RF or FF carseat on plane?

It sort of bothers me when a FA tells someone that they have to move their child's carseat because someone else can't recline. I truly feel sorry for the person, but why should my child's safety be compromised for someone else's 3 inches? If I didn't pay for the seat that's one thing, but if the people who were told this did pay for their seats then I would be upset. If it's really an issue, I would ask the FA to move me and the carseat to a bulkhead row so that it's not affecting anyone's ability to recline.

We we used our car seat when DS was under 1 years old, we always used it forward facing as a courtesy to the person in front of us.

I am all for courtesy but for our family safety comes before courtesy or convenience. Our infant carseat could only be installed rear facing so front facing wasn't even an option with that seat.

bracy- thanks for the 5 step test I printed it out for future reference.

You're right, that's very disturbing. It's both a safety issue and a comfort issue for the child - why should someone else's comfort trump the comfort *and* safety of a child in a seat the parent paid for?

Same with us till my daughter was 10 months old. We flew with her Graco Snugride until that point so no way it could be installed forward facing safely.
