hello looking for a rice cooker for my college daughter. She lives on campus. I bought her an air fryer and she loves it. She didn’t know how to cook so the air fryer saved her life because it’s so easy to use. She does meal prep and has been using the small 1-2 serving packages of 4-6 in a box of jasmine rice . You can boil the oil bag or microwave it. I figure a rice cooker would come in handy . Any recommendations, tip, advice or great deals on these?

Any favorite recipes you have tried? Has anyone successfully made Mexican rice in it? Will jasmine rice turn out good in it? How about brown rice? Tia!

I don't know if they still make it, but years back I got a small wolfgang puck rice cooker through qvc. It's great because the most you can make in it is 1 1/2 cups which is plenty for 3-4 people probably. I like it because I can use it for just myself and it's much smaller than most rice cookers that make a ton.

I've only ever done jasmine rice and it always comes out well.

My daughter uses the Minute Rice individual serving size cups of rice. You get 2 in a package, she prefers either the Brown Rice or the Jasmine Rice. It microwaves really quickly and they really do taste great Might be easier than finding a place to keep a rice cooker in a college room/apartment.

My son uses his all the time but it is rather large ...in an apartment that’s easy, but a dorm where space is a premium... I too think buying the pre packaged ones ( brown, white, jasmine) are delicious, one size servings and easy in the micro.
If ur set on the actual rice cooker...I originally purchased mine on Qvc also.
Happy shopping!

If you want a good one, get a Zojirushi. A Japanese company that makes quality rice cookers. Should last for years and make perfect rice. They are not cheap though.
I have one, great for our family of 7, one kid with celiac, but I think overkill for a college student. I still have a microwave rice cooker/veggie steamer that I bought over 20 years ago, dd17 just used it today to make stove top stuffing for Friendsgiving. It’s a plastic pot with a vented clip on lid.

Looking for a smaller one. She does meal prepping on sunday nights . She likes to change tins up but on weeks that she makes rice it would be for 2-3 days for the week

can anything else be cooke din the rice cooker?

A small Instant Pot might be more versatile than a rice cooker, I make brown rice in mine all the time, it takes about 30 minutes and turns out perfect. She could make other things in it as well.

Agreed! I’ve had my Zojrushi rice cooker for years. It makes perfect rice every time. You can make other things in it as well, you just program it for what you are cooking. Two cups of jasmine rice takes 40 minutes. It cost around $100.

We have a Zojirushi and love it. It plays a tune when it's done, so that totally makes it worth it. Ha Ha.
Check out William Sonoma for a Black Friday deal.
