like a rubber room tester! I know that in these days there is no such thing as a safe job. Before 9-11 everyone thought that being a stockbroker was safe. Here in Canada, we're also mourning the loss of 7 grade 10 students in an avalanche in B.C. It's the second deadly avalanche in the past week. The government is thinking of looking into the skiing industry. I'm just glad that the school trip DS leaves for on Thursday is not a ski trip!

With all of this crummy weather and sad news, I'm sure looking forward to Riddlecon this summer!

I remember most of the TV shows you're all talking about.

:)

Same here, Laura. When I was pregnant with my oldest, I joined a book club that had many of the books I remembered hearing on Captain Kangaroo: The Story About Ping; Stone Soup; Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel; Katy and the Big Snow; The Little Engine That Could; etc. We still have all those books.

Yes, it was a very sad weekend for our nation. How ironic that it was so close in date to both the Challenger disaster and the Apollo fire in 1967. And I remember THAT sad day, too.

Still working on the riddle. :)

Good Morning all! :) I know this one, Bernie, pm sent.

"7" seems to have been the unlucky number this weekend. 7 brave astronauts gone and also 7 high school students lost in an avalanche in BC. All set out with such excitement. So very tragic in the end. :(

Hope your kitty will be okay Mickey!

Welcome back DblD!

Have a good Monday everyone! :)

Well I'm on the slow end this morning - payroll day and people have been treating me like I should be working or something!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

Well in regard to the Columbia tragedy - I had just gotten up and had turned on the Morning Show and they broke in with a special report - honestly, all I could think of was something happened either with, in or in regard to Irag....when he announced that NASA was stating that communication had been lost - my mind went numb. Then we flipped right away to CNN and they were showing the video of the shuttle coming over the Texas area and all I could think of was those poor people waiting at the landing strip....that's all I could think.

I had painting to get done but we had the TV on Fox News all day long and when we weren't home we had it on the radio. And basically had it off and on all day yesterday. I agree that the nation as a whole has now gotten to the point where it knows how to deal with tragedy....I was clearly shocked seeing the President talk and the tears that welled up in his eyes....talk about stress......

But today is a new day - with new hopes - new horizons - and my bathroom is done!!!!!! Hope everyone has a great day and a great week.....I would have liked to have had today off - I'M TIRED!!!!! Must be the fog....

Okay - on to the figuring of the riddle which I think I have....gotta ponder just a tad more and then I'll PM you soon Bernie......

Catching up with everyone...

DblD - Nice to see you back home again. We always miss you when you're travelling. :)

TX - I hope Kasie had a great day! If you've got any space cupcakes....;) Have fun at your conference!

Thelk4 - glad you had fun at PirateFest! :)

Boo'sMom - I'm pretty sure I recognize that parraot from the margaritaville brochure...;) And how nice that you'll help me keep up my flower-buying skills!!! You are a sweetie...

Diane - I hope the water didn't cause any damage!!! There have been a lot of reports around here about leaks into homes and buildings - we're above freezing for the first time in three weeks!! I hope you had a good time at TwinsFest! :)

I don't remember Sonny Fox....must be before my time...:teeth: I loved Jonny Quest! I thought that was the coolest show ever! Things would get very quiet in our house whenever it came on - 4 boys in the house! :) Come to think of it, where the heck were my parents???? ;)

I read somewhere that they fashioned Top Cat after Sgt. Bilko! I'm not sure I remember all of the characters, but the similarities are suppose to be numerous!

We alsways watched the Hanna-Barbera ones from then too - Magilla Gorilla, Atom Ant, Snagglepus, Quick Draw McGraw, Deputy Dawg (maybe DD wasn't HB though)

Do any of you remember Astro-Boy? It was a cartoon from Japan. Mid-60's, I think. We always watched that one too!

I'm quite sure that BERNARD was probably never called on Romper Room!!! I thik we may have been watching magic Toy Shop when Romper Room came on....I never saw it when I was a kid.

I remember Sky King!!! And the Lone Ranger, and the Cisco Kid. Remember when they'd televise the old Buck Rogers serials? man - those were great! The spaceships with the sparks flying out, obviously on strings??? LOL! :p

I saw a new version of Bozo (out of Chicago, I think) just recently. It is a VERY SCARY SHOW!!!! If Bozo was like that when I was young, I'm sure I would have been terrified too! I don't remember Oopsy???

Kitty!!!! Did you consider calling him Manfred??? :p :p

CRB - Sounds like a nice visit. Watching a happy baby is one "chore" I could do for hours. :)

I met the good captain at our local zoo when it reopened after extensive remodeling. That must have been in 1988 or so. They taped a number of segments there. My son and I stood in line, in the pouring rain to meet him. I was, quite literally, overcome with emotion. I remember so much from that show. The ping pong balls certainly stand out. Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose. And Mr. Green Jeans seemed like such a cool guy. :) Simpler times, that's for sure.

I'm glad now that we rode CoP when we could. A really classic attraction. I don't know if I'm just getting to be an old fogie (and I don't think I am because I enjoy the new attractions too) but I think that Disney should find a way to keep some of these classics going. And not isolated in a separate park, but as part of the total experience.

Baboo - mountain avalanches are so very dangerous and deadly. I know that most ski areas spend a significant amount of time and money trying to control them. Quite a few blast artillery shells of some sort into the danger areas. I suppose thought that nature will have its way. Sad about those kids though. :(

Gina - I know how much the towers mean to you and I can certainly see where you are coming from. I don;t think it's an attempt to get things back the way they were - that will likely never happen - but it cerainly does say a lot about dealing with the world without fear.

Sis - I see what you're saying. Space exploration is, at least for me, a wonderous thing. Something to be marvelled at. And I think the risks there are much higher than most "traditional" jobs. I say most, because I know there are some very hazerdous occupations. The space program is also run by a national institution, so the profile is very, very high. But I see what you are saying. There are probably hundreds of accidents across the country each day and in each, dozens of families are left without a loved oned. As LTM said before - it gives us all pause to consider where we are in our lives. :)

One thing I've alkways enjoyed about the riddle is that it seems to be a kind bunch who post here and willing to let everyone have their way and their say. :)

Well - this post is probably HUGE!

See what happens when work gets in the way? :p

ENJOY the day everyone. :)
