How do you keep your treats from going hard after they have cooled? I have tasted others that theirs are still soft and gooey even when cooled. I cannot eat mine without putting them in the microwave first.

Thanks!

I find using the name brand marshmallows and Rice Krispies the best way to go. I've tried using generic products and had little to no success.

I THINK you might have to use less butter and more marshmallow. Butter tends to crunch/crisp up. DH likes his hard and actually puts them in the fridge after making them. I think he's a lunatic! warm and gooey all the way.

Use a little less cereal so they are gooey. If you over do the cereal and have heaping cups I find they get hard.

I actually have some in the fridge now! I use 6 cups of cereal, the whole bag of marshmallows and 1 stick of butter. then put them in the fridge. they stay great for a few days at least.

Well, crap. Guess I'm making rice krispie treats now.

mine stay nice and soft (but hardly last any time at all before the kids eat them!) I normally use more marshmallow/butter and less cereal than the recipe calls for, and I add a few pours of vanilla as well.

I don't use marshmallows when I make mine I use Fluff. I have made them for a bunch of Animal shelter bake sales and people always want the recipe? I don't even really like rice krispie treats, but my husband loves them!

Please share the recipe, how much Fluff to how many cups Rice Krispies?

Awhile back I had read that if you overheated the marshmallows, they will cool as hard as a rock..since then I have been very careful when melting the marshmallows..take off the heat before they are all completely melted and kept stirring until they are all melted..then proceed..have not had a hard batch of treats since.

I also found that store-brand marshmallows have the tendency to get very hard after they cool down. Don't know why, but that was my experience.
I use a bag of Kraft marshmallows, 6 cups of rice krispys, and a whole stick of REAL butter, and they come out perfect every time.

I've found that marshmallow treats don't get cool. They are eaten immediately after spreading them out. They can also be eaten directly from the melting/mixing pot.

Interestingly, I heard the other day that some people cut the treat into small squares after spreading it out. They then only eat one or two squares at a time. Nutjobs.

Marshmellows also tend to get stale and don't melt or taste as good then. I only use the name brand and I use the whole bag which is more than the number or marshmellows called for in the recipe and mine are nice and soft when done.

Who are those people? Are they the same ones that eat Halloween candy for six months?

I think we must have the same household! :rotfl:

We keep ours in an airtight container. We've used name brand and generic and have never had hard Krispies.

ITA! It's the same with fudge or any other "sugar" you cook. Another example are the haystacks made with peanut butter, cocoa and oatmeal - the temp has to be perfect so they will set.

Guess I'm making rice krispie treats tonight too!

I do the same thing -- a whole stick of butter instead of the 4 tsp that the recipe calls for. They always come out gooeyier (real word?) than when my kids make them according to the recipe.

I agree. Either the butter, or the marshmallows are overcooked. I've made that mistake a few times.
