These pictures are all from the @DisneyProjects twitter account and all rights go to them for these but I just wanted to show everyone that RFID scanners appear to have been installed around the MK. They are saying they have been installed at Splash, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, PhilharMagic, Jungle Cruise, and Huanted Mansion.

~Thanks for sharing! It's really exciting to see how all of this comes together! We've been talking about it and speculating for so long, it's so nice to see the first signs of xPass, in MK!. I bet this will be ready by the time Fantasyland opens. :goodvibes

Ah good point I bet that is what they are going for hopefully. All I know is I wont be back until November 2013 and I am excited to see just how much new stuff there is going to be in the World by then!

I guess that I'm :upsidedow or out of touch, but what are those used for?

It will be a new revenue stream for Disney where you pay them to reserve a time to visit a ride...just like reserving your TS meals 6 months in advance.

Tomorrow's announcement? I haven't been on the Dis much today, what announcement?:upsidedow

This week is Disneys summer to remember media event with an announcement to come tomorrow.

"Disney’s annual “What’s New, What’s Next” media presentation will be held Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET, covering exciting topics for upcoming and ongoing projects such as New Fantasyland progress, the recently-begun Test Track update, Phineas & Ferb’s Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure at Epcot, and the Splitsville bowling alley and restaurant coming to Downtown Disney. Other topics to be featured in the presentation include the Richard Petty Exotic Driving Experience, Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Adventures by Disney and Aulani, Disney Cruise Line, Run Disney, Disneyland Resort, and Disney Parks Merchandise.

There are sure to be others, as Disney usually saves a few surprises for these presentations each year. So be sure to follow along with us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest updates. "

Several twitter feeds were out and about the parks today for the behind the walls look at FLE as well as the sneak peak tour of the new art of animation resort.

As part of Disney's "Next Gen" system, RFID wristbands will replace KTTW cards. And you'll presumably be able to reserve some of your ride times in advance, step up to one of those machines and wave your wristband in front of it instead of having a physical FP.

Eventually the resorts will move to RFID room locks, with some reports that AoA is the first to have them.

Just some clarification..

The thing pictures at Screamscape appears to be a distribution unit - as in, that's where you'd get your "Fastpass" or whatever the new re-admit is going to be called. It's bigger and has a screen for the apparent purpose of selecting return times.

These smaller units at the individual rides are entry units - they appear to be used for scanning one's RFID wristband/ticket. Assuming it's valid for entry at the right time, it lights up and you're admitted into the "Fastpass" (or whatever it will be called) queue.

So it's essentially like FP as we know it but without the little paper tickets so far. It's a matter of how much more complicated they make it.

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

I doubt that, but I follow @************** on twitter as he is definitely in on all of these events this week and tweeting live updates as they come in. He was taking a tour behind the construction walls today tweeting live, as well as at the art of animation tour tweeting live with photos so you can assume he will be there tomorrow tweeting info as he hears it live.

You have to be careful though - along with the news you also have to endure what they ate for dinner :P

If these are for ride reservation times in advance, I'm just way not organized enough to do this. I can barely plan on where I want to be (and where to eat) 180 days out--much less where to eat, when to eat, which ride to ride, and when I'm going to want to ride it.

If it's just to replace paper Fast Passes, then great!

(I really don't want to be one of those people who hate any change...really, I don't.)

I absolutely agree with you. And I'm a planner. But I really don't like the idea that EVERY second of my time at my favorite place has to be planned six months in advance.
On top of that, we just went to Great Wolf Lodge a few weeks ago. They have RFID locks on their doors, and it was a HUGE pain in the butt.
